Villa With Private Pool And Stunning Sea Views

Updated: 16-Oct-2016
Villa in Monastiraki, Lassithi, Eastern Crete - Rural Location Village Life, 10 Min. Drive To Beach

Monastiraki is a tiny settlement with only a handful of residents, but its position makes it a wonderful holiday location. Set among olive groves, the well appointed villa is an ideal relaxing base for any type of holiday. Private pool. The beaches, shops and tavernas are just a short drive away. In fact, two of the most charming tavernas is only a short walk away. The small taverna of Kapitanos Yiannis who serves the most delicious, fresh food, cooked by his wife Sophia and another owned and the other by Babbis who who provides Greek food with a refreshing modern slant. These are reached by walking through the recently renovated village lanes. All in all a great location and a delightful villa to spend your ideal holiday. EOT Licence 1040K91002898201

About the Owner

We are an English couple from Norfolk. We like spending time in the sun and a little away from the beaten track. Minoan Villa is just perfect for this and the presence of the two wonderful Tavernas in the village make this a perfect place

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are now back in UK. We had an amazing holiday. The villa was perfect and very well provided. We thought that the pictures on the website do not capture the beauty of either the villa or the location. We thought that the garden is magnificent. Monastiraki is also a very charming village. All your recommendations were very good. Niki also has been fantastic.

The new taverna at Monastiraki (Kapilio) is excellent and also we liked Zorbas at Pahia Ammos. Another good recommendation, for the south cost, is taverna Psaropoula between Koutsoneri and Ferma. It has a magnificent beach and the taverna provides free umbrellas and beds without having to eat there. We have added this information in our comments in the visitor’s book.

Thanks a lot for a fantastic holiday.

'A delightful villa, wonderfully equipped, surrounded by notable scenery. Good facilities with the added interest of history and the Cretan culture. Delicious food at the taverna – loved the dolmades and visits to the bakery. As keen bird watchers – sighted our first Eleanora’s Falcon – another one to our list! Fantastic. Returning home refreshed and brown and very thankful' - Greg and Janice.

'What a blissful 2 weeks in paradise, so hard to go home! Everything about the villa has been perfect, all we could have wanted has been thoughtfully provided. The pool is great the beautiful garden and a view to die for.At Captain Yiannis’ taverna we tasted wonderful Cretan cuisine, so fresh and well cooked we visited often. Also Zorba’s Taverna in Pachia Ammos a fine family run taverna with an extensive menu to suit all tastes.Tholos beach was beautiful and lunch at the small taverna was delicious. Many thanks to Suzanne and Alistair, so kind and helpful. Liz & Nigel July 2008.

Beautiful villa in a secluded area of eastern crete

We had a very enjoyable week here, the villa is spacious and well equipped, the local village has two great taverna and friendly locals. A short drive to the local facilities and beaches.

Lovely villa, amazing view, perfect holiday!

  • 5 of 5

This is the first time we have used Owners Direct but I will definitely use them again. This villa is lovely, it far exceeded our expectations. The photos don't really do it justice, the view from the pool is amazing, all the way to the see with the mountains behind us.

The villa itself has everything you can need for a holiday and Mark was so helpful before we went organising a high chair for our daughter. Beach / pool towels were provided too which is rare and saved us so much room in our suitcases. I really couldn't fault the villa we were so comfortable there, even down to the games / cards / DVDs / books provided. Mark and Nikki have thought of everything.

It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and was cleaned again midway through our stay. The pool was cleaned every day for us and was just lovely.

We have young children and I was nervous before we went about the pool, but the villa and outside terrace are gated off from the pool itself so we felt very safe to let the children run around knowing they could not get to the pool area without us opening the gate.

Although the villa is in a seemingly remote location, in the mountains with outstanding views. There are two lovely tavernas only a five minute walk away. The two coasts are also only a five minute drive one way and a 15 minute drive the other. There are plenty of beaches nearby if you want therefore.

We found the area perfect, there are lots of things to do and see if you want, from boats trips, caves, beaches and mountain villages. But if you just want to relax in the sun by the pool it's perfect for that too! You'd be hard pushed to find a pool with a better view!

I wish I was still there and we will definitely return!

Lovely villa

  • 5 of 5

A lovely villa located with great views in a quiet location. The listing accurately describes the property and it had everything required. We enjoyed using it as a base to get out and about quite widely, but the villa, pool and facilities were welcome to go back to. Well recommended for a quiet and relaxing holiday

A wonderful holiday.

