'We had a great time, the cottage was lovely, well equipped especially in the kitchen, I do a fair bit of cooking and every utensil I needed was there! Very good comfortable cottage. Just right for 2 of us. Perhaps the external patio could be upgraded

Located in a tranquil hamlet in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Village shop and traditional inn serving good bar meals located 5 minutes walk away. The membership to the leisure club was a real bonus given the bad weather during our stay.

Cosy and Convenient

Just back from a lovely pre Christmas break to Chapel Stile. This cottage is perfectly situated with gorgeous open views from the kitchen/living room. A real log fire got the place so cosy. The wonderful Brambles convenience store a 2 minute walk for local delights and even the odd fry up when feeling lazy. Two fantastic pubs in the village with friendly locals and holiday makers alike. Even with the rainy week we had it was possible to get out over the fells to Ambleside and Little Langdale. Thank you for a lovely stay.

A Great Escape

We have recently booked our third visit to this little cottage. Despite having never before returned to exactly the same spot, this cottage really works well for us. In a beautiful location, with access to all the lakes has to offer, we can walk, run or cycle direct from the front door. The real bonus with this cottage, however, is the access provided to the Langdale Country Club and it's swimming pool and spa. On wet days (and you have to expect some of these in the Lakes), this little extra really weatherproofing the holiday.

Location location!

Very cute, small cottage in a charming, tiny village with great walks from the front door. The cottage is well set up though there are no extras like a little tea and coffee for when you arrive. Also no towels at all are provided which is an irritating feature if you are coming from overseas! We forgot to get some en route, but were able to buy some for a price from the Co-op in the village.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the proximity to Coniston made it inviting to hike up Old Man Coniston and even do a little boating. Needless to say four days of perfect weather made it easy to enjoy our visit.

Chapel Stile is the perfect village location with stunning mountain scenery. Walks for children and easy low level valley rides start from the door. Serious mountaineering is found at the head of the valley and epic extreme mountain bike routes extend across the local craggy woodland.

Activity and Interests


The Langdale Country Club is half a mile away for inclusive use of the pool which is open daily (except from 4pm to 6pm and 8am to 9am for Children). The local mountain river is within easy walking distance with a picnic area. Grasmere, Lake Windermere and Coniston are each within 20 mins drive.


Manchester Airport is 100 miles away and 1 hour 45 minutes by car, or direct rail to Windermere then a 20 minute taxi drive from the station. West Coast Virgin rail Pendelino Service to "Oxenholme Lake District" then 45 minutes by taxi or connections to Windemere as above. Local Bus has a 15 minute link to Ambleside the nearest market town.


Ambleside 4 Miles. Langdale Pikes and access to ScaFell Pike via The Old Dungeon Ghyll is 3 miles. Grasmere 4 miles for Wordsworths Cottage. Sailing on Windermere and Coniston or Steam Boat Trips are 8 miles. Grizedale Forest is an easy drive for Mountain Bikes, Orienteering and the popular "Go Ape".

Further Details:

A local co-op village store provides all the essentials and is a 2 minute walk. Adventure and watersport activities are available from Ambleside, Windermere and Coniston. Wordsworth's Cottage at Grasmere is "over the fell".
