About the Owner

Rhian went to Bordeaux International School between the ages of 16 and 19 and fell in love with France then, while I'm a keen skier. We'd wanted to move to France since 2005, but had no idea how we could earn a living - Rhian was a printing company line manager and I was a commercial manager in a defence company, and neither of us wanted to do that kind of work in France. Then, in March 2007, I visited the Portes du Soleil ski area (near Geneva) on holiday and realised that the small tour operator I was staying with didn't actually own the chalet they used – they rented it. Suddenly the idea of having our own small tour operator business in the ski industry became a possibility (and now a reality!)

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We are still talking about how wonderful our stay was - both families agree it was the best ski holiday ever and that is completely down to how you looked after us. We would love to stay with you again. I really admire the lifestyle choice you have made and the energy and determination you are putting into it!" (Dave Yip Feb 2011)

“We all just wanted to say a quick but massive thank you for the lovely time we had at Sara Marie! Jess and Jules were fantastic hosts and the food throughout the week was superb (Jess deserves a lot of credit for this)! We were most impressed by the lengths that they went to in order to accommodate for Nat's dairy allergy and the variety of food provided! We will certainly be recommending the chalet to friends and family in the future!! THANK YOU!!" (James Thysse March 2011)

"Thanks for a lovely time in your chalet. Great food, fantastic people and loads of fun. You’ll definitely see us again!!" (Straeuli & Coetsee families Jan 2012).

“Thank you Sam, Ross, Garrett and Rhian for an excellent week. We really appreciate your hospitality and the many laughs we’ve had over the course of this week. The food has been great and waking up to a cooked breakfast has been lovely. Thank you Sam for cleaning our rooms and being great company, and thank you Ross and Garrett for coming out with us on Tuesday and Thursday. We had a great time at the snow parks, despite Thomas’ and James’ injuries! Nevertheless, we’ve had an excellent time here at chalet Sara Marie, so thank you very much! This is our eighth year skiing as a group of 18, and you have been the best chalet hosts by far! We will miss you!” (David Wilkinson’s group Feb 2014)

“Our second visit to chalet Sara Marie and once again we were very well looked after by Sam and Ross. The food has been excellent and the hosting has been first class. Garrett and Rhian also made sure our stay was 100% with Garrett skiing with us for two days. All in all, a fantastic holiday. We can’t wait to come back!” (Andrew, Helene and George Goodwin & Alison Hosken Jan 2014)

“A cheeky few days boarding turned into a gastronomic powder epic! Fantastic hosts – thanks Yolly & Alicia x. Fantastic food, great company – thanks guys. Great powder conditions – already looking forward to next year.” (Mark Rogers April 2012)

“Really great week. A lot of snow and some challenging weather ; made for fantastic skiing! Menu suitable for wheat intolerance and my many other allergies without any alterations or fuss. Always able to eat a full meal and a lot of thought has gone into it. Thank you!” (Claudia Smitherman Dec 2011)

“Sara Marie is a great chalet. Very clean and comfortable with plenty of wardrobe space. Food was of an excellent standard – Sam’s desserts and afternoon cakes were to die for. Sam and Sarah were wonderful hosts and looked after us in every way – nothing was ever too much trouble.” (Graham Gayler – Apr 2009)

Fabulous Catered Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous chalet with great hosts and wonderful food. Very welcoming staff, always happy to assist in dietary needs and general assistance. We have been using Silver-lining Chalets since they first started 8 years ago and they never fail to keep us well fed, watered and on the slopes. We will be back again this coming season.

High standard of accommodation and food

  • 5 of 5

Well placed for skiing. Accommodation was excellent. The hosts were exceptional both in service and the food. The children were catered for separately (if requested). An absolute treat. A shame to come home!

All Round 5 Star

  • 5 of 5

We have just come back from an amazing ski holiday staying in Chalet Sara Marie. From start to finish Rhian and Garrett could not have been more accommodating or helpful. The chalet itself was spotless and had everything a skiing holiday could want - including heated boot warmers, sauna and hot tub!

Sam the chef and Andy the chalet host - were both brilliant and the food was delicious - they catered to all our dietary requirement(vegetarian, gluten free, nut allergies) with no problem at all.

A fantastic evening was sorted out on the Tuesday night - chalet staff night off - where we went to a farm restaurant - wonderful.

All in all - a superb 5 star holiday- thank you

A chalet for all seasons

  • 5 of 5

For ski-ing in the winter season or fabulous walking in the spring, summer and autumn this fantastic spot needs tasting all year round. This chalet, and Garrett & Rhian's accompanying chalet, provide the perfect bases from which to do it. Log fires, balconies to sun yourself on, a stone's throw from the main ski lifts that open up the whole 3 valleys ski area - can't think what more anyone could want. Oh! And the views; and the peace (unless you fancy some pubs and clubs that are near enough to visit but not near enough to hear). Just about perfect realy.

Silver Lining Chalets

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to the Three Valley's and on both occasions we have stayed at Chalet Sara Marie.

The chalet owners Rhian and Garrett along with the chalet hosts Sam and Ross were very welcoming and great company and made sure all our needs were catered for.

The food is excellent - cooked and continental breakfast, homemade cakes in the afternoon and four course evening meals with three choices of wine.

The chalet is situated in Le Bettaix and is next door to the ski rental shop and only a short walk from the lift taking you up to the main resort of Les Menuires.

The skiing is absolutely amazing with a complete range of pistes for all abilities. There are also plenty of very good restaurants and cafes for that much needed coffee, beer, vin chaud or hot chocolate.

All in all this is the best chalet and resort we have visited and can't recommend it highly enough and we have booked again for 2015!

Les Menuires is our closest main ski resort, and that offers plenty of terrain to get you started (easy greens, wide blues and reds, and difficult, black mogul fields). It also includes the more challenging area of La Masse, which has some great reds and blacks starting out from above 2800m (and also some easier blues lower down).

Facilities

From the Owner

If the weather is sunny, you should head for Val Thorens (which offers amazing skiing from 1800m to 3230m) where the sun will top up your tan, and the snow is almost guaranteed to be in fantastic condition (being surrounded by no less than six glaciers). You could also do a (speedy) half-day trip to Orelle, or a more relaxed full-day trip. Once there, you'll find the highest point reachable by lift in the Three Valleys (top of the Bouchet chairlift at 3230m) and also some great off-piste. Going slightly further afield, Meribel and Courchevel are great day trips. They can be reached in under 45 and 90 minutes respectively, giving you ample time to explore.