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in Eastern Crete and what a marvellous stay we had. The villa was perfect for those wanting a quiet getaway in stunningly beautiful surroundings. It had everything we needed. The view from the poolside was just gorgeous and we would sit there with a glass of wine every evening and just watch the sun dip behind the mountains. There was also the local Taverna, run by Captain Yannis, which offered some wonderful traditional Cretan food. We can't wait to come back. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Perfect Holiday - Superb Villa

  • 5 of 5

The Villa was superb, exceeded our expectations. We have stayed in a few Villas over the years, but Minoan Villa is by far the best, We loved where it is situated, our idea of Heaven.

The villa has everything anyone could need for a holiday and everything was to such a high standard. It was lovely.

The Pool and Gardens are beautiful and when we were ther the flowers were just coming into bloom.

Nikki who called each day to check the pool was very helpful, even though her English is limited (better than our Greek!) She had left us a plate of home made cakes for our arrival, which we thought was very kind.

The two Taverna's in the village are good and we also went to Zorbas in Pachia Ammos, which was also good but our favourite was Porto on the front in Pachia Ammos. Good food, lovely staff and very good wine.

Mark and Nikki were really helpful with info before we left for Crete, which was a great help, especially with the info about the market in Lerepetra, well worth a visit, the fruit and veg is so cheap and fresh is easy to over stock.

We loved our holiday, the helpfulness of Nikki in Monastiraki and Mark and Nikki in the UK help to make it super. We hope to go back again.

Underbar vecka på Kreta

  • 5 of 5

From the Owner

We bought the villa as the perfect get away for quiet relaxation. The villa is a perfect base for exploring eastern Crete. We came across it by accident and fell in love with it.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Pachia Ammos at 3 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Heraklion at 54 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Captain Yanis at 100 Metres Nearest Beach : Pachios Amos at 3 Kilometres Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

The area can delight many tastes and interests. Minoan history is just on the doorstep. Walking in the area is stunning and you can start your walk from the villa and go into the Thripti range. For those more energetic and experienced the Ha Canyon starts from Monastiraki and is one of the most challenging gorges in Europe.

The birdlife is very varied, particularly as we are on the migration routes from Africa. Guests have been amazed by the variety of birds they have seen in the area, from the smallest warblers to the giant Griffin Vultures.

Monastiraki is at the foot of the Thripti mountain range which is one of the best sites in Crete to see a wide variety of Orchids. Alistair and Suzanne can assist you in these areas as they have a great interest in the nature of Crete.

Olive oil is one of the main agricultural products of the area. Although the olives are collected in the winter, there is much to do throughout the year if you want to experience how things are done.

One of the advantages of Monastiraki’s location, between the North and South coasts is that both are easily accessible. Within 10 minutes drive you can reach the North coast at Pachia Ammos, with its beach, little harbour and a selection of fine taverns. From there you can turn West to Istron and on to Agios Nikolaos and Elounda.

Turning east you drive along the Cretan Riviera through wonderful villages such as Kavousi and Mochlos.

Nearest airport is Heraklion. It is a 1 hour 15 minute scenic coastal drive from the airport to the villa. A hire car is essential although there is an excellent bus service from the main Ierapetra to Agios Nikolaos road. We can assist with car hire recommendations and if you do not wish to drive from the airport we can arrange to collect you.

The villa is 5km from Pachia Amos. 10 km from Ierapetra, 38 km from Agios Nikolaos. the villa is 15 minutes from the ancient town of Gournia and 5 mins from Vasiliki. The islands of Spinalonga and Chrissi are a must and are within an easy drive.

Further Details:

Despite its rural, location the nearest supermarket is only 15 minutes drive. The nearest taverna 2 minutes walk. The village shop in Pachia Ammos, less than 10 minutes away sells almost everything you could need. Being between the coasts this is an ideal base for exploring, if that’s what you want. The east part of Crete offers a wide range of holiday possibilities, not just the beaches. The wide variety of flora and fauna, many only found only on Crete. Particularly in Spring the wild flowers are a delight, especially the Cretan Orchids. Locally, there are colonies of Griffon Vultures and as we are on the migration route from Africa there are many species to be seen. There are many walkable gorges in the area if this takes your fancy.

From the Owner

We really enjoy the local village life, local food and stunning views. Minoan Villa gives you access to to Agios Nikoaos, Lerapetra and the East end of Crete. If you want a villa in an estate of villas with a tourist trap high street, then this is not the place for you. If you want a peaceful mountainside villa with (we think) one of the best tavernas in Crete within staggering distance, stunning views and wildlife and easy acces to the sea, both North and South and a gentle cooling breeze then this is the place for you.
