About the property

Peaceful Location 20mins From The Sea, 1hr From Sky Resort, 60 Mins From Malaga Airport

El Molino del Arroyo is an unusual and beautiful Andalusian Old Mill, recently restored to provide luxury accommodation for up to 12 people, situated in the village of Guajar Faraguit. The feeling of rural/relaxing Spain in this secluded village is the prefect ingredient for a tranquil holiday.

Situated at the edge of a National reserve, the views are stunning with a feeling of being truly away from the world. Nevertheless, the exhilarating towns of Motril and Salobrena with their long beaches on the warm Mediterranean, are only 20 mins drive away, Granada is only 50 mins away with the beautiful Alhambra castle and other historic sites to visit in any season. The snow mountains of Sierra Nevada only just over 1 hour away for skiing during the winter months or for great walks in the summer.

The well kept white village of Guajar Faraguit is part of three villages known as "Los Guajares", with Guajar Fondo and Guajar Alto. They going back to the time of the Moors and you can find plenty of historic walks and sites around.

The village has many facilities, including a Bar Restaurant, Bar Parada; a night Club open Fridays and Saturdays, Aki Mismo; a Bank, Bakery, Doctors, Pharmacy a Supermarket and "Estanco" (Tabac) for cigarettes, crisps and soft drinks.

Also near are the beautiful villages of the Alpujarras, ….. and by the sea the town of Nerja, often referred to as 'The Jewel of the Costa del Sol" with its caves, beautiful views and exhilarating atmosphere.

From El Molino del Arroyo it is possible to do day trips to Sevilla or Cordoba; or closer for adventurous canoeing in Rio Verde, in the town of Otivar just 30 minutes from the house or cycling, walking, rock climbing or just relaxing in at the Spa at the Robinson Club in Playa Granada Motril.

The house features an extremely spacious open plan living area with a large fire place. An open staircase leads up to the galleried sitting room, a balcony with views to the mountains and the pool area, the master bedroom also enjoys the magnificent views. This room has its en-suite and a king size poster bed.

Downstairs another 3 bedrooms are located, a good size double with en-suite and its own courtyard; 1 twin room with views; a room with 2 bunk-beds again facing the mountains and a family bathroom with a wet area and a bath. All bedrooms have air conditioning.

The kitchen is large and fully equipped, with cooker with oven, dishwasher and large refrigerator. A small toilet and the laundry room with washing mashing, a dryer, iron and iron-board completes this part of the house.

The spacious dinner area is in between the kitchen and living room, the old olive press and other machinery from the old mill decorate this room.

The living room has comfortable sofas, atmospheric lighting and original arabic carpet. The large fireplace keeps the room warm and inviting, perfect for the evening, specially in the cooler months.

A library room/office is also part of this level of the house. It has a desk, chair and lots of books to borrow from. The house has internet access and a TV for films only. (We have not connection with cable or terrestrial TV)

The house was an old olive mill (Molino) situated near a stream (arroyo) therefore it has its name: Molino del Arroyo. Some original features were integrated under the reconstruction adding character. The decoration is simple but luxurious, keeping the antiqueness of the rustic Mediterranean style, warm in the winter but cool in the summer. The original door to the mill is now the door to the master bedroom and the stairs are made from the logs which were part of a small rail system that moved the olives around, one of the old cars is in the pool area. The large stone in the living room under the carpet, was also par of the old press. As well as the stone use in the fountain.

Outside, the roof covered baranda with views to the pool and the mountains, provides the perfect space for al-fresco lunches and dinners, it has a large table with sitting up to 12 people. It also houses the ping-pong table and a two seater bench, perfect for reading under the cover.

The outside area is large with a barbecue pit with built in seating, a good size pool, six sun loungers, a cabana with furniture, a hammock and a water fountain, to complete the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. It has plenty of space to run around or just to sit to enjoy the sun and wonderful views. During the day the views will be of the valley and exquisite mountain range that surrounds the property, by night, the sky with brightly shining stars and constellations.

For the winter month the house is fully fitted with radiators.

The village of Guajar Faraguit is one of the three villages that make up the region called Los Guajares in the Sierra de Los Guajares. Guajar Faraguit has a small population of about 700 people, which during the festivities of the Saint Patron of the village, San Lorenzo, can double or triple with visitors to this very popular Fiestas. The Fiestas are held every year from the 9th to the 11th of August.

The town has a bank with a cash dispenser, pharmacy, Doctor's Surgery, small cafe/bar, supermarket, hairdresser, couple of bakeries and even a gym. All within walking distance from the house.

The two other villages have less facilities but both have more than one place to eat or have a drink.

The area and the house are really special, a perfect place for any type of holidays, restful or active; ideal for getting to know Andalusia; wonderful to recharge, beautiful and comfortable, in other words, with the the perfect ingredients for a perfect holiday.

Cleaning and cooking can be arranged at a small additional cost with prior agreement.

