About this property

Unique, Spacious, Architect Designed Villa with Panoramic Sea Views, 30m to sea

Malo Blue is a spacious, architect designed villa with panoramic sea views over the Adriatic to the island of Brac. It is located 30 metres from the beach. Access is via private path down some steep steps.
Malo Blue featured in the programme 'Homes by the Med' which aired on the channel More 4 on Tuesday 21st March 2017.
As Malo Blue is a villa and not inter-connecting apartments there is a spacious kitchen and communal areas which is more than enough for groups of up to 8 people. The Villa is surrounded by a large, private, garden which offers privacy and space. There are a couple of undercover parking spaces off the road at the back of the garden. Situated on a private leafy path and steps Malo Blue is just 30 metres from the secluded Tice beach in Stanici and a further 5 minute walk further along the beach to the main Stanici beach (there are no roads to cross to reach the beaches). Malo Blue is 100m from grocery stores and restaurants in the village. The Villa can be approached through the garden from the parking spaces or through a gate off the path to the beach. A wrought iron fence runs around the garden. There is a distinctive, high, well lit entrance corridor, which is a great space to leave beach paraphernalia and offers privacy.
The entrance leads to a wide front door which opens onto a spacious hall with a fitted cupboard, bookcase and side table.
The hall opens onto the kitchen area to the right. Here the ceiling rises to the full height of the villa. A gallery landing looks down onto the dining area where there is a large table seating up to 10. A window runs from floor to ceiling flooding the room with light and offers a view of the sea and BBQ. There is a hob, oven, a large fridge with a small freezer compartment, a dishwasher and microwave. Shelves, drawers and cupboards house the kitchen equipment.
A chimney breast partly divides the kitchen area from the sitting area. This gives the impression of being separate spaces whilst still being able to see and chat to anyone in the living area. Three wide wooden steps on the left of the chimney breast lead to the sitting room. At one end there is a brick open fireplace and at the other end French windows which lead onto the large dining terrace.
In the living area there is a large L-shaped sofa, a two-seater sofa, upholstered ottoman and coffee table.
Leading off the hall is the master bedroom with a king size bed, fitted wardrobes, sea views and French windows leading onto the dining terrace. The ceiling rises from normal height by the French windows to almost full building height at the other side of the room.
There are two further twin bedrooms. They are both identical in size and layout with fitted wardrobes, sea views and access onto a terrace downstairs and balcony upstairs. Both rooms are spacious enough for a camp bed or cot in addition to the twin beds (you can get two camp beds or a camp bed and a cot, although there wouldn't be much floor space).
The twin room on the ground floor leads off the hall and has a French window which accesses the terrace to the side of the house by the BBQ.
A spacious shower room is to the left of the front door. Both shower rooms have good water pressure, an independent water heater, a wall heater, loo, basin, bidet, cupboard and a window.
A wide spiral staircase leads to a spacious first floor landing which has a fitted cupboard, book shelves and a semi-circular gallery which looks over the dining area. Off the landing is the second shower room, it is identical to the one on the ground floor but for the inclusion of a washing machine. Next to the shower room on the landing there is a door off to a part covered terraced which is good for drying beach clothes etc. Drying racks are provided.
The second twin room is across the spacious landing opposite the shower room and has a French window which opens onto a small balcony with views up and down the bay. All bedrooms, living and kitchen areas have sea views.
Malo Blue was originally designed and build in the 1970's. It is one of a kind. Commissioned by a Macedonian sweet manufacturer it was the first commission for a recently qualified architect from Sarajevo who became a well know architect in Split responsible for the design of many public buildings and shopping centres. Malo Blue offers stylish and spacious open plan living, with areas where guests can find privacy.
The large terrace has a shade canopy of bougainvillea and sail shades and runs the full length of the villa and round to the kitchen and BBQ. There is a large dining table and chairs as well as chairs and small table for drinks and sun loungers on the terrace. Steps by the BBQ lead down to a shady covered area under the terrace and a pebble terrace with sun loungers and a further dining table and chairs.
Malo Blue is well equipped. There are plenty of pots, pans, jugs, cutlery, crockery and glasses. It includes crockery and cutlery for babies and small children. There is also plenty of cooking equipment, serving platters, sharp knives. There are relevant, popular cook books using the ingredients you find in Croatia. We have lots of drying rack space for beach towels and washing.

