An absolute gem!

  • 5 of 5

To experience the real Spain in wonderful surroundings, El Rancho is absolutely perfect. The accommodation is spacious, clean and extremely quiet and the hosts, Jacque and Garret, are just wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and they go out of their way make sure everyone has a fantastic holiday. They, together with Norma and Malcolm, were able to give us so many tips on places to visit (thanks Norma for all the maps and brochures!), restaurants to eat in and were always around for a lovely chat. We would highly recommend El Rancho to friends and family and hope it won't be too long before we return to see some more of this wonderful part of Spain.

Fantastic El Rancho

  • 5 of 5

Had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at El Rancho. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were made to feel very welcome by the owners Garret and Jackie, they really could not do enough for you. the villa we stayed in was fantastic with a lovely roof terrace somewhere to go and hide away or enjoy the views whilst having your breakfast. Cleanliness was second to none and the villa had a lovely homely feel and was very well equipped. Lovely horses for the equestrian people to enjoy. We will be returning very soon. Thank you for a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

Another amazing stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd visit and was made extra special as this time we ha our 6 month old little boy. Jaqcue made it so easy for us and arrange for everything we needed to be there when we arrived.

We absolutely LOVE this place and Jaqcue and Garret are such wonderful hosts, it's like home from home and is so relaxing and beautiful. Everything is of such a high standard and you will not want to leave!

It's a great base for exploring too and if you love horse riding you can take a wonder through the olive groves in the mountains.

I can not recommend it highly enough and can not wait to return! Thank you so much for everything El Rancho and see you again soon!

A small piece of paradise in Andalucia

  • 5 of 5

This is the first time I have attempted to write a review in detail on a holiday destination so I apologise in advance if it is a bit over the top and wordy.I have just returned from my eighth visit to El Rancho and felt it is about time I put down in writing what a fantastic holiday destination it is. It makes a perfect change from a coastal holiday and if you do fancy a day on the beach you can be there in a no time if you hire a car which is very inexpensive in Spain

I first visited El Rancho in 2010 as a present from my wife for my 50th Birthday. I wanted to do the historical tour visit Cordoba, Granada and Ronda as well as learn to ride again something I had not done for over 25 years. I achieved all my goals and so much more. The visits to Granada, Cordoba and Ronda far exceeded my expectations and now some years later I am now riding again regularly.

El Rancho as a location far exceeded all our expectations, we had one of the warmest welcomes we have ever had on a holiday, nothing was too much trouble and the setting is just perfect.

Jacquie had me riding Orlanda, a Belgium warm blood in no time an absolutely perfect horse to restart on, she is well schooled, good natured and just inspires confidence as does Jacquie who provides simple and clear instruction.

The accommodation is to an extremely high standard but what really sets El Rancho apart is the amazing swimming pool and landscaped outside areas and beautiful terraces. There are plenty of places to lounge around in comfort taking in the Panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, with places to hide away and read a book or listen to you music whilst basking in the sunshine or absorbing the tranquillity in the shade. The hot tub is a great place to relax in the evening and unlike many places the pool is big enough to have a proper swim.

If you enjoy walking then there are some incredible walks in the mountains on your doorstep.

El Rancho has something for everyone from quiet tranquillity to a vibrant party atmosphere if that is what you want. Jacquie and Garret have a real skill at reading their guests figuring out what they want and then delivering a perfect holiday to meet their needs. You are renting far more than accommodation when you book at El Rancho as Jacquie and Garret are on hand to ensure that you have the perfect holiday whatever that may be for you.

I am about to book again to go back this September, I hope this says it all !!!!

Ideal place for riding and relax

  • 5 of 5

I first visited El Rancho in August 2013 with my partner, looking for a place to ride and also relax. I found El Rancho on the internet whilst looking for a place to ride in Southern Spain but also where my partner, who doesn't ride, could have a nice relaxing time by the pool. El Rancho turned out to be the perfect place for both, riders and non-riders.

