About the property

According to Ralph Waldo Emmerson, "Life is a journey, not a destination". A holiday, however, is all about the destination. We have made our home here for the last 8 years and really take pleasure in where we live and having the opportunity to share it with others. The life here is simple, peaceful and uncomplicated. Join us and share the wonderful lifestyle and culture of Brittany.

Situated in the beautiful Blavet Valley, La Metairie was originally a cider farm. Set in lovely landscaped grounds of over 3 acres with a small lake and woodlands leading down to a private river, the emphasis here is on peace and tranquillity and is the ideal place to relax and unwind.

With the owners on site we are always on hand to help or offer suggestions on places to visit.

Each apartment is individual and both are tastefully decorated in a unique style. All linen, heating, gas and electricity is included in the price of your holiday. We also offer a breakfast service which has proved an enormous success with our guests and also a laundry service if needed.

Within the grounds there are numerous areas for dining and relaxing with plentiful garden furniture and barbeque equipment. Books, games, CDs and DVDs are also available.

For full information on all our services please see our website www.gite42.com or you can telephone us at any time if you prefer to speak to a real person! We do not subscribe to the pay now option with Owners Direct due to their fees but you are quite welcome to use paypal if you contact us.

The town of Melrand is a few minutes by car and has an excellent restaurant as well as small local shops, bars, takeaway pizza, pharmacy and post office. The historic town of Pontivy is approximately 12kms. The Blavet River is practically on our doorstep and has miles of paths which are ideal for keen walkers or cyclists. Other recreational facilities such as golf, fishing and horse-riding are all close at hand.

The beaches of the Gulf of Morbihan are within easy driving distance including Kerfanny Les Pins, Trinte Sur Mer and Lamor Plage. There are also lovely beaches at Carnac where you will also find the famous megaliths.

Also close by is the majestic Abbey of Bon Repos, the grand lake at Lac de Guerledan, the historic working village of Poul Fetan, the fortified towns and cities of Josselin, Vannes and Dinan as well as quaint historic villages and towns such as Rochefort en Terre or even a "Cornish Style" fishing port at Doelan. You'll never be short of somewhere to visit or something to do!

Gites are ideal for 1 or 2 couples each with their own dedicated accommodation. Discounts available for 2 sets of couples or simply friends travelling together. If you are travelling in a group early booking is strongly recommended to ensure that both gites are available.

We have had quite a few situations whereby guests arrive to find that they have friends in the area wanting accommodation which we have been able to help with. This has meant that friends can spend quality time together in the same location. Please let us know how we can help

About Sally Greenway

We are a couple who have travelled the world extensively but have finally made our home in the beautiful Brittany countryside. From our combined travels, taking in over 100 countries, we understand fully the meaning of customer service and strive to provide our guests with the best possible experience of life in this wonderful region.

Sally Greenway purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Sally Greenway chose Melrand

The countryside is very beautiful and unspoilt with very little traffic. The small towns and villages are beautifully kept and there is no litter or vandalism. The location of our house is, we feel, ideal as we are in a very small hamlet of 5 houses, well away from the road which makes it very safe for our pets yet we have a few neighbours making it a nice little community. La Metairie was originally a cider farm and the various houses all used to form part of the complex with our house being the last to be used as the farmhouse and having the most land. Our local town of Melrand is a few minutes drive away and has a superb restaurant and useful small shops. La Metairie is also ideally positioned for exploring the many larger towns of south Brittany and the coast.

Please visit our website: www.gite42.com for 'pay now' facilities and also special offers which are not listed on this site.

What makes this cottage unique

It is a relatively short drive to the coast - about 45kms and the beautiful historic towns of Vannes and Josselin are easily reached. Our properties are exclusively for adults and couples but also suitable for single travellers. There is always someone on hand for help and advice and we try to ensure that our guests want for nothing!

Fantastic Holiday!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed at the Gallery for one week during the month of August 2015 and had an absolutely wonderful holiday. The grounds are so relaxing and private. Roosters and church bells in the distance add to the ambiance of this rural hideaway. The Gallery was comfortable and impeccably clean, complete with everything we needed - including a fully equipped kitchen. A bottle of wine, homemade jam and fresh eggs were waiting for us upon arrival. We took daily road trips (between 30 mins - 130 minutes) to incredible towns/islands including Vannes, Quiberon, and Belle Isle. But the nearby town of Melrand also offers delicious and authentic cuisine as well.

We got engaged over the course of our stay, down by the lily pond shaded by the giant willow tree and we couldn't have imagined anything more romantic. It is our most memorable vacation yet! Thank you to Sally for your first class hospitality. We highly recommend La Metairie!!

Lovely Gite

  • 5 of 5

My wife, I and our Dalmatian dog spent the month of July 2015 in the Coach House of this delightful gite in rural Brittany located in a peaceful setting near Melrand. Sally & Irvin have good taste in decoration and the Coach House over-delivers on expectations. The gardens with the pond are absolutely beautiful and remind us of those in Stately homes in England. The chickens that Sally keeps add to the rural charm, keeping us amused with their antics and providing us with wonderful eggs.

The owners were friendly and delightful and always very helpful with local information and activities, really useful as we have never been to this part of Brittany before.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, relaxing in the peaceful surroundings.

We hope to return to La Metairie again and have no hesitation in recommending it as a lovely place for a holiday.

The Gallery Blavet Valley Morbihan

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in several gites in Brittany over the years but i have to say the Gallery Gite tops them all. A beautiful location that has to be witnessed as the photos good as they are do not do this location justice. We can only describe this location as a gem in the Morbihan area. The grounds are outstanding, the lake and the river areas are the most tranquil we have experienced.

The Gallery gite is very well furnished, very clean and well equipped to make your stay a home from home.We spent three weeks in this gite and loved the homely atmosphere it presented.

Sally and Irvin the hosts looked after us very well, and were very helpful when needed, they have good local knowledge of the area now that's a bonus.

The natural wildlife is all around you and the hens which we enjoyed feeding provide the loveliest eggs you could imagine for breakfast.

We rate this location and the Gallery gite as the nicest holiday we have had in Brittany and will return to it in the future.

We would recommend this location/property to anyone considering a holiday in this region

What a fantastic location! The accommodation is set within the grounds of the farmhouse which can only be described as beautiful and peaceful, an ideal place for a relaxing holiday but within easy reach of the many attractions around the area. The "Gallery" lived up to all of our expectations and was lovely, we'll furnished and had probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Breakfast on the balcony in the glorious morning sun overlooking the garden is an experience I would recommend to anyone.

Sally and Irvin were brilliant hosts and could not do enough to make our holiday complete, many thanks to you both.

In summary, I would strongly recommend the "Gallery" to anyone who wants a great holiday in a lovely location.

We have stayed here twice now and will be going back next year. The location is stunning! I adore staying in the Gallery, everything about the apartment is just beautiful. My husband and I spent idyllic days relaxing in the many locations situated in the grounds. We have fallen in love with this holiday location. It is tranquillity personified! The hosts are just amazing they just make your stay so stress free. The Gallery has a wonderful balcony with beautiful views of the grounds. Whilst there we visited fabulous beaches and many lovely historical towns. This is the best holiday I have ever had and I am 60 now so that's saying something!
