About this property

Romantic Private Lake Como Cottage with breathtaking 180-degree lake view

This romantic stand-alone cottage offers stunning views and a private garden, ideal for rest and relaxation.

PROPERTY:
The first floor, with stone tile flooring and exposed wood beams, has a living area with a cushioned bench, a full kitchen, and a large terrace.
An outdoor table can be set up on the terrace for al-fresco dining.

The second floor has hardwood flooring, a slanted wood-beamed cathedral ceiling, and a large French window opening onto a cute little terrace.
There is one bedroom with an Italian "matrimoniale" bed (in between queen and king size, 163 cm/64"), and a bathroom with a bidet and shower.

PARKING:
There is no private parking at the property, but the little town has plenty of free public parking throughout. Depending on the time of day you may find one very close to the house, or a short walk away, at most a few hundred yards.
It has never been an issue for our guests.

FOOD/DINING:
This is a self-catering property - you will need to bring your own provisions or eat out.

Brienno is a very small town - it only has one great pizzeria and one upscale restaurant. However, in the town next door, Argegno, there is a lovely bakery, a small fruit/vegetable store, and a small grocery store.
For supermarkets, we recommend the Bennet supermarket in Como, or a good mid-sized supermarket in Lenno, both about 15 minutes away.
Mon-Thurs 7.30 am to 9 am there is a food truck with bread, cheeses, cold cuts, etc.

We have compiled a thorough list of many restaurant recommendations in the area, which you will receive upon booking.

GETTING HERE:
The Milan airports are both 40 min away.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND RENTING A CAR because public transportation options are few and far between. No Uber or taxis. There are limited dining and grocery options within walking distance.

WHAT TO DO:
- Ideal a starting point for visiting the entire Lake region, with dozens of pretty towns.
- It is very close to Laglio (George Clooney's Villa) and to Cernobbio, with their fine restaurants.
- Boat-tours stop at the world-famous villas and their botanical gardens.
- Day trips to Como and Milan with their art and culture, restaurants, and shopping (designer outlets, silk scarves, and ties) are a must.

Ideal for a couple

Lovely stay in Brienno
W really enjoyed our stay in this property! Lilia and Carmen have a lovely flat situated above the town of Brienno, about half an hours drive along the west side of the lake from Como. The village itself is quiet and compact, easy to enjoy a walk to the lake or pizza at the nearby restaurant. We thought it was a good jumping-off point for exploring the hills and villages onward to Bellagio, with many good restaurants and parks along the routes and good roads connecting them. The flat is clean and warm, with marvelous views along the lake especially at sunrise and sunset. It was very comfortable for two, with a well-equipped kitchen and upstairs bedroom. The heat and hot water was exceptionally good given the cold January nights. We didn't have any issues with parking, and the village stairs up to the apartment were wide and well lit. We appreciated all of the guidance which the hosts provided, and their availability to answer questions prior to our arrival. The flat was very reasonably priced for the unique ambiance, and we enjoyed the chance to be a part of the village life in a beautiful part of Italy. Many thanks for your hospitality!

Highly Recommend
Beautiful cottage with the most wonderful views over Lake Como. Lovely accommodation with everything you could possibly need. The owner, Carmen, is only too happy to help you with any enquiries. Sit on the seat overlooking Lake Como and watch the early morning sun rise over the mountains! Watch the boats come and go across the lake. You can even take a ride on the boat ferry which leaves from the quaint little Brienno harbour and then return to Brienno after a wonderful day exploring the various villages and towns on the lake. A truly wonderful setting amongst medieval little streets and cobbled alleyways. Local restaurant has lovely dishes and lovely setting.

Excellent holiday
Overall, our 2 week stay at Chalet Lilia was excellent. Carmen went out of her way to help us after our late arrival, and this was very much appreciated. The chalet was very clean and matched it's description to a T. The 82 steps deserve a mention and are not for the faint hearted. Not having a designated parking place was a worry beforehand but this along with the steps proved not to be a problem for 2 relatively fit fifty somethings. The views from the chalet, and the lake and its surrounding quaint villages are stunning, best viewed on foot or from the water. We enjoyed Tremezzo, Varenna, Bellagio and Como itself. Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbinello are worth a visit, and a boat trip on the lake is a must. Day trips by train from Como to Milan and Bergamo were undertaken and enjoyed. This was fairly easy to organize and the prices very reasonable, with ALL trains clean, air conditioned and on time. We used the car to tour the lakeside and the surrounding mountainous areas - a coffee and stroll along the front at Porlezza, and the views of lake Lugano from Lanzo d'Intelvi were worth the effort. Downside - no village shop and the mozzies - but the mosquitoes have to be expected next to a lake. However, in saying this, the peace, tranquility, weather, views and friendly neighbours more than made up for any shortcomings. Diolch yn fawr (Molto grazie) Carmen!

Outstanding views, comfortable accommodation
It really is as good as it looks! After a two week stay with mixed weather we enjoyed lounging in shade in the garden, eating on the balcony and gazing at the ferries, sea planes, stars and the ever changing view. Lots to do nearby and Switzerland only a zip across an interesting hill road! Carmen was a delightful and most helpful host. Internet access most useful. Truly relaxing but renting a boat, swimming in the lake, exploring in the hills above Pigra the area offers endless possibilities and Chalet Lilia offers a most comfortable, thoughtfully designed base. We intend to return.

Hi, welcome to our beloved Chalet Lilia!
I am Lilia, the owner. I now live in Manhattan, but I was born and raised in beautiful , romantic Como.
I want you to know that cottage was a labor of love.
My Mom found the property while hiking on the Lake, and it was just a ruin, with the single most magnificent view she had ever seen.
My Dad and I, an couple of years later, designed every inch of a dream cottage we had in mind. Within a year, it was built. We followed the process day and night throughout. For several years we spent week-ends and holidays there. I actually lived there full time for one full year in 2003. Then I married a handsome Canadian man, and I moved to America; my beloved Dad passed away, and my Mom continues to keep the cottage alive by sharing it with visitors from all over the world.

Why they chose this property

You will love every minute of your vacation here. Very few other places offer you a stand-alone mini-villa, perfect for a couple, not within a larger complex or apartment building. It was conceived to be used as our own holiday home, not a rental property - we put love and care into every little detail.
The spectacular views speak for themselves - you will never want to leave.
It is a perfect starting point or base for hikes, shopping trips, and many many unforgettable adventures on the lake

What makes this property unique

The views are by far the best asset of this little gem.
The garden is priceless.
Being able to sip you morning coffee of read a book on one of the two terraces is priceless.
If you are into cooking, you have a full kitchen at your disposal.
