Praia da Luz or Beach of Light is situated on the Western Algrave and boasts one of the finest beaches and promades in the region. The property is situated near the heart of the village and allows easy access to the beach, bars, restaurants, golf courses, tennis courts etc which are within walking distance. In addition the nearby town of Lagos (3km) is steeped in maritime history and boasts some of the most beautiful cobbled streets and old buildings you will see in the whole of Portugal. Furthermore Lagos enjoys a long and sandy beach and marina as well as many shops, bars, resturants and markets. The Western Algrave enjoys easy access from Faro airport as the A22 motorway will bring you all the way to Lagos so there are no long transfers when you leave the airport. Also dotted along the A22 are water parks, marine zoos etc which offer excellent entertainment for all ages and at very reasonable costs.

About The Owner

Hi there, we are Marie & Eddie and we would like to thank you for taking the time to view our holiday home. We have two children and spend all of our annual leave in Praia da Luz as we feel there is no other place we would rather be. We had our first holiday in Luz in 2005 and returned the following year and ended up buying our own holiday home here and we have been going back ever since. Our kids love the town from the excellent pools at Vila Serena, the local beaches, the numerous tennis courts nearby, golf, water sports which all add up to offer something for everybody. Also the town centre is less than 10 minutes walk away but there are closer bars and restaurants within two minutes walk, these include the Belavista Hotel, Hugo Beatty restaurant and the City Sol Chinese restaurant.

Why The Owner chose Luz

We feel that Luz has it all. From a long sandy beach to a laid back town where the pace is slow. In addition we enjoy running & hiking as well as mountain biking in which we are spoilt for choice for different routes both on and off road right along the coast just feet from the Atlantic Ocean. Furthermore the location of Luz offers easy access to other fantastic towns and villages such as Burgau, Salema, Lagos and Sagres as well as numerous beaches up and down the western Algarve just waiting to be explored. Lastly the locals welcome all visitors warmly and you will feel right at home the second you arrive: but don't take our word for it come and see for yourself!

What makes this villa unique

Our villa offers a full range of services from maid service, management service, transfers, car hire etc to being child friendly (to include stair gates, cot, steriliser, high chair, pool & beach toys). We also offer fully equipped terraces which include very high quality sun beds, sofas, webber BBQ, dining tables. On the sun terrace (where on a evening it can be very relaxing enjoying a glass of wine watching the sun go down and the moon rising over the ocean) you will find more sun beds and a dining table and chairs and parasol. In addition we offer three bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as a dishwasher, washing machine, safe, use of mountain bikes, car port, Sky TV (limited channels), key safe all available at no extra charge.

Location

Coast/Beach:

Praia da Luz is 10 minutes walk from the villa with other fine beaches situated in Burgau (5 minutes drive) and Sagres (25 minutes drive) nearby. There are many other beaches situated along the coast waiting to be discovered.

Travel:

The villa is appox 50 minutes from Faro airport by car. Transfers and car hire can be arranged at an extra cost.

Distances:

Lagos is 5 minutes by car, Sargres 25 minutes by car, Faro 50 minutes by car, Burgau 5 minutes by car.

Notes on accommodation: Please note that the WiFi, safe, cot, high chair, stair gates, steriliser and safe are all provided free of charge (please request when booking). Welcome packs and airport transfers can be arranged at an extra cost. The property also offers a meet and greet service. Outside: Exit from living room onto furnished (to include two seater sofa, arm chair, coffee table. an emu table and 4 chairs and two sun loungers and webber BBQ), patio and small private garden which leads to the communal pool and mature garden area. Please note that access to the pool area, wc and pool showers is by key pad code which will be supplied. In addition this property offers a furnished breakfast terraced off the master bedroom and a fully furnished sun terrace with table, 4 chairs, two sun loungers and parasol. Utility Room: Large understair storage will accommodate the storage of golf clubs, pool toys, air beds etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property offers a weekly maid service (extra cleaning can be arranged at an extra cost) with towel and bedlinen changed once a week. Great place to stay.

Really enjoyed our time at Vila Serena.

Great pool and lovely surroundings. The villa was very nice with all the regular requirements provided.

Nice walk down to the centre of Luz and the local supermarket (Baptista) dose free food deliveries.

