Casa Alegre is a delightful Algarve style villa with Moorish arches furnished to a high standard in a peaceful location situated at Fazenda Caravela, and benefits from a regular maid service, and free Wi-Fi. The Villa has an outside covered terrace at the front of the property, which has Table Football and countryside views over farmland and the 2 new Amendoeira championship golf courses (now open for play), leading to a private solar heated pool & sunbathing terrace, built-in BBQ, all within the mature walled garden, filled with trees and shrubs. They include Almond, Apricot, Orange, Lemon, Loquat, Peach trees and Grapevines, and also Bougainvillea. Casa Alegre is situated 6km from ancient city of Silves with its castle, food market, shops, restaurants and 8km from the coast with a wide range of beautiful sandy beaches and restaurants. It is an ideal base for a relaxing holiday sitting the pool, lying on the beach, or exploring the Algarve countryside, coast, and local cuisine. Very child friendly.
This partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
My family has owned Casa Alegre since it was built 40 years ago, and having taken my children there since they were babies, I am now seeing my grandchildren being taken there, as well as wider members of the family, and guests, many of whom have become my "regulars", and friends over the years. We aim to have a well kept and friendly house and like to see our guests enjoying the Algarve as we do - relaxing, swimming in the pool, walking in the countryside, going to the beach, sightseeing, sunbathing and generally having a good time, either eating out in the many restaurants, using the BBQ in the garden, or catering at home. My most frequent family of visitors have been coming to Casa Alegre for 15 summers consecutively.
Jane Shenton purchased this villa in 1960
My husband Brian was offered the one of the first two plots for sale on Fazenda Caravela, and the choice of 4 villa styles to have built there by an English builder. He fell in love with the countryside and views, as well as the friendly Portuguese people. It was a place of quiet and contentment for him and later for all the family.
We enjoy being able to please ourselves about when we come and go, whether we want to be by the pool, in the garden, on the terrace or indoors, reading, relaxing, listening to music or watching a film or TV. The villa is convenient for trips to nearby beaches, small villages such as Algoz for visiting the food market, lovely towns such as Silves, and the Monchique for trips into the hills. Fazenda Caravela exerts a quiet charm over its guests and visitors.
Had a fabulous time, boys enjoyed pool, weather was good and waterparks great. Sea kayaking was best from Lagos. Some excellent restaurants. Thanks. Janette, July 2008.
We have had the most perfect 2 weeks. The villa was so peaceful, and the pool and surroounding area wonderful. We have been blessed with blue skies, and warm weather every day. Very reluctant to leave! Thank you. Martin, June 2008.
Another fantastic week with the added bonus of the Olympics
Peter and Jane, 18-24 August 2008
We've had a lovely 2 weeks enjoying the beautiful weather. The house and setting are lovely and so well equipped for a young family. Thanks, Sally.
A wonderful week in the sun with a lovely pool and views over the farmlands. Just the holiday we all needed.
Initial impression excellent. Bright, clean, well maintained with everything we could have wished for. The extra bonus of a regular friendly maid was much appreciated by us all. Outside the pool was one of the best we have experienced in this type of property and the whole group took full advantage of it.
If we could just think of one thing to improve the property it would be air conditioning - we were there at a particularly hot time of year.
We last stayed at Casa Algere in 2008 and were so very pleased that our memory from that stay did not let us down. Booking was simplicity itself and the owner very approachable. She is delightful and helpful.
Casa Alegre is a lovely villa occupying a commanding position above the valley and looking towards the sea (just visible) over orange groves and golf courses. Beautifully designed and laid out, it has a terrace, well kept gardens, excellent shaded parking and of course the perfect swimming pool with day long sun. With 3 bedrooms, one with on-suit and 2 at the other end of the house with their own shower room, it should not be cramped with 6 adults. For 8 of our 14 days we were 4 adults and our 20 month old grandson and never felt in the least bit crowded. The kitchen has everything possibly required, the sitting room and dining area are very comfortable but it was a joy to sit on the terrace at night eating 'al fresco'. Casa Alegre is extraordinarily well equipped with everything needed for a lovely holiday including WiFi , and for those that need it, UK TV. Of special note was all the extra equipment necessary for a small child or two being provided (except, obviously, a car seat), the child safety features of the swimming pool and Maria (delightful)who came in around 10 or 1030 in the morning on weekdays to keep the property spick and span. She even, to my shame, cleared the BBQ out if I left it!
We arrived on Saturday night at 9.30 to be greeted to an immaculate property with a welcome basket of provisions (bread, cheese ham etc), an excellent bottle of white wine and a charming welcome card from Jane. A light supper and a chilled drink on the terrace was perfect after a relatively long day.
The swimming pool is wonderful, a perfect temperature in June, and an oasis of calm and relaxation; or it was until the arrival of our grandson. He took to the pool immediately, behaved himself immaculately and made full use of the armbands provided.
Casa Alegre is beautifully situated just a short drive to Silves with its market, supermarkets, restaurants, shops, delightful history and charming streets. (We particularly enjoyed the fantastic BBQ Piri Piri Chicken at Churrasqueira Valdemar facing the river 150 yards or so as you turn left off the bridge). Slightly closer is Algoz with its small family businesses and an excellent restaurant opposite the bank.
We would thoroughly recommend Casa Alegre and very much hope to return soon.
A real home from home and as said before a kitchen that lacked nothing in the shape of utensils. Lovely little BBQ area just outside the kitchen with access to the pool in just a few steps so nice and easy.
We loved the heated pool it was so nice to be able to get in quickly and stay in just bobbing around.
Quiet surroundings which was also close to the beaches and shops
This was one of the best if not the best holidays I have ever enjoyed!
The villa felt it was up above the world with a spectacular view over lemon orchards. The villa is so comfortable with all the amenities of home plus a daily housekeeper . The pool is wonderful and the weather was perfect- sunny with a cool breeze and the restaurants were a short drive away to enjoy the delicious and very reasonable Portuguese menus.
I would go back in a heartbeat!
A memorable, relaxing break at a lovely villa, in a scenic and private setting surrounded by great views. Our first visit to Portugal and booked at short notice, we settled on this place after all our needs seemed to be ticked. The booking process was an easy one with the owner very helpful and happy to accommodate wherever possible. Jane has a true gem of a place here available to lucky visitors. The place is a short drive to the beach, close to excellent restaurants and with a private pool, there is nothing missing. The mature gardens hosting oranges, tamarind and lime are but a small aspect of the charm and character of Casa Alegre. It is spacious and well equipped, and whether you are looking for a romantic break to a truly beautiful place that is the algarve, or a family break in a picturesque setting, you will leave Casa Alegre with fond memories, yearning to go back. Jane was a lovely host, providing detailed notes and advice as for holiday logistics and we hope that we can return again one day soon to enjoy her splendid Villa.
