Cottage in Vamos, Nr. Chania, Crete - Peaceful Location, 10 Minute Walk to Village Centre

A great opportunity to stay in an original Cretan house dating back over 200 years. The house has been beautifully restored to offer a unique holiday villa and retains many original features such as stone archways, wooden stairway and ceilings. The modern, sophisticated furnishings add style and total ease of living while the maturing trees offer total privacy for the swimming pool. The great bonus is that the Vamos village centre is only a 10 minute walk. The village offers tavernas, a bakery, butcher, post office and a health centre and there several beaches and coves within a 10 minute drive. Located equal distance between Rethymnon and Chania, providing the perfect base from which to explore the other areas of the island.

'We found the villa extremely comfortable and relaxing. The pool area was lovely, especially for lunches under the trees and it was lovely to breakfast on the downstairs terrace and wake up slowly under the vines. The villa is very well equipped and everything in the kitchen was easy to use, with lots of space. All the appliances are of good quality, as are the furnishings, with many tasteful extras, which make one feel at home. The master bedroom with en suite bathroom is very spacious and the bed very comfortable. We would have no hestiation in staying at Fig Tree Villa in the future.' Laraine + Hugh, UK

The beaches of Kalyves, Almyrida and Georgioupolis can all be reached within a 10 min drive. All have facilities within easy reach and provide gentle shelving sand for safer bathing.


Chania airport 40 mins drive. Chania airport has fewer airlines that offer flights direct, but is closer to the villa on arrival. Heraklion airport 90 mins drive. Has a larger selection of airlines and the drive from Heraklion is made easier by the National Highway. Detailed driving instructions are available from both airports to the villa.


10 min walk to village centre of Vamos. 10 mins drive to Kalyves. 30 min drive to centre of Chania. 35 min drive to centre of Rethymnon. There are several other interesting villages in the area of Apokoronas all worth visiting and many of them have kafenions and tavernas.

The village of Vamos is the cultural and agricultural centre of the Apokoronas and therefore has many facilities including: Super local restaurants, doctor, chemist, dentist, post office, telephone centre, minimarkets, bank (including ATM machine), butcher and bakery. Cookery Courses are available.

Flexible Changeover days. Cottage is available at 4pm on the day of arrival and should be vacated by 10am on the day of departure. We are flexible on these times where we are able.

30% deposit payable at time of booking with balance payable 8 weeks prior to arrival. If booking made within 8 weeks, the full amount to be paid at time of booking. Payment can be made by bank transfer in Sterling.

  • Notes on accommodation: The house benefits from original stone walls and therefore keeps the house beautifully cool in the summer and retains the heat in the cooler months. Outside: A vine covered terrace offers welcome shade for outdoor dining where a BBQ is also provided for your enjoyment. Around the private pool, there are sunloungers and an extra table and chairs to enjoy a snack by the pool. Utility Room: The washing machine is located in the downstairs bathroom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels & Linen are provided. The cottage is made clean and ready for arrival, cleaning materials are provided for your use. Additional sheets and towels are provided for any guests staying 8 days or more. Other: An archway leads off the lounge to a lobby where there is broadband internet connection should you wish to bring your laptop. There is also a selection of books and children’s games.
