Good outside, a little disappointing inside

There's a lot that's good about these houses but a few small things improved would really make a difference.

On the plus side - the pool and gardens are both generous and well maintained. We and our kids loved them. Loads of space for running around safely and kicking a ball. There is an elderly trampoline which still does the job very well. The tennis court is fine for small kids but the surface is such that anyone interested in a "proper" game couldn't use it - just too uneven.

Ty Braz is big, the bedrooms are great and the bathrooms fine. The kitchen table would comfortably sit 18! There is a profusion of cutlery, plates, kitchen appliances etc but many of them are a bit shabby, some don't work and it feels like a long accumulated collection. There are very few wall sockets which was an ongoing nusiance. The kitchen was reasonably clean but felt like it hadn't been used in a long time. Small irritations were that the oven door doesn't open fully - the (great) large fridge is in the way - and the locks on both the front and back doors were decidedly dodgy and took quite a bit of persuading to work. Numerous drawers had info on touristy things to do but he information was often a couple of years out of date and was randomly scattered. While it may be reasonably common in France I find it disappointing to arrive and find a house without so much as a bar of soap or square of toilet-paper!

In terms of interactions with the owners - we had none at all. That didn't bother us but was unusual. We don't know whether they lived in one of the adjoining houses or not. Someone dropped in to look at the fusebox but they didn't appear to be the owner and that was our only visitor. There was no guest book.

Languidic - the local village - is lovely and the breadshops fantastic. You are only 2km from the Blavet river - paradise for children to cycle alongside - and the local area is nice and the coast only about 25 minutes away.

We enjoyed our stay but wouldn't go back. The house has a lot of the fundamentals right but needs upgrading. Outside was better than we had expected. The area is lovely.

It wouldn't take that much to improve the house and that

Visited Ty Braz for a week in July 2014 as two families with three children and a baby. The cottages and sizeable grounds are very pretty and outside facilities were fantastic for the kids. Inside the property was spotlessly clean and there was every appliance and utensil that you could need. The bedrooms were a decent size and the modern bathrooms were very nice. The owners were very helpful in suggesting places for us to visit and booking a game of golf for us. In order to make this property even better we felt the kitchen area and downstairs toilet could do with updating. Our only issue was with the flies but judging by the whole aisle in the supermarket dedicated to fly sprays and deterrents etc this is a local problem and the owners supplied extra fly papers as soon as we asked.

I rented this house for Christmas with my wife and children. Upon arrival, we discovered with pleasure chocolates and christmas tree. the house was clean and warm. The owners answered our questions. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking the evening of Christmas and the bathrooms were new (we were the first to use them). The rooms are medium in size and comfortable. The weather was very bad but owners leave us dvds and games . we enjoyed visiting the coast of Quiberon with the raging sea

We stayed in the largest of the 3 properties, Ty Braz.

The good points were that the bedrooms were a good size, the space downstairs was great considering we had 3 little ones with us.

The bad points were that at that time the area was infested with flies. We were expected to supply our own fly paper and we had bought 3 boxes by the end of holiday; the previous renters had lost our key to the pool, so it took 4 days to be able to get a key and a swim. We requested a stairgate and the one they supplied us with was stuck so it had to secured weigh extra wood, which came down on one of the kids on the first time of using it.

If you use this cottage make sure you take any childproofing extras yourself.

Owner's Response: We were disappointed to read Lou's comments particularly when other guests, during the summer season, have commented on how much they'd enjoyed their holiday. Regrettably there was a big problem this year with flies, not only at Domaines de Lauries, but all over Southern Brittany. To combat this we placed fly killing adhesive discs on various windows in each property and an additional spray next to the sink. Unfortunately this year, with the exceptionally hot weather, these methods were insufficient. We don't like using the adhesive band type because they look ugly and people are reluctant to remove them once they are filled. The properties are in a rural location and unfortunately flies are not something we cannot control precisely. We are confused by the comment concerning the pool. Unfortunately the previous renters had lost both keys. We told Lou how to use the gate without using a key which can be done using both hands. For safety reasons we usually tell guests to use a key. We visited the property again the next day and they were using the pool, hence our confusion. Stairgate - Again we are confused by Lou's comments. The piece of wood in question is used to protect the wall when the stairgate is installed. The stairgate screws into the wood either side of the stair opening. It is very difficult to move the stairgate once installed but I accept not impossible. Nothing was mentioned about this incident and we would have course dealt with it immediately if it had been. During the week, on various occasion we asked Lou and the rest of her group, if everything was alright and each time everything was fine. We don't speak very good English, but enough to make ourselves understood. As with all our guests it's important to us that they have an enjoyable stay and we wish Lou and the rest of her party had raised these issues at the time.
