Holiday Flat in Porto, Costa Verde, Portugal - Fishing Village, Port Cellars, Historic Porto

The flat is out by the beaches and the mouth of the Douro River (southern side). It’s a relaxing place, with walkways, cycle tracks, cool beach bars and good seafood restaurants.

From the flat you can walk straight down to a 15km stretch of white-sand blue-flag beaches. Or you can head along the scenic river walkway/cycle track/road, past Douro Marina (a chance to sail or kayak), then Afurada fishing village (with typical seafood restaurants) and onto the Port cellars and historic centre of Porto. Nearby, there's a charming ferryboat which crosses over to the north bank of the river.

Views are of the river, pine forests and fields. It's very quiet and peaceful. There's a shared garden and barbecue area downstairs. The flat is spacious, modern and fully-equipped, on the 1st floor with an elevator and space in the garage for 1 car.

The apartment is popular with families and friends, plus couples and individuals. Both short-term and long-term rentals are possible. A friendly and helpful manageress lives just around the corner. All in all, much better than staying in one of the busy central city hotels!

I'm English and work in the wine trade. I lived in Porto for a few years, when I was a sales and marketing director for one of the Port wine houses. I love the outdoors, sports and travel. My apartment was a great base for work and for being by the beaches, walkways and cycle tracks. At weekends and holidays, I went off exploring different parts of Portugal and Spain. Since leaving Porto, my apartment has been available for guests from abroad.

“What a fantastic time we had in Porto and in your apartment. It was in a perfect location and so easy to get into Porto. We took the car and went for a day up the Douro which was beautiful. We fell in love with Porto and would hope to revisit it some time in the future and would certainly think about your apartment. The walk to the beach was really easy and the bars and people were fantastic. My brother only ever goes to France, but Porto has converted him.”

Ideal location.

Alex was great to deal with. Always replied immediately to emails and was accommodating with our request for an extra set of keys. The apartment was very clean and Rosa, who manages the property greeted us warmly with lots of helpful information.

Great location as 5 minutes walk from amazing beaches and either a good walk into the centre of Porto, or, buses from outside the apartment.

Would highly recommend Alex's flat. It was great for us, a mature (!) couple, traveling wanting to meet up with family from other areas of Europe.

Excellent location

Large apartment, well equiped , even to beach essentials.Balcony can seat 6 and looks over the small nature reserve, across the Duoro to Porto. One minute to sea front then 9 miles of beaches with good cafe/bars doing food and drink.

Just a 15 minute bus ride to Porto, and 1 to 2 hour drive to great areas of the Green Coast.Small shop 100 mtrs with basics but 5 minute bus to Canidelo with everything you need.

This was our favourite rent (over last 8 years) as the location suited our style of holiday, with a really good apartment

Joli appartement, bien équipé et agréable . Par contre, assez bruyant â cause des avions. Quartier très sympa, petit restaurant local à 100m, mer â 200m avec ses bars et restaurant..Accès â Porto facile en longeant le Douro.

I bought my apartment in Porto when I was working in the Port wine cellars between 2002 and 2005. I love the fact that it is a modern and spacious apartment and in a quiet location by the sea and the river, while being only a 10 minute drive into the historic center. Around the apartment there are lots of little cafés and beach-side restaurants and large supermarkets are within easy reach. Best of both worlds in a way, and a combination that guests have also enjoyed.

100m to beaches and river. The beaches are very clean, certified as blue-flag. Along both the beaches and river, there are walkways and cycle tracks. Bike hire is reasonable. Surfing is possible at Paredão, Espinho and Matosinhos. Cool beach bars and good local style restaurants. Douro Marina nearby has sailing/ boating tours, charters and courses, as well as kayak and paddleboard rentals.


Porto airport is 20km away. Taxi 25-30 euros. Local bus just outside the flat which goes into town (or taxi in 5 minutes: 10 euros). Walkways and cycle tracks along the coast and river. Little ferry every half hour from Afurada across to Foz and northern side of river. Car is only necessary if you want more flexibility or want to explore further afield.


Closest local bars, restaurants, small supermarket 50-100m.

Porto historic centre and Port cellars 3km. Porto airport 20km.