The local Indian restaurant is very good and the Hotel Bellavista is good for a quite lunch.

Overall, we had a very good holiday here and would reccommed.

Gorgeous location and property - pool definitely a huge plus

We have just had a brilliant 2 weeks at the Villa Serena in Luz. The house is fantastic- big and with all the facilities you could need in holiday and well furnished. The property itself is set with 15 others and an amazing shared pool which is never busy - Almost like having your own private pool a lot of the time!! Would definitely come back here again.

Fantastic short break at this villa with siblings

We arranged a surprise trip to Praia da Luz for my sisters big birthday. Host Eddie was extremely helpful offering advice on restaurants to dine at and also with directions and access to the villa. As we arrived late he arranged a much appreciated welcome pack which Fiona kindly delivered. Villa facilities and location absolute great, we really enjoyed sitting out on the patio sharing a bottle of wine on the comfortable seating provided The pool area was really lovely and very private. Great time had by all and look forward to a return trip

Never again!

I have just returned from a week in this villa and would definitely not recommend it as the facilities described,  which influenced our decision to rent it, were not available.

There was no WiFi and the television didn't work. My daughter had contacted the owner the previous week regarding the TV as she had her 2 year old with her and would be spending nights in and she was assured everything was fine yet it now seems that he knew there were problems. 

There were only 2 sunbeds for 4 adults and we were told that the other 2, along with the two seater settee from outside, were away to be repaired.  Surely this is something which should be done when there are no paying guests in the villa.

The safe was broken.

Although being advertised as a three bed villa, there is only 2 proper bedrooms as the third downstairs bedroom is actually a hallway converted into a bedroom, with a curtain covering the front door and double glass panelled doors into kitchen and a single glass panelled door to living area which does not give privacy.

I emailed the owner on the first day about problems but conveniently for him he was not able to receive my emails.  I find this strange as when dealing with booking and payment he had no problem receiving my emails.

On a more positive note the complex itself is lovely with well tended gardens and a beautiful pool area.

I have been holidaying in Luz annually for the past 10 years and this is the first negative review I have ever had to write.

Owner's Response: Firstly there was an issue with the wifi. It was reported to the supplier who attended but could not address the problem. He called again a couple of days later but was refused access by the guest in question. I compensated the guest due to the fact the wifi was not working. The issue has now been addressed and the wifi system is fully functional. regarding contact from the guests daughter. The guests daughter did make contact to enquire if the TV had a USB port. it was confirmed that the TV had a USB port. This was the only contact from the guest's daughter prior to the guest arriving at the villa. With regards to the patio sofa and sun beds. The furniture was with the upholster for repairs. Unfortunately the sun beds could not be repaired in time for the guest. However the guest advised the local agent that this was not an issue. Therefore it was agreed not to supply temporary replacements. The patio sofa was in situ during the guests stay. Concerning the downstairs bedroom. There are 16 villas in the complex all with the same downstairs bedroom. It is located next to the kitchen but also allows easy access to the downstairs shower room/WC. Of all the guests I have had over the years nobody has made a complaint or raised an issue regarding this bedroom. If fact some guests prefer to have a bedroom on the ground floor. lastly the safe was and still is in prefect working order. To conclude we acknowledged the issues with the wifi and had it up and working as soon as possible. As mentioned the guest was compensated as a result and we were advised by the local agent the guest was quite happy with the response. We accept that we fell short off the standards we set for our clients and we did everything possible to rectify the problem. As mentioned a complete new wifi system has been installed in the villa.

Uninspiring

Stayed until new years day. Very quiet, just the way we like it. It does appear that every thing around Luz and the Algarve is geared towards the peak season. The villa was OK. I shall advise anyone who wants to stay at this Villa to tread carefully when dealing with the landlord as two weeks after our stay he still has not returned our breakage deposit. Making every excuse or telling every lie in the book.

Owner's Response: This guest travelled back from Portugal on New Years day. He was made aware that due the holidays the property would not have been checked for at least five days after his departure and was happy with this. Property was found in good order. What he does not mention is that he supplied the wrong bank details to me and as a result I could not return his breakages deposit on time. Once I received the correct bank details from this guest his breakages deposit was returned in full the same day.