I found Los Guajares by complete chance, I was on holidays in Las Alpujarras where I was also looking to buy a property. The estate agent suggested I look at a house in Guajar Faraguit, I'd never heard of such a place before, nevertheless, I did and I was completely taking by the beauty of the house; its amazing views, the wonderful feeling of relaxation, the connection with nature and the beautiful but rural village. Within 20 minutes of leaving the house I put an offer for it. Next time I visited it was mine and I have never regretted that impulsive decision. I love the house a little more every time I visit as much as I love to share its beauty with my guests because I know they never be disappointed.

What makes this villa unique

Guajar Faraguit is a small, beautiful, white, rural village, perfectly located in a semi-tropical area. Therefore, the weather there is good all year around, never too cold or too hot. The house is only 20 minutes away fro the near beaches of Motril or Salobrana and it's perfect for a ski holiday too, as the mountains of the Sierra Nevada and the ski resorts are only 1 hour away.

The house is semi seclude but also has amazing views of the National Park. We have not noisy neighbours and we can made noises because we disturb no one.

The walks around are wonderful, we are surrounded by farms with all kind of fruit trees. There is a small stream by the house and the water sound give you peace and calm while sunbathing in the warm sunshine.

Facilities around are good, with lots of shops nearby, plenty of activities and /or for complete relaxation.

Notes on accommodation: All rooms are equipped with fans and radiators (during cool months). The house is child friendly although pool area isn't enclosed but whole property is gated. Possibly not suited for wheelchairs as the house has many levels and steps. Private parking for 2/3 cars. Outside: Private pool (8 x 4mts) automatic clean twice a day, plus a deep clean every two days during the summer, once a week in winter. No heated. BBQ area with seating arrangements, cabana, pin-pon table, hammock, water fountain. The property has a garden/farm area opposite, at the other side of the river, with some fruit trees and easy access. However, due to the big drops, this area is not suitable for minors without adult supervision at all times. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, hoover, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are included in the price. Beach towels are not included. Other: Outside, covered terrace with tables and sitting for 12/14 guests. Barbecue pit with seating area, cabana with 2 arm chairs, hammock, pin-pon table. Upstairs, living room area with two comfortable arm chairs, 3 seated sofa, a large sofa-bed. Balcony.

Wow-property with a fantastic location in a genuine village.

We are a family from Sweden who stayed over Easter in El Molino. The trip from Malaga went easy and we stayed in Motril to shop groceries. Driving there makes you feel like being in the wild western movie. The rough mountains with caves and a small road to Guajar Faraguit with lovely plants and cactuses growing on the cliffs.

Coming to the house was like opening Pandora's box. Everything felt bigger and even nicer than on the pictures.

The housekeeper, Yasmina, was friendly and made a wonderful paella, fixed wood for the fireplace, and spoke a lot of Spanish.

The surroundings are breathtaking. Beautiful!

Would certainly want to be back some day.! Thank you!

Perfect Venue for Family holiday September 2016....

This is a very unique property which totally matched the description/photos given on the website and is somewhat of a tardis upon first entering from the road. The setting overlooking the mountains and the valley is the perfect backdrop for a completely relaxing break. The property is located up a twisty windy road about 20 minutes from the main road in a very quiet village high up in the hills of Andalusia which has a cafe/bar and small general shop but where very little English is spoken so as suggested by the owner it is wise to learn some basic phrases. The property was well-appointed in all respects and very spacious, far more so than appeared to be the case from its initial external appearance. It was very clean and bed linen/towels/pool towels were provided. The pool itself was also very clean and inviting, even if seeming a little chilly on first entry!

The terrace has comfortable wooden sun beds with cushions and the ping pong table was a useful distraction when a break from sunbathing was required! The cabana also provided some much needed shade at various times of the day. With a barbecue at its other end, the terrace manages to accommodate everything needed for a truly relaxing holiday in a relatively confined area while still leaving plenty of room for everyone to have their own space.

Owing to the remote location, a car is obviously essential and we intended to make use of this by exploring the area. We did venture up to Granada on one day but that turned out to be our only real excursion. Days spent at the property were so relaxing and enjoyable that we became reluctant to disturb the routine! We would have no hesitation in recommending the property to others or returning there ourselves although, in the latter case, we feel that it would be better to go at least as a small group rather than just as a couple owing to the property's size and remoteness.

Breathtakingly, beautfully perfect!!

Myself and my family stayed here to celebrate my Dads retirement. When we arrived, we were all stunned at the breathtaking views and then the happiness and excitement continued as we entered the property. The listing description was perfectly accurate, you cant really put into words the beauty of this house and location.

Cars are a must, and we recommend exploring the mountains and visiting the local bar/ressturant. Salobrena has an amazing steak restaurant nearby too. We will definitely be returning as there is soooo much more to see and do!!

Xihomara was perfect with communication and customer services, would definitely recommend just next time I will definitely brush up on my Spanish!! :D

Great value!

