About the property

Cottage near L'Ametlla de Mar, Costa Dorada - Secluded private location with peaceful atmosphere.

New cottage situated in country setting amongst almond and olive groves with stunning views of surrounding mountains yet is only 3kms from the town and beaches. Set in own grounds it includes a superb wooded BBQ area and small 3.5m x 3.5m pool. The cottage has 1 double bedroom, 1 triple bedroom, living room/dining room, kitchen area and bathroom. There is a large sofa bed in the living room that could be used to sleep another 2 people. The cottage has free WiFi. The location is great for walking, cycling and there are a number of secluded beaches and fishing villages within 5km. Nearby is the River Ebro and its delta, and the historic city of Tarragona. There are also river fishing options or local horse back riding.

The cottage is fully approved and registered with the Catalonia Tourist Board as now required for all holiday locations. Make sure that any property you consider has this recognition as there is good chance that non compliant properties will have to be removed in the near future.

There is full 24 hour support on hand if you have any problems.

This area of Catalonia has managed to avoid the over commercialisation that has affected other parts of Spain. Our own house and the cottage are loacted in real countryside but in easy reach of civilisation.

Country properties in Spain offer a very good deal as surprisingly most Spanish people dream of living in towns and in appartments.

What makes this villa unique

The cottage is ideally situated in real countryside yet just a short drive to the local towns. It is a great base for exploring mountains, a beautiful coastline, the river Ebro and the historic cities of Barcelona and Tarragona.

Compact cottage in the hills. Easy to find. Within easy reach of 2 main roads so lots of day trips possible. Lovely private pool and picnic area.



The location is absolutely super and so peaceful - away from everything.

We had everything we needed and really didn't need to leave the cottage - we could just sit by the pool, barbecue, read ... but we were also able to go for some lovely walks in the surrounding hills.

Notes on accommodation: The cottage has air conditioning and full heating. Outside: Immediately outside the cottage there is a semi covered patio with table and benches. Also within the grounds available to the cottage residents there is a 3.5 metre by 3.5 metre pool and near to this is an additional picnic table, sunbeds, chairs and a bbq area all of which is for the exclusive use of the cottage residents so there is no sharing! BBQ, wooded area with exclusive use of pool (3.5 x 3.5m). Table and chairs, plus sun loungers, by pool. Own garden area and secure parking. Washing line. The outside area is for the exclusive use of cottage guests and is approximately half an acre in area. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included, but not beach towels. Towels and linen changed weekly. Property cleaned on changeover day.

un petit coin tranquille...

8 jours très sympathiques dans ce petit coin reculé au milieu des oliviers (un très beau cadre !), à mi chemin entre El Perello et l'Ametlla de Mar. Réservation de dernière minute (2 jours avant notre arrivée), que nous ne regrettons pas. Les propriétaires habitent à côté du gîte, ils sont très sympathiques, réactifs, accueillants, et discrets. La petite piscine est également appréciable. L'endroit est idéalement situé, tout se trouve à proximité (plages, commerces à 5 - 10 minutes grand maximum de l’hébergement). Tout cela nous a permis de passer un très bon séjour à 4 en famille ! Suite à notre départ, une de nos filles a oublié un objet, le propriétaire a eu la gentillesse de nous l'envoyer par courrier. Merci et peut-être à bientôt !

Enjoyable stay: wonderfully peaceful surroundings

We had a great stay at Casa Sotavento. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. They managed to hit the perfect balance between being attentive and on hand for every query, while not invading your space. (They even shared their harvest of delicious local figs which were - as accurated advised by Malcolm - amazing with goats cheese and ham.) I appreciated their relaxed attitude - as some rental owners can be overly strict with arrival/leaving times and rules.

The property was well suited for our requirements and kitted out with everything we needed. The outside pool area, and table bench outside the property, were great places to relax and take in the views.

It's well positioned for activities and places of interest. There was plenty to do in the area and would recommend trying a few of the local beaches, plus Tarragona and Miravet.

