As the name suggests, La Bastide du Murier, is in the old silk growing region of Provence hence the 100 year old mulberry tree next to the pool. Today the countryside surrounding the house provides wine and delicious olive oil. Cotignac 3km away offers delicious restaurants, markets with locally produced vegetables and delicacies not to mention the many fetes. You are only a short drive from airports Nice, Marseille, Toulon and the well known attractions of St Tropez, Nice and Aix en Provence. On arrival you will be greeted with a welcome drink and nibbles from your host.

Coming home

Since 2006 we have been staying 7 times (May or September) at the Bastide du Murier, hopefully we can return soon. In September 2015 we stayed there together with friends, we were 6 guests and each of the 3 couples lived in its double bedroom with ensuite bathrooms and lovely decorated in provencal style. We all loved the wonderful atmosphere of the property which is totally private. The owners live just outside the property but respect your privacy entirely. Both of them are so full of friendliness and hospitality, they are courteous and helpful. Staying in their property is like coming home!!!

The property offers an authentic traditional provencal farmhouse with huge fireplace and antique furniture. One double bedroom is inside the farmhouse, two additional double bedrooms are located next to the swimming pool. There are two completely fitted kitchens, one indoor and the other one outdoor combined with an outdoor dining area. You have 2 dishwashers at your choice, it depends on whether you've dined indoors or out.

The owners run a great restaurant in the nearby area. It is a pleasure to have every days dinner there.

The Bastide du Murier is the perfect place for vacation in the south of France. Here you will experience real hospitality.

Owner's Response: merci pour ce beau message je ne parle pas anglais mais GOOGLE peut traduire pour vous tous les vacanciers ont a leur arrivée, une bouteille de champagne rosé chateau carpe diem et une bouteille de vin rosé, un plat de bienvenue, et s'ils veulent diner chez nous le menu vous sera déduit de 10%, nous faisons tout pour faire plaisir, et à chaque passage de nos vacanciers ils nous invitent à boire un verre pour nous remercier, c'est une vrai famille. certains respectent tellement ce lieu, qu'ils partent en nettoyant la maison comme chez eux, merci pour eux

Authentic provencal

We have been staying at the Bastide du Murier each spring since 2014 and hope to return soon. The original property dates back centuries and offers all the charms of an authentic traditional provencal farmhouse: beamed ceilings, thick walls, huge fireplace, antique furniture and cosy decor. This is a real home, not a purpose built rental. The original farmhouse was expanded around the swimming pool to enclose a completely fitted outdoor dining area and kitchen and two additional double bedrooms with each with ensuite bathrooms. This adds to the original master bedroom in the main house. All of which are exquisitely decorated in the French provencal style. The property is totally private and perfect for family and friends. The best is the fully equipped kitchen(s)! You can tell the house belongs to a local chef. Every pot and pan, utensil, platter, is available, along with complete sets of dishes outside and inside the house. 2 dishwashers accommodate whether you've dined indoors or out. The owners live just outside the property but respect your privacy entirely. They Have run two great restaurants in the area and know all the wineries nearby.

This is great place to experience the real south of France hospitality.

A little unloved

The basic layout of this property works well with three good sized bedrooms, dining room and good sized pool kitchen around the central pool and an easy drive from Cotignac. It was a former B&B and some parts of the house are shut off which is presumably why the photographs show four different bedrooms.

It felt a little neglected. The pool furniture was mismatched, the shrubs had not been pruned so that the main bedroom was very dark and you couldn’t get through the outside passage to the pool. The pool kitchen worktops were unfinished. The main kitchen and bathrooms were very dark with several dud bulbs and insufficient lighting. Despite the hefty cleaning charge there were several greasy surfaces and dirt behind kitchen top appliances such as the microwave. There was one stained chopping board seemingly shared between the pool and house kitchen. There was no house book or instructions of any sort such as to how to use the pool gas bbq or dishwasher, local maps or attractions and no spices/salt/pepper/matches as we have often found in other holiday rentals.

We had specifically enquired about the bicycles but these were inaccessible, stuck behind a tractor and had a flat tyre which remained un fixed all week. The owners live on site although was away when we first arrived. The pool is not heated and has no cover which probably wouldn’t normally be an issue, but after a weekend of cloud the pool didn’t get above 25 degrees till the end of the week.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect was that the owner turned up at 9am on the last day and started cleaning and was very annoyed when we were ready to leave at 10am. I had had to request confirmation of receipt when we paid the deposit and despite asking we had never been sent any joining instructions or contract beyond being told to meet at a garage. It appears we were supposed to have followed the link through to the French website where a 9am departure time is listed. She was annoyed that the dishwasher was still running, that we had borrowed two pillows from an unused (paid for) bedroom, and that we had mixed up plates from the pool kitchen with the house. I think the website comment that this is “a home not a club with staff” sums up the attitude. You may be paying for cleaning, or for a home to live in, but they don’t want you to feel at home.The deposit and some fees are paid in cash which means you have to take, and end the holiday with a lot of euros

Owner's Response: bonjour, je suis très étonnée de ce message!!!! je loue ma maison avec des agences qui viennent tous les ans voir la maison depuis 15 ans et c'est la première fois que je lis de pareil chose sur la maison, depuis février 2016, tout est rénové, ainsi que la cuisine d'été, (machine à laver la vaisselle , le linge, le frigidaire, la plancha tout est neuf) et propre, les vélos ont étaient révisés entièrement par une société de Carcès, qui sont à l'abris, oui il y a une bétonnière au fond de cet abris, mais je ne vois pas en quoi cela gène... j'ai toujours louée ma maison pour 6 personnes avec 3 chambres, vous devait le voir sur le site !!! la chambre à l'étage est toujours fermée, je ne loue la maison qu'avec 3 chambres. Les chambres donnant sur la piscine ont des tonnelles avec des vignes vierges qui grimpent chose que tous les personnes adorent. tous les four, plaques de cuissons , machine à laver ont les explications en anglais car c'est du matériels neufs, les livres sont là... je n'ai pas la piscine chauffée, ni de couverture, c'est mon droit je pense, le départ des personnes étaient à 9h30, aussi nous avons juste mis le robot de la piscine d'ailleurs avec leur accord. la caution a était rendu intégralement, toutes les personnes avant m'ont envoyées des messages merveilleux, je pense que je vais vous les envoyer, jamais jamais je n'ai eu de tels propos je vais vous faire la traduction par GOOGLE, je pense que je suis chez ownersdirect depuis si lontemps et jamais je n'ai eu de tels propos cordialement dany
