Property

Updated: 16-Nov-2016
Gorgeous 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom chalet offering full and part occupancy, in the gorgeous Abondance Valley

Chalet Pelerin, surrounded by the Chablais mountains, is situated midway between Abondance and La Chapelle d'Abondance and just a few minutes from Chatel. The chalet is just 75 minutes from Geneva with easy access to the Portes du Soleil which, with 650km of pistes, incorporates 14 resorts including Chatel, Avoriaz, Torgon, Champery, Morgins, Morzine and Les Gets.

It is a great base for either a winter or summer holiday as a place to relax and enjoy beautiful scenery. Abondance/Chatel is a true dual season resort, with extensive skiing and boarding in the winter, and walking, climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, kayaking, rafting and fishing in the summer.

The chalet has been designed in typical Savoyard style over 3 floors, covering 170 sq.m., featuring a large open plan lounge and dining area including leather sofas and solid oak dining room furniture, a fully fitted oak kitchen and separate utility area and fully furnished south-facing terrace overlooking the valley and River Dranse directly below.

There are 6 beautifully appointed bedrooms, (3 doubles and 3 twins), sleeping up to 13 guests with 4 bathrooms including 3 en-suite.

Please note that all prices are based on full occupancy. Partial occupancy bookings and discounts are also available (other than for Christmas, New Year and February half term weeks) which vary according to party size. As a guide assume a 20% discount for the use of a maximum of 4 bedrooms but please contact us to discuss your requirements.

About the Owner

Hi - we are Paul and Marian, John and Julie - neighbours in Lancashire, travel companions and joint owners of Chalet Pelerin. We first skied together in 2003 at a time when we were thinking about buying a holiday home and the idea of a ski chalet emerged over the next year. We settled in 2005 on the beautiful Abondance valley and the magnificent Portes du Soleil and moved in on 6 February 2006. We wanted to create a large ski chalet for rental that was also a home from home - and we think we've made a pretty decent job of it. We visit as often as we can in groups large and small to ski, walk, cycle, swim and recharge the batteries in this most peaceful, gorgeous and relaxing setting. And practice our rubbish French.

Super week end a Abondance

  • 5 of 5

Wow!!! This chalet is a fabulous home from home!!!

  • 5 of 5

Well what can I say other than this chalet is perfect in every way, the detail that the owners have put in is very impressive everything has been thought about all you need to do is arrive and enjoy the spectacular views and scenery.

The chalet is managed and maintained to the highest standards and for anyone looking this would be the best decision you make by booking this chalet by far!

I have just returned after having a week there with a small family party and already looking to get the next visit in place (missing it already) the location is perfect for access to ski resorts etc and some lovely places to dine and browse at your leisure.

Thank you for the best holiday and sharing this beautiful home with us and we look forward to staying there in the near future.

ideal for a family ski holiday !

  • 4 of 5

Chalet Pelerin was easy to find, in a good location for accessing all amenities. Short trip in a car to the ski slopes which link in to the whole Portes du Soleil region. We are intermediate skiers who skied every day till the lifts closed and we were still skiing on new slopes on the last day, fantastic ! The chalet is warm (the log burning stove is superb) and the wood is supplied. The beds are comfortable and everything you need is supplied to a good standard. I would definitely recommend this chalet to a friend. The amount of information supplied about restaurants, skiing was impressive and really helpful. I would recommend the Richard Sport shop in Chatel for equipment - the best we have ever had. We had 2 lovely meals, a pizza in La Chapelle d'Abondance, the restaurant was very rustic - you eat at long tables, but great food and service. The adults ate at Les Gentianettes, again in La Chapelle - superb french food ( a bit pricey, hence children not invited), but a real treat. Although it was half term and very busy (particularly in Chatel on the Saturday, when everyone is frantically trying to pick up their skis), we found quiet slopes and it was easy to park (free of charge) at the ski lifts. All in all a great holiday and we will return !

Well equipped and spacious Chalet near slopes

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet is more spacious that the ones in resort and is very well equipped for a couple of families or maybe more. We used a very good recommended taxi service to take us out in the evenings but the drive to the towns and slopes is very easy. Chappelle Abondance is exceptional skiing for beginners/ 2nd time skiers and from there you can directly link up to the more challenging skiing in Chatel. There are lots of good restaurants close by and I imagine lots to do in the summer months as well. The Chalet is arguably better suited to hiring a car/ self drive. We had a great stay.

A fantastic chalet in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived and found the property to be very well presented with excellent facilities. Decor was tasteful and the chalet felt like home from home. The owners had thought of everything and we had all the equipment we needed including a wide range of cooking equipment, plenty of towels and even a few items of

food and drink left in the fridge for us! The local village was very attractive and we visited the boulangerie most mornings to get our croissants and bread. The surrounding area had plenty to see and do and was visually stunning. The owners were very helpful when booking the chalet and we have already recommended it to our close friends. We hope to return in the near future as this was an excellent base for exploring the French Alps.

