Converted farmstead of a typical regional style. This house is ideal for people wishing to wind down and relax whilst also being ideal for families with children as they can be kept occupied yet safe within the grounds of the property. The food and drink of this region are second to none even within France, which together with the warm summer temperatures make this a favourite holiday destination.

About philip

Born 1950's a Chartered Accountant with schoolteacher wife and three children at university and six form college. I worked in my own property/construction business until it was sold in early 2000. I was born and now settled back on the English/Welsh border after having worked in London in the 80's.

Why philip chose Perigord Pourpre

The house was originally a home and smallholding of a french couple who were retiring to live with their children. My parents bought the smallholding, renovated the house, put in a pool and added modern conveniences. They knew the Dordogne because of its food and wine which in turn meant plenty of summer sunshine. Leaving the ferry in the morning we could be sitting by the pool with a glass of Rose in the late afternoon sun in the real french countryside. Nowadays with flights to Bergerac the ferries are no longer the only option of travel to this beautiful area.

What makes this house unique

The house is still only one residence although it looks larger as with the original farm buildings it sits in around 3 acres of grounds. This means the house is very secluded and free of external noise and disturbance. The house is elevated and south facing and not overlooked. In front of the main gate is a minor road that leads to Bergerac. We found the house and grounds an ideal holiday environment for a young family. There is plenty of room for the kids to play and have adventures, but is safe and secure enough for us as responsible parents to relax and wind down.

Notes on accommodation: Radiator gas fired heating to bedrooms and log burning stove in lounge. Outside: Tree shaded eating area adjacent to kitchen with stunning views down the valley across the lake 0.2km away. Below house swimmimg pool 9m x 4.5m. Stepped entrance though shallow of 0.9m depth, 7m length to 2.3m depth deep end. Complete privacy around pool with sun loungers, eating area and feature barbecue. Separate pool and area lighting for evening. Area contained within low wooden fencing to make pool child safe in accordance with French law. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and bathroom towels provided and changed weekly.
