About Emma Hill

We are a family of five (children aged five, seven and nine years) who love the outdoor way of life and this was the main reason for buying our apartment in Zell as there is scope for lots of adventure right on the doorstep. Our children have enjoyed learning to ski on the Schmitten in the winter, the boys think that the ice hockey games between the Zell am See Polar Bears and national rivals are fantastic. After a days skiing the fun pool across the road from the apartment is a fun place to unwind with the children, they spend hours on the diving boards and the slides.

Summer is amazing and our family spends lots of time by the lake, swimming or cycling around on the tracks.

We hope that you will have as much fun as we do when staying in the apartment.

Emma Hill purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Emma Hill chose Zell am See

We have always dreamt about owning a property in the mountains and Zell has given us the opportunity of combining brilliant skiing in the winter as well as some great activities in the summer season. We discovered that Zell is an incredibly friendly place with an enormous amount to do for everybody, from swimming in the lake to paragliding over the mountains.

It is very easy to get to with three major airports only 2 hours away and a fantastic rail service that will bring you straight into the town from those airports.

We were delighted when we bought the apartment as it is in an excellent position in Zell and means that we have a very short walk to the ski lift and lake with the kids.

What makes this apartment unique

The property has lots of space and is very modern and light, with a balcony that looks out over the alps, making breakast an absolute pleasure as the sun streams into the apartment. It is a modern apartment that has been equiped to a very high standard which makes it a very comfortable apartment to stay in.

Since we have owned the apartment we have got a visitors book with nothing but positive comments and we pride ourselves in giving our guests a fantasic apartment from which to enjoy a great holiday. The apartment is very central and is a very short walk to all the best things that Zell has to offer, whilst also being very convenient for those people arriving by public transport

Guestbook comments from the manager

Apartment was fantastic and the skiing was great. Found that the 10 minute walk to the lift was fine. We really appreciate the help that you gave us regarding the public transport. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Neat and spacious, close to facilities.

  • 4 of 5

The domestic features were fine, once I had managed to refit the thermostat to one radiator to reduce the heat on a hot sunny day.

Unfortunately the satellite TV did not work, but it did mean we missed the final few days of the UK general election.

A few hidden sights which are not well publicised -

The church attached to Schloss Prielau just north of the Seepromenade is well worth a look.

Untersulzbach waterfall in the upper Salzach valley. It's a gentle walk from Sulzbachtaler halt or Neukirchen station on the Pinzgau local line from Zell am See. It's spectacular but without the tourist throng at Krimml. The facitites athe paths around the falls, a National park display and an Gastof halfway back to Sulzbachtaler halt

There are plenty of opportunities for low level / easy walks between stations on both OBB and Pinzgau lines. It does help to have detailed 1/50000 or 1/30000 maps ( we used KOMPASS maps) as some of the way marking is a bit sketchy between main locations.

The railway museum at Schwarts St Veit is well worth visiting for any railway rnthusiasts. (Opening times: beginning of May to beginning of October Wednesday-Saturday 1-5pm, Sunday & public holidays 10am-5pm July and August also Thursday 7-10pm ). It's a spectacular train ride from Zell.

Great property; slightly let down by minor details

  • 3 of 5

The property itself is in a magnificent situation and is well sized. We've visited before and found it perfect. This visit we did notice a few small issues though this wouldn't stop us returning.

The communications prior to arrival were limited, leaving questions unanswered. The agent didn't seem aware of our arrival though thankfully this didn't cause a problem. We had only one set of keys between three adults and the high chair was filthy as were the floors under beds (which we moved to make space for cots).

That said the apartment itself is in good condition and mostly well looked after. It was just a final few details that stopped it from being perfect.

Everything provided for a great holiday - especially as weather was so mixed! Apartment is in quieter part of town but only 5 minutes walk to restaurants. Could not fault this. Thanks!

Excellent, well appointed flat in a great centre.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed several times in this apartment and intend to book a return visit! The owner is always very friendly and helpful in her communications and her onsight representative, Craig, is super. He ensures that the flat is clean, uncluttered and welcoming and that everything works as it should. On arrival his welcome is warm, efficient and informative. We cannot speak too highly of him. Now to the apartment - it is comfortable and its facilities are excellent. Its position is ideal - opposite the leisure centre and swimming pool, five minutes to the town centre and to the lake. The neighbours are friendly and welcoming as is the whole town. Zell am See provides an excellent centre for reaching walks in the mountains and, if so desired, for trips to nearby attractive villages and world class centres such as Salzburg. We love it! Needless to say we would recommend the property.

Clean and well provided for a comfortable stay

  • 4 of 5

Agent was available on arrival by prior appointment made it easy for us to settle in. Car parking can be awkward if one has a large car and other cars are in adjacent spaces. It should be advised the side road from the court yard is one way and should only exit right. We did not realise that for three days.

The only reason why we did not give five stars is nothing to do with the apartment, but its location. The road outside is noisy. We live in the country and perhaps we are being unfair as we are not used to to the noise the traffic can make..

The town centre, and its shops and restaurants, is very easy to access and facilities were excellent. However, and nothing to do with the owners or the flat, the town is, currently, a very obvious example of the burgeoning immigration problem being expereinced in Austria at present.

However, the region is truly spectacular and with Zell am See as a centre many amazing day trips are easily available for those wishing to visit in the 'No skiing' season.

The apartment is 2 minutes walk from the the open air bathing area on the banks of the lake. There is a large pool with slides and other recreational facilities as well as the crystal clear waters of the lake.

Most people fly into Salzburg which is only 88km (56 miles) from Zell and only takes approximately 70 minutes by car. You can travel by train from Salzburg to Zell and the train leaves every hour. If you want to try out the vast amount of skiing in the area, car hire is recommended. If you want to relax in Zell am See you could catch a train or bus from Salzburg and walk to the apartment which is 15 minutes from the station.

The apartment is 5 minutes walk to the centre of Zell. The leisure centre is 1 minute walk away and the ski lift is only 400 metres away. The bathing area of the lake is 2 minutes walk away.
