Special interest holidays:

Winter Sports: The Grand Massif area has 265km of runs from an altitude of 2480m – new development over the 2017 summer will mean 4 more runs and Europe’s longest lift transporting skiers 2850m in just 10mins.

Walking: The area is famous for its Alpine walking with clear signposted routes and refugees for meals or overnight stays. Guided walking can also be arranged

Mountain Biking: A variety of blue, red and black runs all accessible by the resort lifts allows gravity assisted fun for the whole family. Bike hire, lessons and guiding can all be arranged.

Climbing: With over 1000 routes in the local area including single and multi-pitch on the highest quality limestone you can tackle a new sector every day or work on your next project.

Road Cycling: The famous ‘Col du Joux Plane’ in on our doorstep but if an average grade of 8.5% isn’t your scene then there is plenty more on offer to explore this beautiful area on two wheels.

Travel:

Travel options include driving via Rheims and Dijon and the journey from the French ports takes 8 -10 hours depending on speed and stops. Or many people prefer to fly into Geneva and pick up a hire car for the easy journey to the resort which should take between 1 to 1.5 hours. Having a car in summer is recommended as it gives you greater flexibility, but for non-drivers taking the catered option in winter we operate a minibus service and the chalet is on the ski bus route.

Distances:

Morillon: 1km

Samoens: 2km

Geneva: 50km

Les Gets/Morzine: 20 - 25km

Chamonix: 55km

Further Details:

The local area around Samoens manages to combine all of the expectations of a modern resort including a good range of shops, bars and restaurants with the traditional charms of a typical French alpine resort. Whether you want World class skiing and mountain biking or just want to kick back and take a moment to enjoy the wonderful natural surroundings a stay at Chalet Brio will meet all of your holiday needs.

Chalet Brio sleeps 14 comfortably or 16 if using all beds

La Terrasse sleeps 6 comfortably or 8 using sofa bed

The chalet was built in 2007 to an exceptionally high standard .We are surrounded by large gardens and decked terraces, great play areas for children in winter and summer, with plenty of off road parking. In summer enjoy the large, outdoor heated swimming pool and in winter soak away the days' skiing in the hot tub. The accommodation is very flexible and works extremely well for large or small groups and is perfect for special occasions.

Set amongst genuine old Savoyard farmhouses in the small hamlet of L'Etelley we're minutes in one direction from the fast telecabine from Samoens and in the other, the ski lift from Morillon, both take you up into the Grand Massif and 265 km of extensive skiing. In summer you can drive, hike or bike; swim or just relax in the garden or try out the many activities on offer.

With lovely views of the valley from the spacious open plan living and dining area upstairs in Chalet Brio there's plenty of room to enjoy the fantastic views, warm yourselves in front of the fire or relax on the comfy sofas. La Terrasse opens onto the south facing gardens and is spacious, warm and comfortable.

Samoens with its bustle on the streets, excellent shops and cafes is always a favourite place to visit. If you want a change from skiing the area has plenty to offer, from snow shoe and cross county trails to botanical gardens and cultural attractions.

About Denee and Joss Thompson

We have always loved the mountains and after 14 seasons working around the World we couldn't pass up the opportunity to take over the running of Chalet Brio from Joss’ parents – especially as we got married in the garden! Both professional people we gave up our jobs in the UK and set up home in the Haute Savoie. During the winter as well as snowboarding we also enjoy ski touring and mountaineering. During the summer months we road bike, mountain bike, climb and enjoy alpine walks with our dog Lhotse.

There is so much going on around Samoens both summer and winter, the social life is very good and we have made many friends, both French and English. We love meeting new people so running a chalet is ideal.

Denee and Joss Thompson purchased this chalet in 2017

Why Denee and Joss Thompson chose Flaine - Grand Massif

The resort has very easy access and is just an hours drive from Geneva which makes it perfect for quick trips back to the UK. It's part of the Grand Massif and this is a great ski area, and it is a vibrant, lived in, authentic, all year round community.

Chalet Brio is on the outskirts of Samoens in a quiet hamlet, we have plenty of outdoor space, including room for an organic vegetable garden which provides some of the ingredients for our catered guests, the swimming pool and the geothermal heating system. It's a great location and close to all the ski lifts and local activities. We have wonderful views from our house out towards Mt Criou and beyond.

What makes this chalet unique

The chalet was built in 2007 using the finest local materials. It's light and spacious and open plan, with a log fire in the sitting area and wonderful views of Mt Criou. It feels cosy and comfortable whether there are just the two of us or a chalet full.

The heating and hot water come from our underground geothermal system, which cuts our energy bills a great deal. The large outdoor swimming pool has proved to be very popular in summer and sitting in the hot tub in winter you look out across the meadows, sometimes the deer come down from the forest and pass by. We're surrounded by wildlife, fields and trees.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: We are ideal for large family groups or friends, especially if you take Brio and La Terrasse together when we open up the whole chalet, but in winter, when Brio is catered, we are just as happy to welcome people for shorter stays out of the peak holiday periods, and for people to book a room rather than the whole chalet. La Terrasse can be taken catered or self catered all year. All towels and linen are provided, together with down duvets and cotton sheets. The chalet is cleaned daily if catered and at the end of stay if self catered. Chalet hosts live in a separate apartment within the chalet and are usually on hand to help out if needed. Both units are warm & spacious, bright and very comfortable, with mainly wooden floors, large windows, clean & fresh bathrooms and high quality fittings & furniture. Outside: The large gardens extend all around the chalet and up the hillside with lovely views in all four directions, ideal for bird watching and enjoying the wildlife. In summer you can find a shady spot under the trees or lounge on the decking and enjoy the sun by the pool. There is plenty of space for games, barbecues and relaxation and a range of outdoor furniture is provided. La Terrasse has its own south facing private garden with a shaded terrace, eating area and pergola. The fabulous heated swimming pool (10m x 5m) is for the use in summer of all guests in the chalet. In winter make your own toboggan runs and ski jumps in the large back garden.
