Pech Luna is a small village 1000 ft up into the rolling hills of the Languedoc-Roussillon in South West France. It has a church, a Mairie, and very little else beyond an air of calm and tranquillity. 1½km away, a 15 minute walk, is Le Domaine de Loustalviel, a cluster of sensitively renovated farm buildings, set in three hectares of tree-shaded gardens and meadows that slope down to the tiny brook at the border of our land. Apart from the large heated pool (with safety fence), there are many hidden corners of calm. And, for the more energetic, there's a ‘football pitch’, a piste de boules and a swing. The Domaine is surrounded by ancient towns and churches, vineyards and prehistoric caves; it's within easy reach of golf, sailing, windsurfing, cycling, and horse riding, 20 minutes from the Canal du Midi and just over an hour from the Mediterranean beaches or some spectacular walking (and skiing) in the Pyrenees. Loustal Beau is the prettiest house on the Domaine, with the most spectacular views. It's perfectly sized for four, with a huge private lawned garden - and it's just steps away from the pool area. Before the renovation, it was a disused barn with the tall archway on the south façade which is so typical of the region. This arch has been preserved and double-glazed, to show off the spectacular views of the Pyrenees to both the galleried bedroom floor and the double height ground floor. The ground floor has a separate wc off the airy 11x6m open-plan sitting, dining and kitchen area with a woodburning stove for winter evenings. This has french doors to a shaded BBQ and outside dining area, which in turn leads to nearly a half acre of secluded lawns and gardens - with, as always on the Domaine, spectacular views of the mountains. The first floor has two bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. One bedroom has a king size bed, and the other has twin beds.

As good as it looks :)

We spent an amazing October half term in this beautiful property which really is as good as it looks. The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly and that set the tone for the rest of our break. The property was spotlessly clean and, despite it being the end of the season, it was in extraordinarily good order. If you are looking for peace and quiet with stunning views then don't put this on your short-list just get it booked before someone else does!! Thank you Nigel and Julian for your impeccable five-star service

Delightfully Restful and Rejuvenating

My partner and I are a well travelled mature couple and consider ourselves fairly knowledgeable, but not in anyway jaded, on the matter of what is "Good" and what "Isn't"... concerning holiday accommodation.

Hosts, Julian and Nigel, Le Domaine de Loustalviel and, in particular, "Loustelbeau"...constitute all that is best in personal hospitality..that highly desired, but not often achieved, mix of characterful ease and great style...but not missing all the essentials.

Superb, sympathetically restored, period French country property with magnificent and ever changing pastoral and mountain views..hosts with the right amount of forethought in providing necessary and useful information..an unexpectedly wonderful location..facilities..AS described!

Given that the property, and area, ticked the required boxes..the icing on the cake was the wonderfully well judged presence of our gracious and obliging hosts...5 Star in an often 3 Star world!

Mary, Dana and I wish Julian, Nigel and this venture great good fortune for the future and..."Bon Chance"!

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The Mediterranean beaches are just over an hour's drive away.

There is a Wildlife park 15 minutes drive away, with a wide selection of animals to view.

Travel:

Toulouse airport (BA, Easyjet, FlyBe, Jet2, etc) is under an hour's drive. Carcassonne airport (Ryanair) is about 40 mins' drive. Some of our guests chose to fly in via Montpelier, Perpignan or Girona. Most people who drive do the journey from Calais in about 10 hours actual driving time.

Distances:

The nearest village with shops is Belpech. It's about an 8 min drive and has two (first class) bakers, a brilliant butcher, a mini-supermarket, a pharmacy, 2 banks and all essentials. There are 4 extremely good hypermarkets and excellent shopping in the nearby market towns of Pamiers, Castelnaudary and Mirepoix (all within 20 - 25 mins drive).

Changeover Day:
During July and August, changeover is only on Saturdays, and there is a 7-day minimum stay. At other times, we can be very flexible, and encourage mid-week changeovers to save you the cost of week-end airfares.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: All houses offer a fully equipped modern kitchens with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, sink, electric oven, gas or electric hob and washing machine. Each has DVD, satellite TV flat screen, internet, its own garden and shaded outdoor dining/barbecue area. A sensitive blend of modern furniture for function and comfort, with hand-picked traditional Languedoc, Cathar and Catalan pieces to add style and atmosphere. Traditional pale terracotta ceramic flooring throughout. Central heating throughout and a wood-burning stove for the cooler months (LoustalBeau only). Cots are available for babies (but please let us know in advance). We can also organise dinners and wine tastings on request. Please ask about special Christmas packages. Outside: Each house has its own secluded, shaded outside dining and barbecue area and a safe private lawned garden. There are 7 acres of meadows and lawns - large enough to ensure that everyone can find their ‘own’ secret corners. To keep you entertained when you're not out visiting the many vineyards, restaurants and medieval villages, town and cities around us, you'll also find a swing ball, a ‘football pitch’, a basket-ball hoop and a piste de boules. Younger guests tend to love the walk through the meadows for a picnic in the clearing by the tiny stream at the border of of our land. The heated swimming pool is 12m long, and we make very sure that it's always sparkling clean and inviting (and, just in case it's a bit too inviting for the under-fives, it's fully safety-fenced to French-government standards).
