About the property

El Rancho is a luxury holiday retreat (license No. RTA VTAR MA 01197), set in the heart of the Andalucian countryside, surrounded by 4 acres of private organic olive groves, with views of pine clad mountains. The Organic olive farm has exclusive horse riding facilities ( subject to availability please enquire ) complete with 20 x 40m professional dressage arena, and offers 3 luxury self catering cottages. All the cottages are beautifully designed with landscaped gardens and terraces with 2 swimming pools & a heated jacuzzi. All cottages have private dinning and sunbathing terraces and have been individually designed and lovingly furnished in a typically Andalucian style, to the highest standards. An ideal retreat for couples and families of all ages, seeking a relaxing holiday. Ideally located for sightseeing, (Alhambra Palace, Ronda, Seville) only 40 mins from the the beaches of the Costa del Sol and only 20 mins from the beautiful beaches of the fresh water lake of Iznajar, where you find sun beds for hire as well as pedlos and kayaks. There also two restaurants on the lake side. The traditional village of Villanueva del Trabuco has numerous tapas bars and good restaurants offering a wealth of local cuisine and varied wine lists, all just only 5 minutes away.

We are a private equestrian centre, with riding only available for our guests. Our horses are part of the family and are impeccably looked after. We offer private one to one lessons in our Dessage arena and also hacks out in the stunning surrounding countryside.

Our olives are farmed by ourselves and cold pressed to make our own organic extra virgin olive oil and guests are welcome to sample our very own olive oil whilst visiting.

We can also arrange olive oil tasting and 3 course lunch at our close friends old restored olive mill, the first olive mill in this area. The mill has been restored and the owner is only too happy to provide organised tours of the mill. His olive oil has won numerous awards all over Europe.

The local village of Villanueva del Trabuco has a weekly market on a Wednesday as long as a daily fresh fish and meat market.

The pretty square of Trabuco can be a great place to enjoy a coffee or tapas and watch the world go by and of an evening in the summer is a hive of activity with its restaurants and bars offering El Fesco dinning in true Sapnish tradition.

For those seeking further adventure we are happy to organise flights in a micro light aeroplane from our local airfield, a spectacular way to see the beautiful countryside. this can be booked upon arrival and is dependent on weather conditions.

Beautiful place and wonderful hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Well, what can I say? Our trip to Spain was bittersweet. I had dreams of sitting in the hottub with the love of my life, surrounded by beauty. I dreamt of riding a horse in the Andalucian mountains. My dreams did not come true, as such. I was heartbroken. However, the circumstances were due to mother nature and a pump failure, which was beyond the control of the hosts. Garrett and Jacqui were absolutely wonderful and apologetic for the weather and did all they could to make us comfortable and warm. El Rancho itself was gorgeous. The cottages were lovely and had everything we needed to make our own meals, including a barbecue. The bed was super comfortable and the shower had good pressure.

We took day trips to Malaga, Ronda, the Alhambra and Seville. This was the perfect base for exploring. We tried a few of the restaurants recommended by Garrett and Jacqui and they didn't disappoint.

The mountains are all around and we went for walks to admire the beauty despite the rain and cold. I would love to return here some day (when it's warm) and enjoy all that this amazing setting has to offer. I definitely recommend a stay here. Just not in April, perhaps.

Thank you Garrett and Jacqui (and your extended family) for being such wonderful hosts. All the best in the coming season. Perhaps we'll see you again!

El Rancho was absolutely perfect and our genial hosts could not do enough to help.

  • 5 of 5

What a superb find El Rancho is! Set on the outskirts of the fabulous village of Villanueva Del Trabuco it offers peace and tranquility in an idyllic location. The accommodation is first class and once you're settled in and ready to be a little more active there's plenty close at hand including onsite equestrian facilities and treking. Hosts Garret and Jacqui are a mine of local information and cannot do enough to ensure guests make the most of their stay. The views alone are reason enough to visit El Rancho but there's simply so much more...

Fabulous taste of Andalusia

  • 5 of 5

We've just come back from our 5th or 6th visit to El Rancho and all had a fabulous time... again. We can't recommend this place highly enough. Fantastic accommodation, a real taste of Andalusia amongst the beautiful mountains with views to die for. Jacque and Garret are superb hosts and any recommendations for bars or restaurants will be good.

With comfortable accommodation, lots of different areas to sit out and enjoy the views or the pools, El Rancho makes a great place for a family holiday.

We can't wait to go back again!

