Located in mature landscaped grounds Penyagolosa is in a quiet area yet only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Calella de Palafrugell, which is picturesque & unspoilt, with an excellent variety of restaurants, bars, shops and seven pretty coves to suit all ages. The Penyagolosa apartments contain a 25m swimming pool with paved sun-terrace, children’s pool, play area & tennis court surrounded by well maintained secure gardens. There is a resident parking permit. Our ground floor apartment has a living room with French doors leading to a private patio garden with secure fencing and gate. There are 2 bedrooms twin/double, well equipped kitchen & utility gallery,hi-fi,TV/DVD. The bathroom contains a bath & shower over. The nearby town of Palafrugell provides a daily fish & fruit market & a big market on Sunday am, lovely square for meeting, drinks, watching the local ‘sardanas’ dancing - interesting range of shops. 3 fine golf courses within 30 minutes drive. Spectacular coastal walks, water sports and diving. The apartment has Wi-fi access and there are a number of places close by for internet access in Calella.

About the Owner

Our family come from the North of England in Cumbria. We first enjoyed holidays in Catalonia over 50 years ago as children and we can honestly say that it still holds the same attraction to return every year as it is a very unspoilt part of the Costa Brava coast.Today, we always enjoy returning to beautiful Calella with our children and grandchildren. It is a perfect family holiday destination, with short flight times to Girona or Barcelona. Road links are now excellent. The apartment offers a cosy and quiet retreat with lovely pool and patio to relax and recharge. You immediately slip into holiday mode on arrival.

The complex is beautiful and so well looked after. My son & husband enjoyed quite a few games of tennis and we all had fun in the pool. This property was purchased by our Parents after they had enjoyed many years holidaying in the area. It is ideally placed close to all the amenities of Calella and just a few minutes walk to the beaches. We have loved bringing our children on holiday as they have grown up and now our three grandsons look forward to going to Calella for their holidays. They love the pool. tennis court, meals on the patio and going down for the morning croissants. We have always felt the apartment is safe and secure. We have particularly enjoyed the availability of the ground floor patio garden for sunbathing, meals and somewhere for children to play. Although very close to the front of Calella there is resident parking beside the apartment which is very convenient in the busier summer months.

Picturesque Sa Riera, views from restaurant El Far, San Sebastian, Pals and Begur, Coastal path walk from Calella to Llafranc.

Historic Peretallada, Gerona Old Town, Ullestret,Empuries, Pals (protected ancient restored town).

Art and culture at Castell de Peralada Music and Dance festival in July/August, Cap Roig world class Music Festival and Gardens, Calella(July/August - only 1 mile from the apartment) La Bisbal, Pottery ceramics for the house and garden . Dali Museum Figueras.

Food and Drink: Supermarket Grau Palafrugell, largest wine emporium in Spain, a joy for the wine-lover. Market in Palafrugell daily fresh fish and fruit/veg, on Sundays: much larger market with clothes, leather, country, stall-holders (until 1pm). Lovely patisserie ‘Serra’ in Palafrugell main square, with delicatessens and wines.

Coast/Beach:

Water sports are available in Calella and Llafranc. The 7 different coves and inlets of Calella (some with lifeguards and first aid tents) are great for children to explore with buckets and spades, collecting shells, climbing rocks etc and some of the beaches have bars on the beach which are open daytime and evening. Water is clean, safe and ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The rugged coastline around Calella is spectacular and there are lovely walks. Some beaches have a lot of steps down.

Travel:

Girona 45 min drive. Barcelona 90 mins drive on excellent motorway route from Barcelona to French Border. A7 approx 90 mins from French border. A car is highly recommended to explore this very picturesque area as there is so much to see and do. There is regular bus and train services for those unable to take a car. A coach service operates from Palafrugell.

Distances:

The town centre of Calella is 5 min walk. Palafrugell is 2 miles. There is a regular bus service. The nearest train station is Flaca between La Bisbal and Girona. It is a 15 min walk to Llafranc. Girona is less than an hour and is well worth exploring, magnificent cathedral and historic old town. It is the provincial capital. Figueras, birthplace of Dali and the Dali museum is 50 mins drive. Playa D'aro which has a great family water park is less than 30 mins away.

