Chalets Brio, sleeping up to 16 and La Terrasse, sleeping 6, two chalets under one roof, newly built to a very comfortable standard and can be taken separately or together. We are surrounded by large gardens and decked terraces, great play areas for children in winter and summer, with plenty of off road parking. In summer enjoy the large, outdoor heated swimming pool and in winter soak away the days' skiing in the hot tub. The accommodation is very flexible and works extremely well for large or small groups and is perfect for special occasions.
Set amongst genuine old Savoyard farmhouses in the small hamlet of L'Etelley we're minutes in one direction from the fast telecabine from Samoens and in the other, the ski lift from Morillon, both take you up into the Grand Massif and 265 km of extensive skiing. In summer you can drive, hike or bike; swim or just relax in the garden or try out the many activities on offer.
With lovely views of the valley from the spacious open plan living and dining area upstairs in Chalet Brio there's plenty of room to enjoy the fantastic views, warm yourselves in front of the fire or relax on the comfy sofas. La Terrasse opens onto the south facing gardens and is spacious, warm and comfortable.
Samoens with its bustle on the streets, excellent shops and cafes is always a favourite place to visit. If you want a change from skiing the area has plenty to offer, from snow shoe and cross county trails to botanical gardens and cultural attractions.
A love for the mountains and fresh air drew us to this wonderful part of the world. Both professional people we gave up our jobs in the UK and set up home in the Haute Savoie. We found a great plot and with the help of a local architect built Chalet Brio. There is so much going on around Samoens both summer and winter, the social life is very good and we have made many friends, both French and English. We love meeting new people so running a chalet is ideal.
We have two children, now snow board instructors and both working in far off parts of the world. Who knows, they may both join us one day.
Caroline Thompson purchased this chalet in 2008
The resort has very easy access and is just an hours drive from Geneva which makes it perfect for quick trips back to the UK. It's part of the Grand Massif and this is a great ski area, and it is a vibrant, lived in, authentic, all year round community.
Chalet Brio is on the outskirts of Samoens in a quiet hamlet, and we found a very large plot which gives us plenty of outdoor space, including room for an organic vegetable garden which provides some of the ingredients for our catered guests, the swimming pool and the geothermal heating system. It's a great location and close to all the ski lifts and local activities. We have wonderful views from our house out towards Mt Criou and beyond.
We spent a lot of time laying out the design of Chalet Brio. We wanted it to work very well for both us as our home and for every one staying here. It's light and spacious and open plan, with a log fire in the sitting area and wonderful views of Mt Criou. It feels cosy and comfortable whether there are just the two of us or a chalet full.
The heating and hot water come from our underground geothermal system, which cuts our energy bills a great deal. The large outdoor swimming pool has proved to be very popular in summer and sitting in the hot tub in winter you look out across the meadows, sometimes the deer come down from the forest and pass by. We're surrounded by wild life, fields and trees.
That little bit of paradise we discovered last summer has fully lived up to its' reputation for skiing, loved it so much we can't wait to get back. Nigel, Libby and Ben Feb 2010.
What a wonderful chalet, it certainly has the wow factor, we have been well looked after by exceptional hosts and had the best of both worlds, skiing and sunbathing. Rachel, Rupert and families April 2010.
This chalet is so nice, the 2 weeks has gone even quicker than last year, I love it here so much. Adam, August 2010.
