Houses in Littlebourne and Bekesbourne, Nr. Canterbury, Kent, England - Two in a village riverside Location and one on a fruit farm, all within 10 minutes from Canterbury

Both the Oast and Tannery have secluded private patio gardens overlooking a small stream on one side with a traditional village green on the other side. The Old Tannery was a former working tannery in the 17th century and has attractive beamed ceilings in the bedrooms. The Oast was originally built to dry hops used to brew beer. The Oast has an interesting wooden walkway out over the river. Ellens Cottage is on our fruit farm between Littlebourne and Bekesbourne with a large private garden mainly lawn and trees, with views accross the fields. A welcome pack is provided with basic requirements to start you off on your holiday. Local places of interest include Canterbury Cathedral, Howletts Zoo Park, Dover Castle, Royal St George's Golf Club, the cinque ports of Sandwich and Deal, and the seaside towns of Whitstable and Faversham. The Channel Tunnel is 20 minutes drive away.

One master kingsize en suite bedroom with its own dressing room which is ideal for a cot. A king size en suite double. 1 twin bedroom. A landing bathroom.

A large kitchen with all facilities required including electric oven and gas hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer. A dining room. A large sitting room with French windows looking out over the patio garden and river. A hallway with separate toilet.

There is also a utility room with a washing machine and tumble drier, iron and ironing board.

A cot and highchair are supplied at no extra cost upon request.

Britisches Landhaus-Feeling pur

Für unseren ersten Aufenthalt in Südengland hatten wir uns "The old Tannery" in der Nähe von Canterbury ausgesucht. Wir wurden nicht enttäuscht. Schon der Kontakt mit der Vermieterin, Rosie, vermittelte das Gefühl von echter englischer Gastfreundschaft.

Vor Ort fanden wir dann ein wundervolles Haus vor, das voll und ganz unserer Erwartung erfüllte. Drei Schlafzimmer mit bequemen Betten und mit drei Bädern, davon zwei ensuite, sorgten für eine erholsame Nachtruhe. In der gemütlichen, gut ausgestatteten Küche haben wir mit Vergnügen die Mahlzeiten zubereitetet, die wir aufgrund des herrlichen Wetters auf der Terrasse im verwunschenen Garten genießen konnten.

"The old Tannery" war für uns der ideale Ausgangspunkt für die Besichtigung der Gärten und Schlösser im Südosten Englands. Besonders praktisch empfanden wir, dass die Bushaltestelle für den Bus nach Canterbury nur wenige Schritte vom Haus entfernt liegt. Wir haben dies genutzt, um die Umgebung einmal ohne Auto zu erkunden.

Wir können "The old Tannery" uneingeschränkt weiter empfehlen. Sie eignet sich besonders gut für für Freunde oder eine größere Familie, zumal das Nachbarhaus dazu gemietet werden kann.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Good sandy beaches can be found at Sandwich Bay and Broadstairs, which are about 20 minutes away by car. Whitstable is an interesting fishing village famous for its oysters and is about 30 minutes away by car. Good restaurants can be found in and around Canterbury and Whitstable is excellent for fresh fish. We have a full list of recommended places to eat and visit in our houses.

Travel:

London Gatwick and London Stansted airports are approx 1 1/2 hours away with London Heathrow about 2 hours. London City airport is approx 1 1/2 hours.

Train from Dover or London (Victoria, Waterloo or Charing Cross) to Canterbury East or Canterbury West Station.

Channel Tunnel at Folkestone 20 minutes, and Eurostar Ashford International Station 40 minutes.

Distances:

Leeds Castle, Maidstone 50 minutes.

Dover, 20 minutes.

Sandwich, 20 minutes.

Canterbury, 10 minutes.

Howletts Zoo Park, 5 minutes.

Further Details:

Local small shop and Post Office in Littlebourne with a choice of several pubs in nearby villages. More shopping choice in the village of Bridge which is 5 minutes by car.

Supermarkets in Canterbury and door to door deliveries can be arranged.

Excellent permanent Farmers Market in Canterbury and good rural shopping area in Bekesbourne

    Visit our website (see below) for full details of prices and how to book. A deposit of £200 per house is requested at the time of booking. This is retained until after your stay and refunded to you as long as the house is left clean and tidy with no damages. Full payment is due 8 weeks prior to your stay.

    Changeover Day:
    Fridays at Ellens and Saturdays at the Oast and Tannery according to availability.
    We only do short breaks from October to the end of March (apart from Easter, christmas/new year and half term holidays) All other times are booked by the week.

    Notes on prices:
    Weekly prices range from £650 - £2100 according to the season and which house you choose.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: All three houses are centrally heated and the Oast and Tannery have gas fired wood burning stoves in the sitting rooms. They all have separate dining rooms. Children are welcome, the river is safely fenced off at the Oast and Tannery and the village green at the front is always a popular place for a game of cricket or football. At Ellens there is a large lawned area and there are some lovely walks on the footpaths through the farm. There is ample private parking at all three houses. Outside: The patio gardens have been attractively planted and both overlook the quiet chalk stream where there are plenty of birds and ducks to spot. Garden table and chairs are supplied as well as BBQs. Ellens has a large garden suitable for families with children and there are many walks on the farm, some with glimpses of the animals at Howletts Wildlife Park