Very enjoyable 2 weeks spent here over Easter 2015, strongly recommended for anyone seeking a refreshing and high quality break. The design is stunning yet practical recalling the traditional method of pressing olives (worth visiting the olive museum down on the main road to get the full story), updated with all mod-cons and great living and relaxing spaces. Great for local walks and interesting sights both in the village (we followed a wonderful nighttime Easter procession) and in the hills around.

Yes there is a very winding road to get there, and the local restaurants are not exactly gourmet, but it was a perfect place to relax, miles away from the touristy side of southern Spain. Attentive and helpful service from the owner throughout, making this easy to recommend - perhaps just needs wifi to be complete?

beautifully restored, spectacular views

We (a danish family of 10, 3 generations) spent 10 wonderful days based at this beautifully restored old olive mill in Guajar Faraguit. Starting with the only drawback the road up there is windy but once arrived you are rewarded with a stunning view, surprisingly green due to the many streams in the area and inside the mill a beautifully restored and luxurious place to retreat in case the basking sun becomes a bit much.

Having mentioned the heat and the sun, there seems to be an eternal breeze that raises in morning and serves as a refreshing and very welcome cooler in the hot afternoons. Being a bit up in the montains it is actually nice and cool at night allowing you to sleep very well and wake up to the eternally blue Andalusian skies and the view to the montains covered with olive, orange and avocado trees mixed in with bits of montaneous slopes and wild trees.

You have to make sure to plan your shopping as you have to drive down the mountain for supplies other than what's available in the village (supermarket style). Granada is 45 minutes away and it took us about 25-30 minutes to reach the beach at Salobrena though we much preferred Nerja.

Should we come back one day (which is not at all impossible) we will combine the mill with overnight stays in Sevilla, Cordoba and Ronda. These destionations are a bit too far away (about 3 hours each way) to cover based in Guajar Faraguit.

But .. we can definitely only recommed the mill if you are planning to, like us, combine days of go-slow with a bits of sightseeing in Andalusia.

We do hope to see you again there in the near future. By the way, we had done Sevilla for the day, leaving at 7am from Guajar we arrived just after 10am, we spend the day visiting the town rich history and left at 11pm after a lovely dinner at Abades Triana Restaurant by the river. It was not too hard to do!

Great home, great terrace, helpful owner

This house is exactly as it is shown on the HomeAway site. Great pool, wonderful view, helpful owners. We stayed in this house for a week, and visited Granada, Malaga and the beach. On other days, we stayed at the house for reading, swimming, relaxing, or went for a walk in the neighbourhood (there's a castle). The surroundings are very Spanish, we had delicious tapas in one of the neighhouring villages. The owner is very helpful, and their contact here in Spain as well.

From the house you can visit a large number of places, from the local old moorish ruins of El Castillete, just a walk from El Molino, to The Caves of Nerja at only 45mins away or skiing in Sierra Nevada just over one hour away, maybe canyoning in Rio Verde near Almunecar about 30 mins away. Almunecar also has diving facilities and a good water park.

The beautil town of Granada with the old Moorish quarters, the Renaissance Cathedral and The Alhambra Palace is only 40mins away. For families I strongly recommend a visit to El Parque de las Ciencias.

Salobrena is a whitewashed town clinging to a huge rock, the most spectacular location on the Granada coast, with large white sandy beach and only 20 mins away from El Molino.

Almunecar is a very attractive coastal town particularly popular with Spanish holiday makers in the summer. The sea front is a mixture of beaches, coves & headlands typical of the Costa Tropical. The night live here is very popular with lots of bars by the sea. Bear in mind that night live in Spain starts at midnight.

Worth visiting at just about 1 hour driving from the house are the Villages in Las Alpujarras: Orgiva, Bubion and Pampaneira had the most stunning views and great walks.

The town of Malaga with its museums and palaces is only 1 hour away on the motorway.

A bit further but also possible to drive from the house, the beautiful and historical towns of Sevilla and Cordoba are about 3 hours drive.

Further Details:

You will find in the village of Guajar Faraguit a small but well stocked supermarket, 2 bakeries, a bar, a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy and bank with cash point.

Bar Parada is the local restaurant and pub but you will find plenty of shops, restaurants & bars in the historic coastal town of Salobrena.

The near village of Velez de Benaudalla have a couple of Cafes and restaurants with good choices, such as Cafe Bar Carmenes and specially recommended Meson Nacimiento for very good Spanish cuisine.

In Motril, at about 17km from the house, you can find a lots of shops including a hypermarket, fashion, restaurants, tapas and pubs. Motril also offers great nightlife with a good number of "chirinquitos" local restaurants and bar in Playa Granada running all night parties.

Watersports can be found in Salobreña and specially in Almunecar, including diving and canyoing; not forgetting skiing at the Sierra Nevada at only 50km away.

A House Damage Security HDS is require on arrival, fully refundable if not damages are found. If damages to the house or its furniture including the pool and carpark areas are found, the HDS will be use to pay for repairs, any remaining money will be send by bank transfer.
