About the Owner
Hello there! Matt and Dominique Arnold here!
Well how would we describe ourselves?
Husband and wife with three lovely young children all currently under ten! The villa was owned by Matt before we got married in 2005 and was bought initially to accommodate a years literal gardening leave during a change of employers! Matt was a TV reporter with GMTV now running the family hotel in UK. We actually got married in our French village courtesy of Matt's year abroad living there and the fact that Dominique is half French. We held our reception at the villa with a meal for fifty superbly served by local caterers on the decking around the property on a really hot June day with all the younger guests (and eventually some older ones!) cooling off in the pool!
Guestbook comments from the owner
Hi Matt! Just to say we had an absolutely fabulous holiday! We'd everything we needed and were very comfortable. I didn't want to come home. It's a lovely house in a stunning location. I don't think the photos do it justice! The pool was wonderful-especially after a hot days sightseeing! I would definitely recommend your place to others. I am already planning/wondering when I can come back! Thanks again Jacqueline Lindsay
We had a wonderful time at your villa. Having two young children the quiet cul-de-sac and the secure pool meant mum and dad could relax too! The location was ideal and we hope to be back some time soon.
Thanks again. Colin, June 2009.
Matt we had a wonderful time at your villa - it is beautifully
situated at the edge of the village - quiet and peaceful - and very well equipped. The pool was wonderful. Watching the sun setting over the vineyard was a magical way to end our days. Doreen and Roger Purce June 2009.

Our stay at Agel
We have had a very nice stay at the house. It is very well located to visit the coast (ea Narbonne), to make historical visits (Carcassonne, Minerve etc) and enjoy the nature (Minervois, mountains of Haut Languedoc).
The house is equipped as described, with a magnificant pool and safe grill.

“As I had a year off between contracts I decided to buy abroad and establish a holiday home for future use! I didn't know at the time that I'd being needing it so soon as within three years of buying it we were getting married there! The area is easy to get to yet far enough away to get that guaranteed hot summer holiday feel and being pool and sun lovers that was important. It's also so genuinely peaceful with birds singing and hardly ever a car passing on the distant road. The wine is fantastic, the beaches close, the supermarkets accessible, the scenery stunning with some lovely walks into the gentle hills surrounding us. In my line of work it's a total unwind with lazy afternoons by the pool in the hammock some days or beaching it others. River swimming in Bize is a must too!”
Activity and Interests
The Med is half an hour by car and the beaches are large sandy and popular with many to choose from. (Some are naturist and these are well signed). Valras Plage is our family favourite: enjoy a wonderful day sunbathing and swimming at the beach, followed by an aperitif in one of the lovely cafes watching the sun go down over the sea and then return home for a barbeque and a cool dip in your own private pool amongst the vineyards. Bliss! There are many beaches to choose from and the Northern Spanish beaches are within easy reach too.
Between Ryanair and Easyjet you are spoiled for choice with six nearby French airports and even one in Spain! Carcassonne is the nearest at 50 mins distance by car. Perpignan is an hour away, Montpellier less than an hour and a half and Toulouse, Girona (Spain) and Nimes all less than 2 hours distance. Ryanair also fly between Bristol and Beziers which is half an hour from us.
You are peacefully remote and yet surprisingly close to all the delights the region has to offer. Narbonne Bezier and Carcassone are easily reached in forty minutes. Barcelona is only 3 hours away by car (the Spanish border is one hour from the villa) Nice Cannes and the Cote D'Azur are a four hour drive, The beautiful city of Toulouse is just a two hour trip.
Two mountain bikes are provided at the villa and the trip to Aigues-Vives for hot fresh baguette et croissants is a 3km flat early morning joy! Bring a small rucksack! You could easily get by using the local store in the same village but most people like to get to the larger supermarkets with a bigger choice. There are three within an easy drive between 10 - 15 mins and the giant superstores if you like that kind of thing are to be found half an hour away in Narbonne and Beziers, two gorgeous old cities. Despite these austere times when money is tight we are experiencing our usual high level of interest and would anticipate that summer 2016 will be every bit as busy as last year when we were completely booked throughout. To those who have not booked yet remember that June can be a really gorgeous month in this part of France and with the peak season weeks nearly always the first to go it's definitely worth a look! Happy holidays!

“Well Agel is in the country in the heart of the Minervois wine region and the reds are superb. The French Monarchy used Minervois as the Royal table wine. Best thing is that you are surrounded by the vines that produce it. They are literally on your doorstep. The pool is the kind of pool that you can really swim in, eleven metres long with a proper deep end. I'm six foot four and I designed it for me to stand in the deep end on tippy toe! I also designed a shelved seating come steps to ease your way in the pool if the big splash isn't your thing and a careful glass or two in the late evening sun sitting on the steps half in and half out is heaven but please be careful with the glass! You wont find a hand built veranda deck in hardwood like this anywhere in the world! Why not try it?”