Garret and Jacque are delightful and really welcoming and they really go the extra mile to make guests comfortable. All the facilities and outdoor spaces look exactly as on the website. We stayed at El Hispano and everything was absolutely fine. Although, I must say, we didn't spend much time indoors, as the private outdoor courtyard with sunbeds and own barbecue provides a perfect, intimate space for the long evenings.

The swimmingpool area is also very nice and there is another sitting area behind the sunbeds where guests can sit by a table on the shade and have a drink. There is also wireless internet access throughout the resort.

With regards to the horseriding, this was the most important aspect of the holiday for me and Trudi, the BHS instructor helped me tremendously with improving my riding. The horses at El Rancho are a delight, well-mannered and trained and suitable for all levels of riding. Hacks are also offered around a lovely pine forest.

I would definitely recommend El Rancho to anyone who would like a riding and relaxing holiday. I will be back again at El Rancho in two weeks' time!!

Special interest holidays:

At "El Rancho" our passion in life are our horses, these are our own personal horses - our extended family. Our horses are all loved and cared for, regularly exercised and given only the best feed and supplements. Yes, they are thoroughly spoilt, however this is only reflected in their good manners and well being. All our horses have recieved BHS schooling. During the summer our horses graze naturally through the olive groves. If you would like to participate in trail riding whilst you are staying with us, we are more than happy to discuss your riding requirements. The trails, vary between tracks through the valleys amongst the olive groves to pathways through the pine clad mountains, all our routes are varied, depending on the ability of the rider, however all our routes provide breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Jacque always likes to give our younger clients a riding appraisal in our dressage arena, before venturing into the mountains for the first time.

Numerous sandy beaches and sea food restaurants of the Costa Del Sol can be reached in as little time as 40 minutes, El Palo, has many chiringito's, and the famous fish Restaurant "El Tintero" is a favourite with the Spanish locals. There are also several water parks on the Coast and Tivoli fun Park in Benalmadena. The lakeside beaches of Lake Iznajar are only 20 minutes away, and has child friendly sandy beaches. There is also a beachside chiringito (bar/restaurant) for snacks and refreshments.

Both Granada and Malaga airports are within an easy 45 minutes drive, we would recommend hiring a car, although we can arrange to collect you from either airport if required.

The "Peublo Blanco" village of Villanueva del Trabuco is 3km from El Rancho, a pleasant stroll in the Spring and Autumn, with a couple of restaurants/bars on route. Close by are the historical towns of Antequera and Archidona, Antequera was originally established during the Roman times and is steeped in interesting architecture, it is well worth a visit to see the historic bull ring, traditional restaurants and street cafes. Antequera also has some great fashion boutiques.

Further Details:

The traditional village of Villanueva del Trabuco, contains a variety of authentic tapas bars and restaurants, offering a wide variety of different cuisines. In the village you will find many different shops, from small supermarkets to gift shops to women's boutiques. There is also a daily indoor market selling fresh produce, fruit and veg, fresh fish and meat. Trabuco has a beautiful new central plaza with numerous bars and cafes centered around a fountain, an ideal place to take a coffee or a glass of wine and watch the locals go by. Trabuco has many fiestas through the year where you can see on first hand the "Real Spain" with the women all dressed in their traditional dresses and the men on their Andalucian horses, bands playing in the plaza and everyone having a great time. The Fiestas are a major part of life in the Andalucain countryside and everyone joins in, from the smallest baby to the oldest grandparent.

Other places of interest include the famous Alhambra Palace at Granada, an absolute must, there are also the famous historic towns of Ronda, Sevilla and Cordoba. All worthy of a visit.

At El Rancho we are also able to arrange for our guests a variety of other activities, including off road trail biking, complete with personal tour guide, scuba diving and golf. The local area is a haven for bird watchers, painters, walkers, climbers, mountain bikers and photographers. For more detailed information please visit our website.