Treated like one of the family, no higher accolade in our opinion

  • 5 of 5

Contacted before the holiday, good directions to the property made it easy to find, quiet and scenic location, accommodation of a high standard which is what you would expect. Yes, you do need a car to make the most of the area but El Rancho is well placed to explore the fabulous Andalusian region. Although if you just want a relaxing time lounging by the pool and soaking in the hot tub then you can. Enjoyed a riding lesson on the lovely grey Havana, leaving Jeremy to enjoy the pool area - win/win.

However, what made this holiday special is Jacqui and Garret themselves, nothing was too much trouble, always helpful, definitely over and above what you expect. It was like we became part of their extended family such a bonus and privilege, looking forward to returning - our first visit will not be our last.

An absolute gem!

  • 5 of 5

To experience the real Spain in wonderful surroundings, El Rancho is absolutely perfect. The accommodation is spacious, clean and extremely quiet and the hosts, Jacque and Garret, are just wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and they go out of their way make sure everyone has a fantastic holiday. They, together with Norma and Malcolm, were able to give us so many tips on places to visit (thanks Norma for all the maps and brochures!), restaurants to eat in and were always around for a lovely chat. We would highly recommend El Rancho to friends and family and hope it won't be too long before we return to see some more of this wonderful part of Spain.

Fantastic El Rancho

  • 5 of 5

Had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at El Rancho. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were made to feel very welcome by the owners Garret and Jackie, they really could not do enough for you. the villa we stayed in was fantastic with a lovely roof terrace somewhere to go and hide away or enjoy the views whilst having your breakfast. Cleanliness was second to none and the villa had a lovely homely feel and was very well equipped. Lovely horses for the equestrian people to enjoy. We will be returning very soon. Thank you for a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

Special interest holidays:

At "El Rancho" our passion in life are our horses, these are our own personal horses - our extended family. Our horses are all loved and cared for, regularly exercised and given only the best feed and supplements. Yes, they are thoroughly spoilt, however this is only reflected in their good manners and well being. All our horses have recieved BHS schooling. During the summer our horses graze naturally through the olive groves. If you would like to participate in trail riding whilst you are staying with us, we are more than happy to discuss your riding requirements. The trails, vary between tracks through the valleys amongst the olive groves to pathways through the pine clad mountains, all our routes are varied, depending on the ability of the rider, however all our routes provide breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Jacque always likes to give our younger clients a riding appraisal in our dressage arena, before venturing into the mountains for the first time.

Numerous sandy beaches and sea food restaurants of the Costa Del Sol can be reached in as little time as 40 minutes, El Palo, has many chiringito's, and the famous fish Restaurant "El Tintero" is a favourite with the Spanish locals. There are also several water parks on the Coast and Tivoli fun Park in Benalmadena. The lakeside beaches of Lake Iznajar are only 20 minutes away, and has child friendly sandy beaches. There is also a beachside chiringito (bar/restaurant) for snacks and refreshments.

Both Granada and Malaga airports are within an easy 45 minutes drive, we would recommend hiring a car, although we can arrange to collect you from either airport if required.

The "Peublo Blanco" village of Villanueva del Trabuco is 3km from El Rancho, a pleasant stroll in the Spring and Autumn, with a couple of restaurants/bars on route. Close by are the historical towns of Antequera and Archidona, Antequera was originally established during the Roman times and is steeped in interesting architecture, it is well worth a visit to see the historic bull ring, traditional restaurants and street cafes. Antequera also has some great fashion boutiques.

Further Details:

The traditional village of Villanueva del Trabuco, contains a variety of authentic tapas bars and restaurants, offering a wide variety of different cuisines. In the village you will find many different shops, from small supermarkets to gift shops to women's boutiques. There is also a daily indoor market selling fresh produce, fruit and veg, fresh fish and meat. Trabuco has a beautiful new central plaza with numerous bars and cafes centered around a fountain, an ideal place to take a coffee or a glass of wine and watch the locals go by. Trabuco has many fiestas through the year where you can see on first hand the "Real Spain" with the women all dressed in their traditional dresses and the men on their Andalucian horses, bands playing in the plaza and everyone having a great time. The Fiestas are a major part of life in the Andalucain countryside and everyone joins in, from the smallest baby to the oldest grandparent.

Other places of interest include the famous Alhambra Palace at Granada, an absolute must, there are also the famous historic towns of Ronda, Sevilla and Cordoba. All worthy of a visit.

At El Rancho we are also able to arrange for our guests a variety of other activities, including off road trail biking, complete with personal tour guide, scuba diving and golf. The local area is a haven for bird watchers, painters, walkers, climbers, mountain bikers and photographers. For more detailed information please visit our website.