Mossies can be a pain in such rural locations and, if you have young children/babies, I'd suggest taking a mosquito net to pop over the cot. We didn't have one (a failing on our part!) and despite our best attempts with sprays etc our 15 month-old daughter was bitten each night. Although they didn't seem to cause her any discomfort.

In the run-up to the holiday, Malcolm provided all the maps and directions that we needed to find the property, which were super useful (and spot on!). He also promptly answered any queries that we emailed to him.

All in all - a very enjoyable stay in wonderfully peaceful surroundings!

Family holiday in Spain.

A lovely little cottage set off the beaten track in a quiet peaceful location. The owners were really helpful giving useful tips and places to visit nearby. The children loved cooling off in the pool while we could relax on the patio. The seaside town of L' Ametlla de Mar was close by offering lovely resturants, and shops. A lovely first trip to Spain.

what a wonderful and special place !

Just back from having spent a week at the cottage, what a gem ! We loved the peaceful and beautiful landscape surrounding the cottage, the little walk through the trees to the pool, sitting out watching the magical sunsets, the warm and friendly welcome and assistence we received from Malcolm and Suzanne, the lovely well equipped little cottage, I could go on and on ! Also we stayed there

without a car, walked into the village and used taxis and trains. A visit to Tarragona is a must. Thank you Malcolm and Suzanne for everything.

Mountain tranquility

When we were looking for a rental property in the area, we decided we wanted to be away from the towns, for two weeks of peace and quiet. We also wanted easy access to the Ebro Delta and the Zaragoza Steps for our birdwatching sorties and we chose well. We were close enough to the N340 to be able to access everywhere we wanted to visit, yet far enough from civilisation to be able to completely relax without distractions. The property was ideal for the three of us and the garden and veranda were perfect for chilling out after a busy day out and about.

We had no trouble filling two weeks with plenty to do within a car journey. As well as our birding trips, we visited many local town and villages (both on the coast and inland). Miravet, Els Ports National Park and Tarragona are al must and I would recommend a 45 minute train journey from L'Amettla de Mar for the latter. If you are a thrill seeker, Port Adventura is 45 minutes drive away, although there is also a dedicated railway station, which you call also access from L'Amettla de Mar. If the beach is more your thing, there are many isolated coves and larger beachs both North and South of L'Amettla de Mar, all easily reached within 20 to 25 minutes.

Our hosts Malcolm and Suzanne were very attentive, without crowding us in any way and their visits were always well timed and entertaining and their local knowledge was invaluable.

In summary, this is great value for money let which we would recommend.

What more could you want......

Its our 2nd time staying at the Cottage. Firstly, October 2012 then June this year. The cottage is set in a tranquil peaceful position and has everything you could possibly need for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Local beaches are great and there's plenty of restaurants if you like eating out. We were happy to stay put most evenings and used the BBQ several times.

We're just waiting for next years flights to be published and then will book again.

You won't be disappointed.

There is a fast and efficient train service from Barcelona and Tarrgona, stopping at L'Ametlla de Mar.

Distances:

L'Ametlla de Mar is a small fishing village with shops, supermarkets, restaurants and bars, 4kms from the cottage. Inland, 2kms away is a typical Catalan village, El Perello, again with all amenities. Tarragona and Barcelona are a short train ride away, and Port Aventura is half an hour along the motorway. The River Ebro delta is about 10kms away.

Further Details:

All shops, restaurants and banks are easily reached by car. There are many places of historical interest in the locality as the region has a remarkable Roman and Medieval legacy. The Ebro Delta is famous for its fishing and birdwatching, and the El Ports natural mountain park offers suberb walking or biking opportunities. Sailing trips can be locally arranged, as can horseback riding in the local countryside. Port Aventura and the Caribe Aquatic Park will keep the young at heart happy, whilst those preferring more tranquil activities may enjoy a guided tour of the famous local vineyards (including tasting) or a walk along the Cistercian monastic route.
