Large Villa With Private Pool, Near The Sea

Updated: 10-Oct-2016
Villa near Carovigno, Brindisi, Puglia, Italy - Peaceful And Secluded Location In The Countryside

This delightful villa is located in the heart of Puglia’s country-side. With no neighbouring villas and totally surrounded by olive groves and farm land, Villa Capperi offers total seclusion and serenity. Accessed by a pine fringed drive and surrounded by dry stone walls. The villa is set in over three acres of land with olive trees and many varieties of fruit trees. Whilst the villa is tucked away in the Puglian countryside in an extremely tranquil location, getting there is simple as it is easily accessed via a quiet little country lane. Located just over 3km’s from Puglia’s finest beach and nature reserve at Torre Guaceto, the villa is perfectly situated for lovers of sun and sand. The fine old town of Carovigno with its many bars and restaurants, castle and old town is just 5km away. During 2012/13 the owners carried out an upgrade programme to the Villa and its grounds (including new Air Conditioning, new Kitchen equipment, new Wi-Fi etc). The owners have now completely modernised both bathrooms for the 2015 season. Also new from 2015 season, guests now can arrange horse riding lessons through our local representative.

If you enjoy peace and quiet with a major bit of sunshine thrown in, then this is the place for you.

A few minutes drive from San Vito dei Normanii, surrounded by olive groves and fruit trees it is the perfect place relax, which is exactly what we did for the week.

The villa is fitted out with everything you may need to do as much or as little as you want.

A very difficult place to leave after a fabulous holiday.

Will certainly make every effort to come back next year.

The house setting is idyllic surrounded by green and very cool (we were there during the heat wave and did not need to put the a/c on once). The position is great - close enough to the beautiful sea, local shops and with the option of day trips to lovely towns. Antonio was very friendly and helpful with local tips. You can do as little or as much as you want. The title says it all - Absolutely brilliant!!!

A very relaxing holiday in a lovely villa

  • 4 of 5

We had a very relaxing two weeks in Villa Capperi. The villa is pretty, very clean and is well maintained. The place has a fabulous pool which is good for young and older children and lots of seating for eating out and finding some shade during the heat of the day. The breeze is strong which is a marvellous addition at night; there is air con available but we didn't use it, even on the hottest nights and instead just enjoyed the breeze. The villa has wrap around mosquito nets (doors and windows) which is really sensible. We were only bitten a handful of times, even without spray. The villa is in a rural area so you definitely need a car, but there is easy shopping within a 5 minute drive and the beach also 5 minutes away. The villa has wifi and an 'in and out' phone signal but it was fine for us, even with 3 electronically minded children/teenagers. Sarah was on the end of a text or phone if needed and it was reassuring to know that we could call for help (or for hints as to the best places to eat!) She also made allowances for our flight times which was very, very kind and most welcome. If you are looking for a villa which offers you total relaxation to do things at your own pace and the bonus of our own pool but with a beach a stones throw away, this is an ideal place for you. P.S. Italian driving is everything that it's cracked up to be!

1st visit to Italy

  • 5 of 5

On arrival we could not believe the peace and quiet of this location, yet surprisingly close to Caravigno and it's well stocked supermarket for provisions.

There is nothing better than working up an appetite in the beautifully clean and well maintained pool before lunch al fresco on the main terrace. Should you want to lose yourself with a book, there are other places to sit around the villa away from the main pool area, and shaded.

We watched the sun go down on the roof terrace with a litre of the local brew before venturing down to use the BBQ remaining outside well into the night , stargazing!

The villa has a very well equipped kitchen, and we would cook the produce we had picked up in Caravigno. Lovely to eat at the large outside table on the terrace shaded from the sun at lunchtime.

We visited Caravigno and Ostuni and thoroughly enjoyed the antipasti, different in every restaurant, eating with the locals who were very helpful and friendly.

Ostuni has lots of charm and alleyways with galleries to explore, and a fabulous view from the top of the terrace.

We never felt overcome by the heat as the villa has marble floors and shutters which keep out the sun and bugs, and there is aircon if you want it. Occasionally you may see a gecko or a small lizard darting across the outside terrace, but neither of us had any mosquito bites despite sitting outside at night!

The bedrooms are spacious and the villa is kept beautifully clean.

This was just the holiday needed to recharge the batteries. We were only here for a week, but 2 weeks would have given us more time to explore the beach and other areas nearby.

We shall definitely return!

