Farmhouse near Montalto, Le Marche, Italy - Spectacular Views In Rural Location

Casa Leone is a beautiful detached farmhouse set in the rolling hills of Le Marche. It was lovingly restored to a modern yet traditional standard and has just had a new kitchen extension which has wonderful views over the pool. There is a shaded outside terraced eating area with breathtaking views stretching across vineyards for al fresco eating with the spectacular Sibilini Mountains on one side and the picturesque, nearby village of Patrignone on the other. The private swimming pool is surrounded by travertine marble, with sunbeds and parasols. There is a decked shaded area with outdoor sofa & chairs for when the sun gets too much, where a hammock sways in the trees, and a table tennis table for when you are feeling energetic. Inside is a table football and a good selection of DVD's and games are available. The local village is only 10 minutes walk away and has a good supermarket and bar/restaurant. The town of Montalto is 5 minutes drive and has all amenities such as a bank, pharmacy and restaurants/bars. The house is looked after by a local English couple who live a short distance away.

We feel that our house offers the best of both worlds. Essentially a rural location but with a village only a 10 minute walk away and the coast a 30 minute drive

About the Owner

We live in Cambridge UK with our son who was born in the year 2000. We both work but like to travel as much as possible and we first visited Italy in 2003. We came across Le Marche whilst looking for an unspoilt area in which to buy a property.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Le Marche is a beautiful area with great food, weather and prices, plus lots to see and do and the villa location and pool were the icing on the cake (M Weir June 12)

The area was a very pleasant surprise and you have a true gem of a villa and magnificent location. Dawn and team are to be complimented – the property was immaculate. Thanks very much and we shall all recommend your lovely home to our friends and colleagues. (Ann Tunnicliffe July 11)

We had a great holiday in Le Marche thanks in no small part to the quality accommodation at Casa Leone. We are fairly experienced travellers in Italy but Le Marche is as good as it gets. Thanks again. Alastair Robertson (June 11)

Casa Leone is the perfect property in the perfect location. Immaculate villa with breathtaking views across vineyards and snow capped mountains. A most relaxing experience. Dave,Denise,Greg, Chloe and Zara Munro (July 2010)

Amazing views!

  • 4 of 5

Views from the windows and pool area of this home are stunning, as seen in the online photos. We took hundreds of photos with differing light - all gorgeous.

Best thing about the house - the kitchen - huge windows looking onto the pool, and the hills around. Well appointed with pots, dishes, etc.

House situated between fields - vines on one side, other crops on the other. You can hear chickens down the road, particularly, for some reason, late in the afternoon (feed time?). The bedrooms are a good size - with great storage (brighter bedside lights would be nice). There are 2 bathrooms, one at the front of the house near the 2 "adult" bedrooms, but down 3 steps. Small shower (no bath). The other bathroom is off the living room, which is separated from the bedrooms by a series of up and down stairs - making it unlikely to be used in the middle of the night. That bathroom has a bath.

Nearby ( a 5 min. drive) there is a small grocery store, well-stocked, but with typically irregular Italian opening hours (meaning it is closed in the PM, closes early on Thursday, and possibly open only in the AM on Sunday). A bit further up, in the town of Patrignone, there is a bar serving coffee, lunch, afternoon drinks and snacks, and good pizza after 7:30. Apparently, the pizza is available for takeout. There are also shops in Montalto, which is up the hill, and some seriously twisty roads. It has a butcher, pretty good bakery selling nice pizza slices, a small grocery store, a few bars, a good green grocer and a pharmacy (which was never open when we checked). Montalto had the best market of the Italian towns we visited this summer, although we were told that the St. Benendetto one (about 30 minutes south, along the coast) was huge.

We visited Petritoli, on a Sunday PM when almost everything was closed, Ascoli, which was beautiful, the beaches at Grottamare and St. Benedetto, plus drove up to Civitta Nova, which is a much more modern town.

We ate at Due Pini, just on the other side of the house, fun - we spoke to some Dutch visitors/locals, and were greatly entertained by a rowdy sports club having a celebratory dinner. LOTS of antipasti the best of which was the red and white pizza - amazing crust. There are choices in pasta and meat- we learned from the local Dutch fellow to share all the courses - otherwise you will have way too much.

TIP - get off the A 14 at Grottammare for Montalto, vs. Pedaso, to avoid many twisty roads.

