Condo in the heart of Lagos Old Town, Western Algarve - Sun Splashed Roof Deck in the Heart of it All

Next to the Church of San Sebastian, we occupy a premier position at the highest point in old town Lagos. From our roof deck you can look down on the Plaza Gil Eanes, the very heart of Lagos, or out over the Atlantic. There is an uninterrupted view of Lagos, the beach and the undulating historic west wall. It is a short walk to the grand beach of Meia Praia or the more intimate cliff protected beach of Dona Ana. There is free parking near the Church or just outside the wall and we are a 12 mins walk from the train station and about 5 mins from the bus depot. We are a half block from an internet cafe and within sight of some of the best restaurants in Lagos, as well as several grocers. As for the bars, we are not so close that you can hear the noise, but near enough to walk the few mins home and watch the sun rise out of the Atlantic. They load up the Land Rover with surfboards right behind us and it's not 10 minutes to golf.

The accommodation was in a great location, In walking distance of beautiful beaches and good restaurants. I loved sitting on the veranda outside looking up at the San Sebastian Church close by and listening to the bells. The property was well maintained and has a good space on the roof terrace with incredible views of Lagos. Will be recommending to friends and family

Charming apartment conveniently situated.

We really enjoyed our week in Lagos staying in in this charming apartment. It had everything we needed, was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The roof terrace is a fantastic place to be with extensive views over Lagos. It is situated in a quiet street but is close to all that the town has to offer; we loved the marina, shops and the huge choice of bars and restaurants. And we loved the church bells next door! The housekeeper, Therese, met us on arrival to show us around and provide information about the apartment and town; what a lovey lady! We would love to go there again and would not hesitate to recommend to others.

Convenient apartment in the centre of Lagos

Situated within the old city of Lagos, the apartment is close to all that Lagos has to offer. It was easy to walk to the marina and beach and the town is always lively with plenty of places to eat.

The apartment we found to be very comfortable and offered everything that we expected, when we arrived we were met by Teresa who kept the property clean and tidy to a very high standard.

We had a really nice week and managed to visit Silves and Monchique. We would love to go back to Lagos and wouldn't hesitate to use the apartment again, for us it was perfect!

The most relaxing place!

My fiancé and I stayed for 9 thoroughly relaxing nights at Madeline's place. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the house keeper, who gave plenty of information on local bars, restaurants and which are the best beaches!

The apartment itself was clean, airy and bright, with comfortable beds, and all the necessities for a very relaxing self catering stay. In addition, it was close enough to the bars & restaurants, that we could visit them, but far enough away that we could not hear anything at night. We mainly enjoyed sunset on the roof terrace with a nice glass of local vino verde, the view is breathtaking!

The BBQ on the balcony is an excellent addition, with a well stocked, and very affordable fish market a mere 5 minutes walk away, we simply cooked fresh food on the BBQ nearly every day.

Madeline was quick to respond to any questions we had before our stay, and was very helpful with advice on the area.

Lagos is a great area, I hope to return in the near future!

Location

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The beach of Meia Praia is about a 10 min walk over the river via a nearby footbridge, or shorter via boat across the channel.The fort and town beach are a short walk down the promenade. The cliff beaches are easily accessed on foot across from the fire station, Dona Ana being the largest is a twenty minute walk. There are many little coves accessible by steps in the cliffs between town and the lighthouse at Ponta da Piedade. Many are serviced by restaurants.

Travel:

Faro airport is well laid out and very organized. For less than ten euros you can taxi to the train station in a few mins. Eight trains run to Lagos a day, about an hour and 40 min trip, for about seven euros a person. The Lagos train station is right behind the Marina building, a short walk into town. Via the A22 Motorway Lagos is about an hours drive from Faro. Car hire is not necessary but is available by the day less than 5 mins walk, over past the petrol station.

Distances:

Sagres and the end of the world is about a 20 min drive west of town. The coast north of Sagres is spectacular and rugged.

Further Details:

There is a little supermarket just next door and 2 larger ones a few mins walk. The nearest internet cafe is at the end of the block. There are several banks in the main plaza, along with many restaurants with English service. The Indian restaurants are all quite good but the best place to eat is all the local fish restaurants. The dolphin / grotto boat tours are a must see; check out the tour booths on the promenade along the river. There are charter yachts available as well as surfing and fishing excursions. The friendly guys at these booths can point you to almost any recreational activity you can imagine.

  • Notes on accommodation: Ideal for 2 couples or a family, there is lots of privacy and plenty for children to do nearby. There are a few permanent residents in the building and only one other rental, a few floors down with no access to the roof. The building is very private and quiet. The modern room controlled air conditioning works very well. Outside: The veranda had table and chairs and runs the length of the apartment and is a good spot to lounge in the afternoon sun. The roof deck has to be seen to be believed. There is a table and lounge sofas as well as sunbeds, stored on the roof. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Ample towels and linens provided. Extra Maid service can be ordered (included,cleaning when departing). There is a drying rack that can be set up on the veranda. No beachtowels. Other: A roof deck directly above the apartment equal in square footage with 360 degree views of the Atlantic and Lagos. Access restricted to our apartment.