Lovely, spacious home with amazing sea views
Malo Blu is a beautiful, spacious, comfortable, architect designed home with the most amazing sea views from every room. Waking up in the main bedroom to a sea view was just paradise! The patio and BBQ area was enormous with several seating / dining areas... each one enjoying the panoramic view. Our eldest son mastered the wood BBQ and cooked some fabulous meals of fresh fish from the local seafood market in Omis. During the days, we enjoyed Zip Lining and Kayaking in Omis (we saved canyoning for our next visit). We also loved the beach at Mela Luka (a short drive away) with its crystal clear waters and sheltered bay... Our boys enjoyed jumping off the rocks there. It was always a pleasure to come home to Malo Blu in the evenings. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were plenty of books and DVDs for entertainment. We met Jane, the owner, prior to our stay and she was warm, welcoming, and helpful... and sent us lots of useful tips and suggestions about restaurants, activities, and day trips. The Omis Riviera / Stanici is a beautiful region. We had a fabulous time and thoroughly recommend it. We hope to be back soon! Thanks Jane!

Malo Blue
We had a wonderful week in this lovely house. The location is beautiful, overlooking the sea, and just a short walk down the steps to a small, but quiet and peaceful beach. The sea was incredible - clear, blue and full of fish. The house was very well equipped, clean, and interesting in its architecture. Very easy to get around on the bus and we travelled the short distance to the nearest town,Omis, every other day. Jane has been very helpful and accommodating in all our requests and questions. We hope to return very soon!

A wonderful villa and home
From the beginning the organisation of our stay was brilliant. The welcome from the housekeeper and her family was wonderful and we fell in love with the villa and its location very quickly. Sitting by the sea surrounded by local people was perfect. Really enjoyed Omis and the Cetina gorge. Will definitely return.

About the host

We are a family of 4 who live in England. My husband is a dentist and I juggle part time marketing work with children. We have both lived abroad, love to travel and are keen for a bit of adventure. From very young both my children have backpacked with us. As well as having other holidays and adventures, we still go to Croatia every year, not because we feel we ought to but because we all still love it. Apart from the location, climate and culture, we love the fact we are part of a Croatian community on our beach hillside in Stanici. We have Croatian friends. My children go on fishing and boating expeditions with their Croatian friends and as they have grown older dancing in Split and Omis. My husband plays annual Croatia vs. England tennis matches with neighbours and their family. It is more than just a holiday.

I have equipped the house well as there is nothing more irritating than having to have a rota for use of a plate or teaspoons because there aren't enough! We love our house and feel very lucky to have found it, the vast majority of guests have really enjoyed their stay citing the location, space and lovely views. I welcome all and any questions as choosing the right holiday is important and we want your stay at Malo Blue to be memorable. Emilija and Rene look after the house, speak good English and will help if you have any problems or questions or can organise trips or boat hire.

Why they chose this property

We found Malo Blue after a backpacking adventure along the Dalmatian coast in 2003. My children were then 4 and 3 years old. We had arrived in Split with only the outline of a plan and nothing booked apart from a car. We loved every moment and a chance stay at a very charming retired submarine engineer's apartment led to us finding the villa and buying it. When we found it it had been shut up for almost 10 years after the death of the owner. The villa was almost hidden by the overgrown garden. Although we had no idea how to buy a house in Croatia, and spoke no Croatian we knew if we didn't go ahead and try and buy it, it would be a big regret. Even in its sorry state it was obvious that it had been the vision of a creative architect. Having bought it we were lucky enough to track down the architect. It had been his first commission on qualifying. He had since moved on to much larger projects. He helped us restore it sympathetically. It is a ridiculous waste of space, it should have 5 bedrooms not 3 but all the lovely communal space just adds to its appeal and the experience when staying there.

What makes this property unique

Everyone who walks through the front door of Malo Blue - looks up and says WOW or COOL on their age! Even the entrance tells you that there is nothing run of the mill about the villa. It is a unique and striking house. There is a ridiculous waste of space with dining and living areas which have ceilings the full height of the building, a gallery landing, a wide spiral staircase in a 'turret' at the back of the villa. All of this lovely space adds to the experience of being by the sea. There are sea views wherever you look and a real feeling of space. The sea is so close and inviting, even if you don't consider yourself a water baby! The views of the sea and island from the villa means there is always something to watch. Even when you leave the villa, the feeling of somewhere special continues, the area is a leafy hillside leading to the sea and the pride and joy of its Croatian residents. All the properties are well kept with lots of plants and colourful flowers. A good beach bar, local shops, a beach at the end of the steps. It has a simple appeal and you don't need to be super organised or do everything together for a great holiday. Omis just 5km away is a beautiful historic town with old pedestrianised squares, beach, markets, restaurants, shops etc. Boats leave for trips to the islands from the harbour. There is a magnificent view of the coast from the castle. For the more active and adventurous or for those families with very active children there is a brilliant windsurfing and kite surfing school in Omis, which also hire out boards. The bay is perfect as it is shallow and the water is clear. The instructors are excellent and there is equipment for all ages. For spectators there is somewhere to have a coffee, drink or ice cream. There are also a couple of tennis courts not far from the windsurfing in Omis. The magnificent Cetina river and gorge in Omis offers rafting which is a great day out.
