Jasmine Cottage - A Five Star Gem In Oughterard, Connemara Co. Galway

Overview

Property

Updated: 15-Jun-2016
Oughterard, Connemara, Co. Galway, Ireland - Surrounded by the grandeur of the landscape.

Connemara is a place to relax, where one can take a break from the busy world and feast one's eyes on the surrounding landscape of unspoiled natural beauty. Wake to the glorious sunrise and the sound of birds' song. Lough Corrib (at the end of the lane) is a world-famous haunt for anglers. A fine 18 hole golf course is just minutes away. A wonderful setting and ideal for exploring Connemra by day and the buzz of Galway city by night. This luxurious cottage is situated on one-half acres - on the same property as the main residence. You will enjoy your privacy in this romantic cottage. Amelia, the owner, is a cosmopolitan who has lived in France, Italy, London and California. Who better to show off the highlights of Connemara than a Joyce from Joyce Country - a name boldly imprinted on the map of Connemara. The ancient clan has been around forever...well, at least since 1169. Her knowledge alone is worth the trip.

This romantic cottage has been featured in many European magazines.

A warm welcome awaits you.

About the Owner

When I was young, all the world was beautiful to me, but Connemara was a great splendour. This heroic place with it's symphonic landscape has been the perpetual solace throughout my life. I lived in La Jolla, California for over thirty years where I worked as an Interior Designer. Returning home to Connemara I built my dream cottage on a hill overlooking Lough Corrib. As the writer H. Morton wrote in his travel book (In search of Ireland) "and you feel that if God chose a place to reveal himself it would be upon theses western hills at sunset when the whole hushed world is tense with beauty and earth seems waiting for a revelation".

If I can't find peace and tranquility here then it is not to be found. It will give me great pleasure to share this haven with you.

Heaven in Connemara!

  • 5 of 5

I was coming off of two years of a serious illness for my husband, plus his untimely death, and memorial services. I had also worked all through this period. I was looking for a place to just be peaceful and restorative yet not too remote. Amelia Joyce is a truly amazing host - such generosity of spirit, vibrancy and keen knowledge of Connemara, its history, culture and environs. She is a true delight! The Cottage is really more a mini-villa actually truly tastefully done and cozy, comfortable. It is a delight to just be able to sit in bed with a cup of coffee and look out one's window at beautiful Lough Corrib! Amelia provided great advice on places to visit and I delighted in interesting conversations and discussions with her about Connemara as well as current events. This place is a true treasure, conveniently located, but peaceful enough to regenerate anyone's spirit! Thank you Amelia for such a delightful place in which to unwind and for your wonderful hospitality. Pat

Dream holidays in wonderful Connemara

  • 5 of 5

We're just coming back from a 2 weeks stay in Amelia'a cottage: we couldn't be happier of our choice for our holidays!

Firstly, it was a great pleasure to meet Amelia! She's an adorable lady, who warmly welcomes her guests, does everything for them to feel like at home and gives a lot of advices/hints to discover the beauty of Connemara. Her love for her native land is obvious and she shares it with you!

Secondly, the cottage: a little gem! So cosy, so comfortable, so quiet...and what a view! We really loved the decoration and it was a pleasure to go back to our little house after a long day outside visiting or playing golf.

Thirdly, Connemara: soooooooo beautiful!!! Even if the weather was sometimes very cloudy and wet, we enjoyed the landscapes! In our TOP places, we won't forget Lough Nafooey, Delphi (go up to the cross!), Roundstone, Dog's and Gurteen Bay (2 gorgeous beaches with spotless white sand)...and so many other places! We enjoyed playing golf at Oughterard golf club (less than 10mns from the cottage) where we received a warm welcome and played on a course very well kept for an incredible cheap price (25€ for playing 18 holes...impossible to find in France!!). If you like playing links, we could recommend too Connemara Links golf club in Ballyconneely (50mns drive from the cottage - GF 60€) and amazing course in Strandhill, near Sligo (2h30 drive but worth going on a 2 days trip - 35€).

Finally, we loved too the village of Oughterard: very animated, several restaurants and pubs 2mns from the cottage with very friendly staff. Our favorites: we went several times to Powers Thatch and Breathnach's pubs. Very nice pub food! And for a nice gourmet dinner, we really enjoyed Hallorans restaurant. The chief is excellent...and so is the food!

A perfect host + a cosy cottage + a wonderful land + friendly people = AMAZING holidays!

Perfect for relaxing holidays

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is really perfect for relaxing holidays in Connemara. We arrived on a sunny day and enjoyed a quiet and beautiful view of Lough Corrib. On rainy days, the fireplace is just great.

Thanks to Amelia and her knowledge and enthusiasm about Connemara, we visited a few places, we wouldn't have found without her. Her recommendations for routes (and restaurants) are really good.

Thanks a lot Amelia for nice chats and interesting discussions!

SPLENDID PLACE/SPLENDID LANDSCAPE

  • 5 of 5

Well, it just does not get better than this!! Beautiful cottage, great location and views to die for. Description on website very accurate, cottage spotless and beautifully designed. Owner very welcoming, informative and great craic. Loved the cosy fire and such a comfortable bed with fine linens. Peaceful and quiet. Absolutely loved our stay and wished it could have been longer, but we will be back. No matter what the weather is like, this area is magical. Great place to relax and enjoy the walks and scenery. Dramatic mountains, beautiful lakes, secluded beaches and the light constantly changing the tone of the landscape. Yes it is "a little bit of heaven".

Connemara Gem

  • 5 of 5

The cottage far exceeded our expectations. Our every need was catered for to high standards. Its position lent itself to a perfect hideaway where the views of Lough Corrib mesmerrised you with its changing colours and the bird songs where the only sounds to be heard. Its owner Amelia was a host of the most. She offered so much to ensure our arrival and stay was welcoming and comfortable and she shared so much knowledge and history of her beloved Connemara that through her eyes we saw and experienced the best. We would highly recommend this cottage and location to all our friends relatives and acquaintances, in fact , we intend to return ourselves.
