The careful and time consuming renovation of Casa Amari was completed during Easter 2007. With no expense spared, the resulting finish is quite simply astounding. Although the property can sleep up to 5 people, we suggest that it is best suited to couples or small families (The quality sofabed in the lounge could then be left closed for relaxing on). There is plenty of free parking close by. Our house manager is a very helpful English lady who lives nearby and is always on hand with advice and tips on where to go and what to do!

About the Owner

My wife Mel and I are both secondary school teachers. I teach at Holloway School in North London and Mel teaches at Notting Hill & Ealing School in West London. Mel's father is Italian and owns La Rosetta restaurant in Brentford and we all live nearby in Ealing. We met travelling in Bali in 1992, got married in the Italian church in Clerkenwell in 2000 and now have 3 young sons. We all love travelling and try to make the most of the school holidays. One place we have never got bored of is Southern Italy and we try to spend as much of the holidays there as possible!

After spending years travelling around Italy at various times of the year, about 9 years ago we decided to take the plunge and buy a holiday home in our favourite part, Puglia. The amazing food, beautiful weather and relaxed lifestyle drew us to the region. The stunning architecture, buzzing atmosphere and proximity to some of Italy's most stunning beaches brought us to the gorgeous town of Ostuni.

Nearest Airport : Brindisi at 25 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Many within a short walk at 50 Metres Nearest Ferry : Brindisi at 25 Kilometres Nearest Golf : San Domenico Golf at 20 Kilometres Nearest Train : Ostuni at 3 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : SS379 at 6 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Many within a short walk at 50 Metres Nearest Beach : Pilone at 7 Kilometres Car: recommended


The drive down to the sea takes around 10 minutes from the Old Town. There are several lovely beaches near Ostuni including the sandy Pilone 2 and the gorgeous Torre Guaceto, a WWF protected nature reserve.


Ryanair fly from London Stansted to Brindisi (approx 20 mins drive to Ostuni) or Bari (approx 50 mins drive). Alitalia fly from London Heathrow to both Brindisi and Bari. Easyjet fly from London Gatwick to Bari, as do British Airways. Car hire is available through Hertz, Europcar, National, Maggiore, Sixt and Targarent at both Brindisi and Bari airports.

It's possible to catch a train to Ostuni from either airport and get a taxi to the property from the station, or just simply get a taxi direct

Apart from the beautiful nearby beaches, one of the best things about staying in the centre of Ostuni town itself are the many gorgeous restaurants (which are surprisingly cheap!), stylish bars and cafes which are all within walking distance.

If you like the idea of getting purposefully lost wandering around the cobbled sundrenched streets of a medieval walled town, stumbling across amazing restaurants (with ridiculously low prices !) and trendy bars, whilst catching glimpses of turquoise sea through the gaps between the beautiful old whitewashed townhouses, then Ostuni is for you!

From the Owner

We bought Casa Amari in 2006, a year after we had bought our first house in the town, Casa Zumbini. We spent a year searching for somewhere that had real character, useable space, a private roof terrace and yet was only a few steps from the piazza. Casa Amari ticked every box. The fact it was located down a beautiful cobbled passage that is nice and quiet at night just topped it off!!

  • Notes on accommodation: The roof terrace and bedroom 2 are accessed through the bathroom. This is another reason why we recommend that this property is best suited to couples or small familes. A top of the range air conditioning system has been installed to heat/cool the main part of the property, however this does not extend to the single rooftop bedroom 2. Outside: The property has a beautiful private rooftop terrace with table and chairs, sunloungers and selection of lovely plants. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, linen and cleaning are all included. Our good friend Pauline who cleans the house changes the linen at the end of each stay/week (which ever is the soonest). Daily/midweek cleaning can be arranged if required (contact owner for prices).
