Our 19th Century barn has been converted into two private spacious gîtes. Both gîtes have a ground floor double bedroom and ground floor wet room. Two further bedrooms on the first floor one double and one twin . Both gîtes have an open plan lounge leading to a kitchen / dining room and patio doors to the outside patio area. The outside areas to each gite have table and chairs for dining alfresco and sunloungers to relax near the pool.
I have lived in France now for 11 years with my husband Chris and three children Laura , Dan & Aimée. We have two dogs both strays that found us Ollie and Mojo, two cats, a rabbit, a budgie and sheep. I grew up in Manchester and then worked in travel after our first two children were born I gave up work and became a childminder so I could still earn but be at home with the kids. We talked for a long time about living abroad and finally decided to quit the rat race , sold up and moved to France in January 2004. Aimée was born in May and for the next 2 years we renovated and tried to get to grips with the language. Chris (once a bank manager) now has a gardening business. We have met so many lovely people through renting out the gîtes and hope we will continue to welcome many more guests in the future.
Bev & Chris Hutton purchased this barn in 2004
We found this area of France whilst we were on holiday. The people here were welcoming and friendly. We love the location as we are in a small hamlet in the countryside but close enough to Lezay for all the essentials. The area is flat so its great to cycle to the village and the roads are quiet. We are located in the south of the Deux Sevres close to the Vienne and Poitou Charentes borders not too far from the coast for a day out and with lots of activities and places to visit at hand.
Both gîtes are open plan and extremely spacious making them ideal for larger families or groups of friends. Each has its own private eating out area with a barbeque. We have made both gîtes wheelchair friendly too ! Each gîte has a double ground floor bedroom with ground floor wetroom. All bedding and towels are included the only exception are beach towels which we do not include.
Changeover day is Saturday however this is flexible for late bookings and for bookings outside school holidays. The accommodation will be ready for 4pm on the day of arrival and the accommodation must be vacated by 10am on the day of departure.
We have just returned from our wonderful 2 week holiday in Lezay and we stayed in Gite 2.We were a family of 4 (two adults and 2 teenagers )
The property was great, very spacious and clean, had everything there we needed. Bev and Chris ,the Owners ,were very friendly and helpful.
The pool was great and was very much appreciated especially as we enjoyed very hot weather during our stay.
We loved Lezay and the surrounding area.
Very warm welcome from owners Bev and Chris, making us feel welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. They were very helpful and relaxed.
The gite was easy to get around being smooth wooden floors for my husband in his wheelchair and the building remained cool when the weather was hot outside, with comfortable living space.
The bed was just a little smaller than we are used to being a standard 4ft 6in .Cozy ! but that is my opinion.
We were happy with everything, it's a very peaceful location and has a good local supermarket in village, for us, we wished we could have found more choice of local restaurants.
This was our eighth holiday with Bev and Chris, so we are very keen on returning to Les Cerisiers. The gite is as described, clean and well maintained, and more spacious than you would expect. Bev and Chris are on site, and can provide lots of info on places to visit, where to shop etc. Our car broke down one year, and Bev and Chris were very supportive with advice, phone calls.
The gite is very quiet-virtually no traffic noise except the odd passing tractor- so you really hear the birds sing.
The gite is very good for a wheelchair user. The ground floor is level access, including the main bedroom and en-suite shower room. The roll-in shower chair makes showering and bathroom use completely safe. There is enough space for the wheelchair to move around the bedroom, and huge space in the kitchen/dining room. The cooker is conventional but there is a good perch stool which allows a user with some leg strength to safely use the cooker.
If you want to a baguette, you have to nip out smartly when the baguette lady comes in her van, or drive to Lezay (2 km).
The weekly Lezay market is very good, and there are many attractions in Melle- some superb Romanesque churches ( Unesco world heritage site), medieval silver mines
Lots of towns for a day trip. Cognac - an excellent tour of the Hennessy distillery, and a wheelchair-accessible riverboat trip. Saintes is a lovely town and Angouleme has an excellent museum of the cartoon strip
We will be returning again in summer 2016, so we would certainly recommend it, especially to a group including a wheelchair user.