Beautiful private property and pool

  • 5 of 5

The Property is beautifully equipped, with modern comforts, plenty of outdoor lounging areas and totally private. There are stunning views across vineyards to traditional Italian medieval towns with ancient bells ringing in the distance. A welcome pack of bread, milk, butter and jam was a lovely surprise. Excellent wifi to keep teenagers happy. Arrival and departures very straightforward. Restaurants are limited in the area but a drive to Grottammare for wonderful seafood by the beach is only a half hour away. A convenient supermarket up the hill has all the essentials to make an appetizing meal on the terrace. The property was exactly what we wanted and as described on the website and lived up to its pictures. The owners were very accommodating and efficient. We will hopefully be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to write this great review, it is really appreciated. With regard to restaurants, there are of course 2 excellent restaurants that are within walking distance of the house, and quite a few more that are within a short drive so that you don't have to go as far as Grottamare. There is a full list in the house.

Our second visit to this beautiful villa. Great facilities with a fantastic kitchen with all you could possibly need. So much to do in the local area including local villages to explore, the Sibillini Mountains, Ascoli Piceno with it famous piazza and more or just relax round the pool with a book. A wonderful week.

Modest & enchanting

  • 5 of 5

The holiday for us was slightly daunting setting out; we had never driven abroad & having special dietary requirements, Coeliac disease means eating safely can often be a real challenge. Dianne had mentioned Patrignone has lots of local produce, farmers markets & of course our own facility to cook safely. To our surprise; the local supermarket had a gluten free section - more substantial than some places in the UK!

We were advised to rent a car and so Dianne gave us really clear and easy to follow directions to the property. We also took a satnav for the chance to explore but not get too lost on those winding mountain roads!

Pulling down the driveway to the view over the pool and back garden is a moment we will never forget- everything we could see inspired our impulsive itinerary for each day we spent in Le Marche.  Vineyards followed by cascading farm land with Rotella in the distance; and on the skyline the wonderful snowy tops of Monti Sibillini National Park.

Places we visited; Grottammare; Civitanova; Visso (Sibillini National Park) Sirolo/ Riviera del Conero & Portonovo. All equally enchanting!

Although our travels provided many highlights- we also decided to stay local mid-week and ran a ten mile route across the surrounding farmland. A great way to get to know the area.

We visited market on Wednesday morning with a coffee in Montalto, as suggested in the visitors book left on our dining table on arrival (very thorough & inspiring might i add). We love food & wine, so the local produce and wine merchants succeeded our anticipation! The restaurant we visited in Patrignone; Il Mattino Dei Maghi has 4.5 stars on trip advisor; and it did not disappoint. A very welcoming owner sat with us and told us all we needed to know about the area history and where we should go on our next day trip.

Things we loved about the house: The kitchen; kitted out with everything we use at home- not a missing utensil. Morning espresso on the Portch. Small touches that made it feel like a home - dvd's, table tennis, cookbooks & cooking spices & Wifi. Not to mention total privacy; the house and grounds are almost invisible from the rest of the town.

We are great believers in experience coming from yourself - so whatever you want from this property & area, it will give back so much more than you could ever anticipate; provided that you are willing to be the catalyst in the process. Be inquisitive and you will not be disappointed!

Superb

  • 5 of 5

This superb rural farmhouse, has just undergone an extension that now boasts a fantastic kitchen that over looks the pool area (great for watching children) and amazing views of the countryside.

The villa is very well equipped inside along with 2 covered terraces outside to take in the views.

Excellent relaxing holiday, would highly recommend.

Overall a great holiday

  • 4 of 5

Lovely villa with everything you need provided. The outdoor area is spacious with different areas to spread out in and great views over vineyards and the mountains in the far distance.

Le Marche is still unspoilt, still reasonably cheap and there are some great restaurants.

Our first holiday in Italy was to Tuscany and it was here that we decided we wanted to buy a house for restoration. We looked around a few areas and eventually decided on Le Marche because it wasn't too developed and had great variety such as coast, mountains and beautiful countryside.

Facilities

From the Owner

The main reason we chose the house is because it is private but situated a few minutes walk from the local village and it has the most amazing views if the Sibilini Mountains. There is the village church in the distance on one side and vineyards on the other. The main town is only 5 minutes drive away and the coast 30 minutes. We think it has the best of both worlds without being too remote.
