Villa in Lagos, Western Algarve, Portugal - Tranquil Area Away From Main Roads On Hill Overlooking Meia Praia Beach

Ideal for families & golfers, our lovely villa called 'Amarela' has 4 bedrooms, 2 en-suite, the modern, wonderfully equipped and spacious kitchen opens out into the dining area and then into a beautifully furnished lounge, complete with free WiFi, flat screen satellite TV and PS2. The living area is surrounded by patio doors for a great pool and garden view, as well as easy access to outdoor life. 3 bedrooms open out onto a full length balcony overlooking the private pool. A small balcony overlooks the cobbled square; an added bonus is the roof terrace which has a view of the sea and hills beyond. The patios surrounding Amarela have been furnished for outdoor dining, an evening glass of wine as well as the classic BBQ. The gardens include an orange and lemon tree, a banana plant and a soft grass lawn ideal for children to play on. The villa is decorated and furnished to the highest standard, with hand-painted pictures throughout the bedrooms and living area. TheWifi TV means you get to watch the channels and listen to your radio stations from home as well as connect your devices to stay in touch with the outside world, if you want to. The pool in the garden comes with it the inflatable beds and rings to chill out on and at night time, you can switch the pool lights on to enjoy a relaxing night on the patio with the atmosphere to boot.

You can enjoy a walk down to the Marina where you will find great places to drink, eat and watch the world go by. From there, it's just a short hop over the foot bridge into the old town of Lagos with its cobbled streets and Roman walls -

still more eateries, shops and things to do.

Amarela is definitely a place to enjoy living and relaxing in.

Our beautiful villa is owned by 2 families; friends since childhood, based in North West England. I'm Jenny and have Ronnie & Mary aged 7 and 5. Cath & Phil have Francesca & Will aged 15 and 13. They are growing up absolutely loving their annual holidays back at Amarela, getting to catch up with the friends and beach restaurant owners we've got to know over the years and taste some amazing fresh, local dishes they wouldn't get at home. The fact both families go back each year, at least once is testament to the love of the place and enjoyment we get from the villa and region. I love travelling into the mountains around Monchique, eating some of the local pork dishes, tasting the local, amazing wine up there. Cath, Phil and children love visiting all the different beaches and water parks. Phil comes every year without fail for a lads golfing trip. March & April as well as October/November are very under-rated months to visit this region; it's a lovely temperature and seeing the different seasons coming into effect is a joy.

Why Jenny Draper chose Albardeira

Phil and Cath had been travelling to Lagos for years and I'd never been before. I'd wanted to invest in a holiday home, as did Phil and Cath, so when I headed out to Lagos, realised how friendly the community was, the type of warm, decent tourists the place attracted, the great food culture at great prices - and not forgetting the number of beautiful towns, villages and variety of beaches along the Algarve coast, I was hooked. It reminded me of Spain from years and years ago with all its charm.

Our villa was a new build when we bought it and it's on a lovely residential 'close' with 69 villas, overlooking the fields and other lovely villas. It's very peaceful and safe and we have such friendly neighbours. It's also so easy to get from Faro airport, in about 45 minutes which makes it hassle free.

What makes this villa unique

First things first, I drop my suitcase and head straight to the supermarket, Pingo's 3 minutes drive away to stock up on provisions. The fact it's so close is wonderful so once we've stocked up, I can then get my swimming gear on and relax with some lunch, a drink & my book by the pool.

The fact we've got wifi TV and radio means I don't have to miss out on any shows I'm watching at the time, or a bit of Radio 2, Classic FM or Heart for some good music whilst on holiday.

We have excellent maid, pool cleaning & gardening services for the villa so it really does feel like a proper break. It really is a villa which fills with sunshine and feels like a total break from the real world.

Restaurants & bars are only 10 mins walk away when you want to head out & about, so there's the best of both worlds on your doorstep.

Notes on accommodation: An ideal villa for children. Walled and gate access only. All gates are lockable. Amarela also has a safe to store your valuables and is alarmed with a simple key fob device for your safety and peace of mind. The pool is cleaned every day. The gardener comes once a week. The property manager is local so any problems can be resolved quickly. There is a supermarket located 2 minutes drive from Amarela. Pingo Doce has free car parking and will cater for all your needs, including food, alcohol, toiletries and BBQ charcoals. Outside: The pool is approx 10m x 4m in size. There are very comfortable sun-loungers with parasols and side tables around the large patio area for you to enjoy lazy days by the pool. The garden area is lovely and green with lots of different types of plants and young trees, including an orange and lemon tree. The long soft lawn is ideal for children. The built-in BBQ will help you decide to 'eat-in' some evenings. The separate balconies and patio areas with their own tables and chairs are also ideal if you want some time to yourself. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided at the start of your stay together with a welcome pack of tea, milk, bread, hams, cheeses. On a 2 week stay there will be a mid-week clean and towel/linen change at the mid-point of the stay by our lovely English neighbours.

A lovely villa

We rented this villa for a holiday with our two daughters, their partners and our young grandson and we had a great time. We loved the location, in a quiet area on a hill just outside Lagos town. We drove from Faro but one of our daughters chose to take the train and they really enjoyed the journey; the track runs along the side of Meia Praia beach ending at Lagos Marina. From there it is a 15 minute walk up the hill to the villa. It is a steep hill and the walk down is faster!

The villa is very nicely presented and well equipped for 8 people with a good sized pool (heated by solar panels) ........and the satellite TV with DVD player was very useful for our grandson! We really appreciated the welcome pack of provisions and the pile of beach towels left for our use.

Although we had a car we chose to walk locally, into Lagos town via the marina or to the nearby Meia Praia beach (6Km of lovely sand). However, the car was very useful for visits to the Pingo supermarket a few minutes drive away and for trips further afield.

The owners were very good at answering our questions and providing information prior to our visit, and there were well organised folders of information in the villa when we arrived.

We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings.

Special interest holidays:

For young visitors there are various water parks with exciting rides for all ages; a zoo in Lagos and a marine zoo that offers the opportunity to swim with dolphins.


This beautifully furnished villa is in a perfect location to be able to enjoy all of the local delights; fish restaurants, cafes and bars whilst being a haven of peace away from any busy roads. Only 3 mins by car are the beaches of Praia De Ana and Praia De Mos, with the villages of Praia de Luz and Salema being only 10 minutes away by car.


The best airport to fly into is Faro. Direct flights to Faro are from most UK airports. Routes are always being updated and many of the routes are operated by low-cost airlines (EasyJet, BMI Baby, Flybe, Monarch etc). Amarela is approximately 70 miles/1 hour from Faro Airport. It is a very straightforward journey along the A2 motorway exit junction 1 or 2 into Lagos. We recommend booking a car though Carjet for the best deal from Faro airport, or check out the airport website.


Lagos marina is no more than 1km from Amarela. Lagos town is 1.5km. It's a 15 minute walk, a very short drive (especially if you part at the back of the Marina). It's great to walk down in the evening and take a cheap taxi back to the villa at the end of the night. Local beaches and beautiful villages span the local area. We have maps in the villa with recommendations for beaches, restaurants and interesting places to go.
