About the property

Villa in Vlachata, Lourdas, Kefalonia, Greek Islands - A commanding hillside position, in a tranquil & relaxed setting.

‘Ionian View’ is a detached, single storey villa with its own private pool. The house has been fully inspected and approved by the Greek Tourism association and our EOT reference number is MHTE 0458K92000494901. Outside the property has a spacious terrace and barbecue area, also loungers around the small but perfectly formed pool. There is plenty of space for al fresco dining with the main terrace easily accessible form the kitchen/living room. Two bedrooms both have direct access onto the terrace. The larger twin bedroom offers an en suit shower/wet room and the other double bedroom has use of the main bathroom with full size bath and shower over. There is a sofa bed that can accommodate two further guests in the living area but the villa can be configured for sleeping in several ways to best suit your party. Apart from all the expected essentials, the kitchen also has a washing machine and a slimline dishwasher. Based on the outskirts of the village of Vlahata, the villa gives privacy and peace yet close to the local amenities. The nearby beaches of Trapezaki and Lourdas (which has an EU blue flag) are only 5 mins drive. The views that the villa commands are without a doubt amongst the best on the island from a private home, in front, stretching out across the Ionian Sea to the Island of Zante, to the rear the mountain of Enos and to the west the castle of St George, illuminated at night, to which you can look for stunning sunsets almost every evening. Situated approximately 20 mins from both Argostoli to the west and Scala to the east, Ionian view makes the perfect base for exploring all that Kefalonia has to offer. It's modern interior is both comfortable and family friendly and suited to parties of all ages.

About Naomi and Chris Blatchly

Chris and Naomi Blatchly live in the South West of England, in quite a rural area. They started going to Kefalonia in 2003 and have made some great friends. It didn't take them long to decide that it was a place they could spend a lot of time especially when they get older and when first setting eyes on the plot of land where Ionian View now stands, they were hooked. 'We had a great deal of involvement in the building process and now every time we visit, there is a great sense of home about it. We never tire of the feeling of excitement when getting off the plane at Argostloi airport, even the smell of the warm air makes us feel at ease. We now have a young family and find our home from home the perfect safe haven to enjoy with them & friends. We have had many happy times there already and hope to enjoy many more for years to come!

Naomi and Chris Blatchly purchased this villa in 2005

Why Naomi and Chris Blatchly chose Vlachata

We love the area around Vlahata for many reasons but mainly because of the feeling of living in a Greek community instead of being in a holiday resort. The villagers are very friendly and always very welcoming and tolerant of our guests. The villa has it's own private driveway and parking and the place itself is very private. Every time we arrive at Ionian View we go straight out on to the terrace and take in the view. It is always a heart stopping moment that never ceases to take my breath away, then every morning thereafter until we finally have to leave! Even the resort of Lourdas can only be called a resort in the loosest sense of the word, as you will never have a problem finding a place to sit on the beach even in peak season.

What makes this villa unique

The view has got to be the biggest plus of the villa as there really is no better from a private villa on the island. The very easy 25 min drive from the airport helps make the start to your holiday relaxed as well as the friendly and very reliable group of people we have on hand to maintain things & to be called on in any emergency.

The interior is comfortable and we have had some wonderful feedback about the facilities being beyond peoples expectations. It is far enough away from life to feel like you are on your own but near enough to all modern conveniences to get a perfect balance. A great base for sight seeing, eating, traditional life, walking and beaching. We are suited to guests with young children & teenagers, couples on their own both young & older and groups of friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just thought I would drop you a line to say what a fantastic holiday we had at Ionina View. The villa is gorgeous. We could not believe the view and spent so much time just sitting, watching the boats coming & going out at sea. We were sad to leave. Thank you so much for giving us the chance to stay in your lovely villa.

All the best,

Gail, Alan, Oxford. (July 2009, returning in 2010).

Just wanted to say thank you for letting us rent your lovely villa this year. We all had a super time and it definatly lived up to it's name with the beautiful views. It was also equipped with everything we could have needed for a perfect holiday. Fantastic villa - Fantastic holiday -we will hopefully be returning.

Diana, Portsmouth (June 2010).

The views make you want to sit on the Balcony all day! Well equiped & very comfortable. We have always used tour operators before but found Ionian View of the same standard & felt secure knowing there was local support available.

Magnificent Villa

  • 5 of 5

Ionian View certainly delivered, superbly maintained, spotlessly clean. The perfect destination, near to the beach and lots of lovely restaurants, we loved Lorraine's Magic Hill, and the Olive Lounge. Being on one level was perfect for us. It felt like a home from home. Naomi's communication was lovely, so kind and helpful. Angela the Villa Manager was on hand to deal quickly with a minor glitch. Very comforting. Kefalonia has stollen our hearts, wonderful people, and lots to see. Easy to drive to lots of wonderful places.Skala Poros Sami, all so beautiful, and an easy drive. No traffic jams here.Castle of St George, the cafe, The Castro, is splendid. So welcoming, and fantastic food, at great prices. So looking forward to returning next year. Thanks so much to Chris and Naomi for enabling this.

The villa has a great location with a fantastic view, the only thing it needs some maintanice.