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Brindisi at 19 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Brindisi at 18 Kilometres Nearest Train : Carovigno at 10 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : SS379 at 4 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Punta Penna at 4 Kilometres Car: necessary

We are 3 kms from the beach at the little seaside town of Lido Specchiolla and approximately 5 mins (4 kms) from Puglia's finest beach located in the nature reserve in Torre Gauceto.

To the west the Med (Ionian sea) and the seaside towns located along the Taranto to Gallipoli coastline is only 30-40 mins drive.

As we do not tend to have any "package" holidays in Puglia, beaches near the villa mainly attract Italian families in the summer

We are an easy 20 minute drive from Brindisi airport (Ryanair, Alitalia & Easyjet from April 2015) and a straightforward 75 mins from Bari airport (BA, EasyJet and Ryanair, etc). Car hire is essential due to the Villa's secluded location. In addition, there are frequent inexpensive flights from all over Europe that go to Naples. The journey from Naples (multiple airlines) to Puglia is mainly motorway and is a comfortable 3.5 hours. Flights to Puglia fill up quickly so early booking is advisable.

The Villa is 3km from the nearest beach and less than 4km from the nature reserve and extensive golden sands at Torre Gauceto. The historic old town of Ostuni is 15 mins drive away. We are 5km from both the town of Carovigno with its attractive old town and the lively resort and beach of Santa Sabina. Lecce with its famous Baroque architecture is a short drive away as are most of the region's other towns and places of interest (Alberobello, Monopoli, Brindisi, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, etc)

Further Details:

Whilst the villa is tucked away in the Puglian countryside in an extremely tranquil location, getting there is simple as it is easily accessed via a quiet little country lane.

The villa is located just over 3km’s from Puglia’s finest beach and nature reserve at Torre Guaceto and is perfectly situated for lovers of sun and sand. The fine old town of Carovigno with its many bars and restaurants, castle and old town is just 5km away as is San Vito Dei Normanni.

We are 4km from the large supermarket on the outskirts of San Vito. Carovigno has beautiful churches, a castle and a nearby underground grotto at Belvedere. Carovigno is well known throughout Puglia for its cuisine and each restaurant is proud of its specialities featuring local produce such as olives, tomatoes, cheese and seafood and fish. You won't need to look further than house wines which are superb value. Both San Vito and Carovigno are full of little shops (deli's, greengrocers, bakers, fishmongers, butchers, small bars etc) as well as a choice of supermarkets.

There have recently been several new excellent restaurants opened in Carovigno. Check out the fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor. The lively coastal resort of Santa Sabena with its superb restaurants and pizzerias is just 10 minutes drive away and a favourite destination for Villa Capperi's guests. Even nearer is the seaside town of Specchiolla (just a few minutes drive away) which now hosts some good restaurants along the sea front.

New for 2015 season, guests can arrange horse riding lessons through our local representative.

  • Notes on accommodation: The Villa has a three acre estate which is surrounded by a traditional Puglian dry stone wall. The villa also has a monitored security system. Villa Capperi has a very large roof terrace (200sqm) with stunning views across the estate. Entrance to the roof terrace is via a gated stairway; however, we recommend that parents of young children should not leave them unattended. Air-conditioning is available at no extra cost provided usage is not excessive. A certified electricity meter measures units consumed within the villa so that guests can keep a track of usage. Like all air-conditioning, it requires windows and doors to be closed to work properly and minimise electricity consumption. However, the villa is naturally cool if you observe the Italian custom of closing the shutters when the sun is at its hottest. Sorry, no pets. This is a non-smoking villa. Outside: Large terraces surround the villa with an extensive main marble-floored veranda at the front. The veranda leads onto the large private swimming pool (12m x 4.5m) which is surrounded by a small dry stone wall. The Villa has several outdoor tables including a king-size one and chairs, barbecue, sunbeds, poolside chairs etc. The pool is of traditional design with a deep end and shallow end that features Roman Steps. The pool is therefore suitable for swimming lengths as well as relaxing with the whole family and we recommend that children are accompanied at all times.Traditional Puglian dry stone walls enclose the three acre estate and the villa's immediate surroundings are fenced in the local style with a gate providing guests access to the land and its many fruit trees. Utility Room: There is a washing machine provided for guests' use in the utility room. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen for the villa are included (Not beach or pool towels). Linen and towels changed weekly. Pool maintenance at least once per week. Villa cleaned weekly. Other: The lounge has a DVD player connected to a widescreen TV (we do not have Sky or live TV). There is a large selection of DVDs for grown ups and children to watch. The Wi-Fi hub is located in the lounge.
