About Sheena Smith

Alan and I are retired general medical practitioners. We live in Scotland and have been enjoying family holidays in Menorca since 1973.

Sheena Smith purchased this villa in 1980

Why Sheena Smith chose Alaior

On our first visit to the island we simply fell in love with its peace and tranquility and enquired about purchasing a plot on which to build. That villa - Villa Arran - was not completed until 1980 but within a few years we wanted the pleasure af a swimming pool and so purchased the adjacent property which had ground attached and would allow us to build another villa with a pool situated centrally. This provided an opportunity for many happy family holidays and many friendships have been made as a result. In recent years, however, holiday makers prefer their own private swimming pools and so since 2006, to meet this need, the villas have been separated and a heated pool built in each.

What makes this villa unique

By booking our villas, families wishing to holiday together, can have their own villa with a pool and privacy but still be near to their friends.

Coast/Beach:

Cala 'n Porter has a very pleasant sandy beach and paved promenade on which are cafes providing snacks and cold drinks. It is within walking distance but takes a little longer on the return journey as it is uphill. For those who prefer to take their car there is plenty of parking space at the beach.

Travel:

The villas are about 15 mins from Mahon airport, the only airport on the island. Car hire is readily available but is not essential as there are always plenty of taxis available to meet incoming flights, cost about 20 Euros. There is a regular bus service from Cala'n Porter to the town of Mahon itself.

Distances:

The 2 largest towns on the island are Mahon, the capitol, which is about 10km away and Cuitadella the previous capitol at the opposite end of the island. Both have cathedrals of interest, theatres, and museums. They have many pleasant shops, cafes and restaurants and the waterfront at Mahon where there are many yachts and ferries is always interesting.

Further Details:

Menorca has been designated a site of environmental interest by the EU and so there are many bird sanctuaries, wild flowers and archeological sited to visit. The highest point in the island is Monte Torro. From the town of Mercadal a road leads all the way to the top where there is a small place of worship where services are held regularly. Several resorts offer water sports and inland there are horse riding facilities and a small zoo.
