About the property

Apartment in La Tamarissière,Ground floor 50m From Unspoilt Long Sandy Beaches

Converted in 2005 from the famed Hotel-Restaurant La Tamarissière on the river L'Hérault estuary, this modern ground floor apartment in a secure private Résidence 3 miles from Agde is just 15 mins/4 miles from Beziers airport. Cafés, bars, restaurants and shops for everyday needs within a minutes walk or jump on the cross-river ferries for a daily market and other shops. The apartment makes an ideal base to simply enjoy our local sandy beaches, visit the Canal du Midi or tour the Haut Languedoc National Park and celebrated vineyards in St. Chinian & Faugères. Its position on the banks of a beautiful river with the fun of taking a boat to go shopping, plus beaches right on the doorstep makes it a genuinely great setting for relaxed seaside holidays.

About Tony Redman

Now retired I spent 40 years in the UK seafoods industry including extensive travel in France promoting export sales and in the process, getting to know much of the country. After holidaying with my wife in several regions we chose the unspoilt Hérault coast in the Languedoc to buy a family holiday home and thoroughly enjoy our frequent visits.

Tony Redman purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Tony Redman chose Cap d'Agde area

We stayed here when the building was a wonderful Hotel and Restaurant owned by the local Albano family so when they retired and redeveloped it into appartments we jumped at the chance to acquire one. Our flat includes a large part of the indoor Dining Room and our patio formed part of the wonderful outdoor Terrasse restaurant.

What makes this apartment unique

We always found La Tamarissiere truly exotic with it's mix of older villas & fishermens cottages, unspoilt beaches and a beautiful busy river. Sitting on the terrace watching the boats go by, plus views of the sea a short stroll away has always been simply a delight.

Fabulous views of the river from the terrace!

  • 5 of 5

Loved our week in this apartment. It was extremely hot, but the terrace was lovely and shady in the late afternoons and evenings. Lots of boats to watch coming up and down the river. We had planned on sightseeing trips around the area, but were mainly just content to watch the world go by. A whole minute's walk in one direction to a small, but very good, selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Or, for a bigger choice, you can get one of the little ferries across the river. Two minutes in the opposite direction is a very nice beach.

The apartment itself was beautifully clean when we arrived and the bottle of wine was much appreciated - as, of course, were the other refreshments in the fridge! All the extras like dishwasher and washing machine tablets, amongst many others, were there in the cupboard.

All in all a really good find - we couldn't fault it. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone and, if heading down to this area again, we would definitely try to book this accommodation.

Ticks every box and many more!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful well equipped apartment with comfortable beds, air conditioning and a shady outside space for meals in the dappled sunlight. A gently shelving beach with crystal clear water just a few minutes walk away. Use of a good sized, clean swimming pool. Wide selection of restaurants within walking distance or via a charming boat ride across the river. Plenty of activities for all ages. Excellent and attentive service from the owners. All contributed to a fantastic holiday for all the family!

An unspoiled corner of France

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful place. The apartment was very well equipped , comfortable & in a great location over looking the river & with a lovely beach a few minutes walk away. There were small local shops & restaurants nearby & a 3 minute ferry ride across the river to a lively little town with a daily market. There were plenty of opportunities for water sports & boat trips . All in all an idyllic spot.

Wonderful apartment in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We spent fantastic week at La Tama with our two young and hyperactive boys. The flat is very well equipped, but for us the biggest selling point is the location. The beach is less than a five minute walk, where you will find a beautiful and pretty quiet beach. The sea was warm and being very shallow, perfect for kids. The apartment has a stunning view over the estuary - perfect for long lunches and enjoying a glass of vino whilst the sun sets. The swimming pool was great and luckily we had it pretty much to ourselves for the entire week. Local restaurants all good, especially La Tamaris. All in all a fabulous week. Very relaxing with lots to do and see. The owners were VERY accommodating and helpful.

A wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

I just want to say how much we enjoyed our week at your apartment... It ticked all the family boxes and literally had everything we needed, a real home from home place to stay. We loved eating out on the terrace and watching the world go by. We were also blessed with beautiful weather for the whole week, enjoying time at both the beach and the swimming pool.

We even hired a little boat and took it up the river! The cycling was wonderful and so easy to join the Canal du Midi after cycling to Agde.

Such a lovely spot to stay, with lots to do... the boys... both big and teenage very much enjoyed the karting!

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

La Tama's unspoilt sandy beach just 100 metres stroll away extends several Km including beach-guard-supervised stretches during the main July/August season. The riverbank and seawall areas towards the nearby Lighthouses are both

popular with keen anglers and boat excursions are available locally to go upriver and along the Canal du Midi, or by sea along the coast towards Sete.

Travel:

Fly to Beziers, Perpignan,Carcassone,Montpellier for closest airports, otherwise consider Nimes,Toulouse or even Girona 100 miles just over the Spanish border. Driving from Calais takes about 10-12 hours. A car is recommended to tour the region but in season is actually not essential for just a great seaside stay. Also worth checking TGV trains e.g. St.Pancras & Ebbsfleet to Agde or Béziers can be done in about 7 hours (via Lille is simplest but via Paris and/or Montpellier for greater frequency)

Distances:

5 mins drive to Agde, 30 mins to Sete (superb),25 mins to Beziers(a delight), 50 mins Clermont L'Herault (the Cevennes foothills) Perpignan, Carcassone & Montpellier are about 60 minutes. Toulouse is 2 hours, Nimes & Avignon 1.5 hours. Barcelona about 3 hours. Cap d'Agde 20 mins. Agde has trains to Beziers,Perpignan,Toulouse or Sete & Montpellier.

Further Details:

Four bars/bistros within 200m walk, two of which serve breakfast. All offer various good-value bistro food and the K'Lamar specialises in Tapas/Spanish cuisine. A superb Deli shop is within 100 metres offering top quality meat, cheese, fruit & veg, wine plus daily cooked specials making cooking for yourselves really quite unnecessary! Also a small supermarket for basics, 2 bread shops, ice-cream kiosks and in high season several other take-away food outlets such as pizzas, chicken, chips etc. There's a cash machine opposite the shops and another one over the river in the main square next to Spar. Otherwise the banks are in Agde: nearest Post Office is over the river in Grau d'Agde and a main post office in Agde itself with car park bang opposite, right next to the main Credit Agricole Bank. Along with Restaurants in La Tama on the banks of the river, we also have a large variety of other Cafés, Bars and Restaurants on the opposite riverbank (Grau d'Agde) reachable by passenger ferryboats 50 metres from our apartment. As well as our own superb sandy La Tama beach, there are also long beaches stretching from Grau d'Agde all the way to Cap d'Agde. Leisure activities within reach include horse riding, Jet-Skis, sea-fishing ; there's also golf, sailing and a wide range of other diverse water sports based at the lively Cap d'Agde resort some 20 minutes drive away. There are loads of leaflets and notes in the flat for you to browse. Our waterside setting with fun river ferries and just a gentle stroll to the beach or restaurants(no drink/drive issues) make us a truly sought after unique holiday location.