Further Details:

There are a number of cash machines in Calella town centre along with several small supermarkets. There are also several very well stocked supermarkets in Palafrugell, including excellent baby products, nappies,etc. so these can be bought on arrival rather than having to pack everything. Shops usually close during the seista period 1pm - 5pm then stay open during the evening. There is a very good tourist information centre in Calella near Port Bo, where it is possible to make reservations for restaurants, theatre tickets for music festivals, concerts etc and arrange taxis if required. During July & August there is a world class music/dance festival at the Botanical Gardens at Cap Roig. The number of good restaurants in the area is increasing, giving great choice and interesting local produce. The "menu del dia" usually offers excellent value and often includes wine, water & bread in the price. El Far at St. Sebastian gives amazing views over the whole area, with viewing points. The shops in Calella and Palafrugell offer very tempting "retail therapy", there are many markets in the surrounding villages and a fresh fish, fruit & veg market in Palafrugell daily. Information on a huge range of activities, restaurants, places of interest etc. are contained in the information brochures in the apartment. There is a TV with integral DVD player for your use. Please bring our own DVD's, especially for children. There will be a selection available, as well as CDs. There is a grassed playground for young children very close to the apartment on the way to the beach.

Booking Notes:
Clients must arrange their own flights, transfers, car hire etc. Prices are inclusive of water, electricity and cleaning. Bath & Hand towels, tea towels, bath mats excluding beach towels. One third deposit with booking, remainder to be paid 6 weeks prior to departure. Keys sent by owner before departure, with all relevant details. We request clients to replace items accidentally broken during their stay where possible or pay for replacement. Please telephone or e-mail to check availability.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday. There is a possibility of flexibility in low season. Guests are requested to depart by 10am (unless otherwise agreed). In order to allow for cleaning. The apartment will be made available for arrival at 4.00p.m.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Prices include cleaning, linen, towels (excluding beach towels), electricity and water. Special offers are sometimes available in the low season. Changeover day is on Saturday. Cot and highchair are available on request.

the apartment is set in well cared for mature gardens with a larger than average pool and sun terrace which never gets overcrowded and entertains our children for endless fun hours, allowing us some well earned relaxation! The pools and tennis courts are just a few yards from the front door. Over the years Calella has been sensitively improved without losing it's historic charm. There are some interesting boutique style shops and a choice of excellent restaurants and bars to suit all budgets and tastes. The apartment is under two miles from the famous Cap Roig Botanical Gardens which hosts an International Arts and music festival in July and August with world class performers. There are some fantastic walks with spectacular views over the coastline. Palafrugell is an interesting market town with daily fish and produce markets.

  • Notes on accommodation: The comfortable accommodation is very well equipped & has room fans. There are also fan heaters and radiators for out of season heating. Extra blankets and travel cot are available. highchairs can be arranged (extra charge) In the apartment there is an information brochure and box with regularly updated places to visit, maps, with recommended restaurants that we or other clients have visited to suit all budgets. There is a smoke alarm and fire blanket in the apartment. The apartment is serviced by an english speaking company and they respond quickly to any servicing needs. Outside: This is a ground floor apartment with pretty patio garden of approximately 40 sq metres, with fencing and secure gate, so very suitable for children. The patio is behind the apartment so provides a lovely quiet place to sunbathe or read. It is a great area to eat outside and for children to play. There is a,seating area with table and chairs, parasol as well as pretty plants and pots. Tennis: we have a range of tennis raquets available and courts have to be booked and accessed by key provided. The court is next to the pool and is surrounded by trees to provide some shade while watching the play. Set in very well maintained mature grounds, the shared pool is 25x12m with paved sun-terrace,and is rarely over busy. There is a small play area for younger children as well as a pool for toddlers. The pool is not available all year round- it is generally available from June to the end of October. Utility Room: Utility with large capacity water heater, washing machine, laundry basket, clothes airer, hanging space/hooks, garden tools, cleaning products, tool box Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen included: top and bottom sheets, pillows and cases, tea towels, bath mat, hand towel and bath towel for each client (not beach towels).