  • 4 of 5

Hot water not on regular enough and had many cold showers in an evening, needs a good clean through with cob webs everywhere. Pool man came 3 times but did the minimum and also came unannounced, maid came but only changed bedding but didn't clean overall though we have had a good visit.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our property. During your stay, I'm sure you can appreciate there were several power cuts due to the bush fire situation. While these fires where no danger to the villa, the power cuts do play havoc with the hot water timer. A simple call to our villa manager would have sorted that for you, as it did with the guests that followed you but we are sorry you didn't mention it. Our information guide does state how often the pool man calls and when that is likely to be. As he enters through the garden early in the morning and is minimally intrusive, we feel there is no need to give guests a specific time as these may vary anyway. As his visits are regular and the pool is small, there isn't much for him to do so visits are brief. Our cleaner had reported to us that she had been unable to carry out her full duties during your stay as there seemed to be more guests than expected staying and at the times she came there simple wasn't enough room for her to work. She was concerned things had not been up to her usual standard but had to work within the parameters available. We do kindly ask guests to accommodate our cleaner where possible so she can do a thorough job but it can be difficult to work around people in a small villa. I'm sorry it wasn't possible to get everything right for you on this occasion especially as our maintenance team usually get such good feedback. (See other reviews)

A beautiful villa perfect for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

The villa is beautifully presented with perfect facilities for a family holiday in the sun. The living accomodation was of an extremely high standard. The views from the terrace were breathatking and the pool was the perfect size for our 3 children. Coupled with the excellent location we were really impressed with Ionian View, especially when compared to our previous experiences in similar sized villas around the Med.

Incredible view, classy villa

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't give this any less than 5* for many reasons.

The view is incredible and it is amazing to wake up to every morning and return to during the afternoon. It is a wonderful experience to throw open the bedroom and lounge doors and go out onto the massive balcony.

The villa is very well stocked with all that you will need and it is nicely furnished and set up to a very high standard.

The villa is south facing and after 9 is bathed in sunshine.

The air conditioning is efficient and quiet.

The pool is nice to plunge into for cooling down but is not of any use for adult swimming.

You must have a car at this villa. Vlachata is supermarket and restaurant free and the nearest are on the Lourdas road which is fine to walk to but stupidly steep to walk back from.

Argostoli is an easy 20 minute drive away (as is the airport) and there are numerous beaches within a 10-20 minute drive.

We wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Lovely villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved the villa, the view and Kefalonia.

Arriving late at night it was somewhat more of a challenge to find the villa, but looking out on the stunning view the next morning was really wonderful and we didn't get bored of it every day.

The villa is modern and well furnished and ideal for two to four, possibly more. It completely matches the advertised description, so if this villa has what you are looking for, you won't be disappointed.

Angela the property manager visited on the first day and gave us excellent tips for places to explore. We met the cleaner at the end of the holiday also really nice. The pool cleaner was round a few times during the week and just got on with it and was gone. On top of that Naomi the owner was simply a pleasure to deal with throughout booking and with additional information and help on where to book a hire car.

A car is a must, as you must explore the island, Kefalonia is green for a Greek island and the landscape is beautiful and varied across the island. Driving is easy and generally the locals are relatively polite drivers compared to back home. The roads are quite good, just bendy and rock strewn! in places.

The road continuing up from the villa soon turns to limestone gravel, but it's great as are the views as you get higher and then you descend into a verdant hidden valley with a monastery, get there when the old and new churches are open, the insides are jaw dropping. Visit the winery round the corner and get a free tour and tasting.

Spend time wandering around Argostolli, find a cake/coffee shop and enjoy. Walk along the waters edge of the promenade and throw bread to the fish. Oh did I forget TURTLES, I wasn't expecting resident Loggerhead Turtles in Argostolli, we saw them within five minutes of parking the car and had to make detours on several days to see them again, huge, graceful and beautiful. Take the 30 minute car ferry to Lixouri, it's a really cheap trip (something like 7-8 Euros for car and two people), find another cake shop!

Basically we went nearly everywhere, visiting towns, beaches and spectacular views. Didn't eat in the same place twice and loved the food everywhere. Greek food is great for vegetarians, just ask questions and you'll find there are more options than you thought on every menu.

Asos, Sami, Poros, Sami, Scala, Argostolli, Lixouri and numerous beaches, loved Kefalonia, and this villa was well positioned to explore it all from.

Nearest Airport
15 Kilometres
Nearest Beach
1.5 Kilometres

Both Lourdas and Trapazaki beaches are 1.5km from the villa or a 5 minute drive.

They consist of 3 bays ajoining to make up 3km of white sand and shingle.

There a few small family run restaurants/bars and a mini market along the beach, a public toilet and lifeguard on duty in high season at Lourdas. Sun beds and umbrellas are also available at local prices. They are beautiful beaches and never seems to be overcrowded, with good access by road, there are also lovely walks around this area.

Argostoli airport is 12km or 20 minutes by car and is an easy drive. Car hire is essential and can be arranged direct from the airport although local taxis will cost approx 25 euros to the villa and a car can be arranged from there.

The local mini market is 5 minutes walk.

Lourdas beach is 5 minutes drive.

Argastoli the capital is 20 minutes drive.

There many attractions on the Island, most within 45 minutes drive of Vlahata and the beautiful Myrtos beach and Venetian fort of Assos within 1 hour. You can be at the picturesque harbour of Fiskardo in 1 hour 20 minutes but it is well worth a look and the coast road provides stunning views along the way.

Further Details:

The main banking facilities and cash points are in the capital Argostoli. There is a wide selection of good, reasonably prices local restaurants, within 5-10 minutes drive from the villa. Being on the edge of a village we do have a couple of near neighbours but none of which hinder privicy in any way.

There is an extensive welcome pack in the villa giving all the information you need regarding supermarkets, where to go etc.