Super holiday and amazing chalet

  • 5 of 5

This is my fifth stay in the chalet. I have stayed when the chalet has been full and also in smaller groups, and it always surpasses my expectations.

The chalet is very clean and has all the home comforts required, that one may not have in a ski in ski out apartment. The kitchen is large enough to cook for 13 people. The open plan lounge dining area is amazing for relaxing evenings after a day on the slopes.

The decor in the chalet is truly something unique with the photographs and film posters adding great character to the place.

In addition to the lovely bedrooms with en suit bathrooms, there is a garage to store skis and a drying room for ski boots and clothes etc.

The area is great for skiing. Abondance is 5 mins drive away and has some great tree lined runs. 20 mins away is chatel and is a gateway to the Port du Soleil. It has miles and miles of runs and you can be out all day and never do the same run twice. It has all categories of runs and suits both notice and experienced skiers / boarders.

I would definitely recommend a holiday in this chalet and with any luck I will return next year.

Location

From the Owner

Abondance is a proper farming village with a lovely square which functions all year round unlike some ski areas which are ghost towns out of season. It's easy to reach from Geneva and is only 30 mins from Evian and Thonon on the lake. The Sunday market is terrific. The skiing area is vast, varied (from the very quiet to the very busy), reliable and has benefitted from millions of euros in investment. Traditional alpine farming skills are still in evidence and whilst you can't move for tourists in many alpine areas in the summer these beautiful mountains can virtually be all yours. The autumn colours are dazzling.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Geneva at 70 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Evian at 20 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Abondance/La Chapelle at 2 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Abondance at 2 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Montreux at 20 Kilometres Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

Why not enjoy some spring mountain walking or the beautiful autumn Alpine colours?

Coast/Beach:

The chalet is just 30 mins drive from Lake Geneva including the spa towns of Evian and Thonon in France or Montreux and Lausanne in Switzerland, all of which have spectacular lakeside swimming facilities. There is a fabulous swimming leisure centre near Montreux, a brand new swimming complex in Chatel, a spa centre near Chambery and 2 white-water rafting centres nearby. There are regular sailings across Lake Geneva.

Travel:

Fly to Geneva Airport then an easy 75 minute drive (45 miles) to the chalet. There are many UK operators from several UK airports, including BA, easyJet, Jet2 and Swissair. Alternative airports include Chambery (2 hrs) Basel (2½ hrs) or Lyon (3 hrs).

All main car hire companies operate from these airports. Overland the chalet is an 8 hour drive from Calais (560 Miles). A car is highly recommended.

Distances:

The ancient village of Abondance is 2 mins by car or a 20 minute walk along the river bank (which is also used for cross country skiing). The 14th century abbey is worth a visit. The nearest town, Chatel, is 15 mins by car.

Further Details:

Abondance village square is quietly situated off the main road. A wide range of services are available in the village including restaurants, cafes, small supermarket, boulangerie, patisserie, boucherie, delicatessen, pharmacy, banks, post office, ski shops and local speciality shops. There are also many restaurants along the valley and recommendations are included in the welcome pack.

Spring/Summer/Autumn activities include: walking and mountain biking with many waymarked trails along the valleys and into the peaks, with overnight refuges. The ski lifts are adapted in the summer for bike transportation to the peaks. The fast flowing Dranse becomes a white-water rafting centre (only 15 mins from the chalet). Chatel has its own pool and spa centre. There are numerous beaches on Lake Geneva and fabulous 50m pools and lidos in Evian, Thonon and Morzine. Rockclimbing. Fishing. Equestrian and trekking. Paragliding. “Fantasticable” high-wire from the top of the Rochassons ski lift at Pre la Joux/Pierre Longue.

Cultural, sightseeing and touring opportunities include: The beautiful spa towns of Thonon and Evian (30 mins) and Geneva (60 mins) all of which offer long lakeside walks where roller-blading is particularly popular and you can hire a boat or take one of the many cruisers on or around the lake. The medieval town of Yvoir (40 mins) which sits on a promontory of the lake between Thonon and Geneva. Montreaux (45 mins). The beautiful town of Annecy (90 mins) sitting at the northern tip of the lake of the same name. Mont Blanc and Chamonix (90 mins). Les Dents du Midi (70 mins). Simply drive into the mountains to watch the sun go down with an aperitif in one of the many mountain restaurants or do nothing but relax with many accessible health spas, wonderful restaurants and beautiful countryside.

Facilities

From the Owner

The chalet is equipped with all the comforts of home to a very high standard - including a fully stocked kitchen (it is very rare that we are asked for something that is not provided), free wifi, a 40 inch TV (and 2 smaller ones) and a large selection of games, music and DVDs. We offer a very personal approach to all our clients, including flexible booking dates, to ensure you have all you need well in advance and an excellent chalet manager to look after any problems during your stay. We provide a comprehensive info pack in advance and in the chalet and guidance on how to get the best of the facilities - but very few rules. We like to think that if we look after our guests they will look after our home. A recent guest commented that they had never stayed in the same place twice before staying at ours.
