About the Owner

Hello and welcome! Our family have always loved coming to Norfolk. We have spent many happy holidays enjoying both glorious summer days and blustery windswept winter weekends on the beach We have recently refurbished our much loved second home in Old Hunstanton and had great fun in doing it, the house now has all mod cons. This property is not only deceptively spacious but has great views over the coast. We live in Bedford so within 2 hours we can be at the house. It is a world away from everyday life and a real stress buster! We love the area because we are in close proximity to Burnham Market, Holkham, and many other lovely villages. We enjoy eating out and have been very impressed with not only the wide choice but also the excellent standard of the pubs and restaurants in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Since we started renting the house we have had a wonderful reaction to the house. These are left in the guest book that you can see on your arrival. I wonder whether your comment will match these from last year?

Great house, perfect position, lovely area. I feel very relaxed as a result

Fantastic Holiday Property

  • 5 of 5

Although things have not been good since returning from our Holiday hence the tardiness of my review we had a fantastic time at La Hat. The accommodation is first class extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. It is bright clean and very spacious. The location is out of this world, out of the garden gate and you are on the beach which is huge and has lots of birds when the tide is out, the dog was in seventh heaven. There is a small shop and several restaurants in Old Hunstanton with more being available in Hunstanton which is within easy walking distance by road or beach if the tides out. Holkham Wells are a short drive. We had one day of very heavy rain but it was just lovely to sit and watch the world go by from the dinning room. La Hat is in our top 5 holidays and we will be back.

As a family of three generations we have stayed at this beautiful house for many years now and we all adore it.Our children have made many special memories here growing up and every year we begin January with our countdown to the "Beach house".Its just perfect. As a child I spent many holidays in Hunstanton with its beautiful sunsets and this place is just a great setting to run down to the sea and enjoy those amazing sights.Thank you for everything! The Boyce family

Fabulous - 10 out of 10!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stay in Norfolk, a family week away (3 generations + Poppy the dog) to celebrate Mum's 80th birthday, we could not have chosen better. La Hat is comfortable, spacious and in the most wonderful location, a perfect base. The views from the rear of the house across the dunes and past the beach huts are picture postcard. Walk out of the back gate and the sand is under your feet, great for the kids to explore and play or for us adults to take in a long walk with the dog - we often did this at sunrise, deserted and magical and then back for a big breakfast because we'd earned it. There is lots to do and see in North Norfolk but equally you could easily park the car for a week, wander locally, catch the Coast hopper bus to explore further afield or just relax and go home feeling refreshed. The house is well equipped for self-catering but, there are some great dining options on the doorstep not to be missed - we can recommend them all. Thanks Charles & Annette for sharing your lovely home, we had the perfect week (including the weather), we didn't want to leave and like many before us, we can't wait to come back!

Owner's Response: Thanks Celia, We are delighted that you enjoyed your week at La Hat, and you are right, there is so much to do, and yet right out of the back door there is THAT beach and THOSE long walks. Glad that Poppy enjoyed it as well. Come back soon! Annette and Charles

Ditto

  • 5 of 5

What can you say about La Hat that has not been said already all we can repeat is ditto to everything. Lovely large house and fantastic position. We had three generations so were able to escape to the upper room whilst the little ones had plenty of room on the ground floor. Three very little ones from one to three had the most wonderful time, bug hunting and flying kites on the dunes just through the back gate and then on to the beach for shrimping and digging excavations. Everyone without fail absolutely loved the whole experience and want to do it again. Small children were so tired after such busy days that they slept like logs in a nice quiet bedroom area. One complaint do the birds have to be so happy and wake you so early?!!! No that was great too. The dog also had a lovely time and after one day could find his way "home".

Final word and only if you have visited this magical place will you understand and that is the "Wise Old Tree" was adored by the children and they immediately obeyed his commands ie wash hands, go to bed etc.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Jenny, we are glad you enjoyed La Hat. Also we are pleased the "Wise Old Tree" has been living up to his usual standards. The only issue is if he was able to point you to the door where the little pixies live! For those coming on behind you will have to look hard to find it! Come back soon - La Hat will have a warm welcome back. Annette and Charles

Just wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Our second visit to Old Hunstanton, first to La Hat - and we were not disappointed, what a find. Amazing to be able to walk one minute over the sand dunes to the beach, to watch the sunset from the living room over a glass of wine. Our whole family including our two little boys were immediately at home in the house - comfortable, spacious, well looked after and very clean, with everything we needed. There is so much to do along the North Norfolk coast - deserted beaches, nature reserves, fantastic pubs. We are already planning our next visit. Thank you Annette and Charles.

Great place to get away from it all

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house, although it sleeps eight there is plenty of room for everyone. Garden with large raised deck area, great for barbecues. Fantastic views overlooking the sea, beach goes on forever, beautiful sunsets. If golf is your thing, course is two minutes walk away.

Small shop and post office a few minutes walk away. More shops and Sainsburys ten minutes drive away in Hunstanton.

Several good places to eat and drink in Old Hunstanton, all within walking distance of La Hat. Great cafe on the beach, next to lifeboat station, for breakfast and light lunches. Area is very dog friendly, lots of places allow dogs in.

Plenty of places to visit only a short drive away, Sandringham, Kings Lynn, Holkham Hall to name but a few.

One of the best places we have stayed at in Norfolk. We liked it so much we have already booked for next year.

Location

From the Owner

We bought a property in North Norfolk because so many of our happiest memories stem from here. A place with huge expanses of stunning beaches; pretty Norfolk villages with cottages build in flint and brick; the market towns of Holt and Burnham Market with their boutique shops; the farm shops and artisan producers and a mass of fabulous places to eat. We had spent enough time in Norfolk to know that it is just as special in the snow, the wind, or a spectacular thunderstorm as it is on a hot balmy day – you just need to you just need to be prepared for all eventualities (including sunbathing on the beach at Easter in 2011!).The pace of life is slower here which means we come away feeling relaxed and more refreshed.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

North Norfolk has many activities including fantastic bird watching, great nature walks, Norfolk churches, ancesteral homes such as Sandringham and Holkom and a plethora of markets and wonderful produce to buy and cook.

Coast/Beach:

Literally 1 minute from walking out of the back door down over the dunes you will be on the enormous and wide Hunstanton Beach. Even on the busiest of days the space is huge and provides a great place to walk with your thoughts or your loved ones!

Travel:

Stansted Airport is 1.5hrs drive.

Kings Lynn is the nearest Train station - 45mins from Cambridge

Distances:

You can walk or drive to many of attractions. The following are approximate drive times:

Hunstanton 5 minutes

Burnham Market 20 Minutes

Kings Lynn 30 Minutes

Norwich 1 Hour

The Coast hopper bus service - serves all the villages on the coast road and is a reliable and great value option to get to all the lovely beaches and villages.
