Cortijo near Iznajar, Andalusia - Set In An Olive Grove in the National Park

This rural cortijo was restored to form a large and comfortable property split across 2 buildings. The rear building has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, the front building has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a huge kitchen/living room. Any booking has sole occupancy regardless of numbers. There's wifi, a washing machine, dishwasher and three boilers for hot water. 2 bedrooms have balconies and there's a central courtyard plus terraces around the pool and a table tennis table and bats/balls. Its hillside position affords stunning views of the Subbetica National Park and distant mountains. Set 2 miles from the hamlet of La Celada and 5 miles from the traditional town of Iznajar with its 19km lake, the house is well located for local restaurants and shops. Rute is 10 minutes away and the cultural city of Granada including The Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada are only an hour away. The Roman city of Antequera can be reached within 30 minutes, Cordoba is an hour away and Seville 1 hour 30 minutes. Airports at Malaga and Granada are also only an hour's drive and are linked to many UK airports.

Total tranquillity.

We stayed in this villa for 5 days in September 2014 & it was too short a visit by far. It's wonderful location in the middle of olive groves with nobody else around, provides the setting for a perfect quiet getaway. The villa itself is ideally suited for either a romantic couple or a family with a kitchen and dining area opening out onto a large pool area with spectacular views. The villa is finished and equipped to a high standard and all necessary provisions can be obtained after a short drive to the nearby village. We would highly recommend our friends and family to stay at this villa especially if they are in need of a complete rest. We would not hesitate in booking again and would look forward to another visit to that area in Spain.

Stunning holiday venue for parents and teenagers

The owners of this property have evidently spared neither expense nor sensitivity and skill to create a modern holiday house in the style of its traditional farmhouse origins, that is both incredibly comfortable and practical, inside and out.

Light and bright interiors flowing through and onto sun drenched terraces and balconies, and onto shaded areas, lending themselves to families sharing each other’s company around the pool or finding relaxing shady corners for own time, peace and quiet.

The view from the property is breath taking; to the hills in the distance and to the rock face behind, looking over thousands and thousands of olive trees.

The property nestles within the olive groves in almost an exclusively farming environment where the usual peace and quiet is occasionally broken by a barking farm dog or a tractor; or, visually, by an evening display of aerobatics by Alpine swifts and swallows, or stars in the unpolluted night sky.

The week we spent at Cortijo in August 2015 was utterly relaxing. Every meal we took at home was eaten outside, and the property’s facilities and situation kept us at home for the majority of the time. When a guilty conscience suggested we should explore further afield than just lazing around the pool, Iznajar (10 minutes away by car) provides a small town hill top cultural trip and restaurant and bars; the local village is a 15 minute walk away for a shop and a bar, and the lake (10 minutes drive) provides bar, restaurant, swimming, boating and tennis. Further afield are countless small towns for good restaurants, with Cordoba and Granada easily accessible for longer day trips.

We cannot recommend the property highly enough.

What a beautiful place !!!

This house, located in La Celada, is one of the most beautiful I ever saw. Very well located if you want to visit Andalucia inside country, but also, very peacefull place. Clean, modern, very well equiped, wonderful views and no neighbors. Best place on earth.

Simply Wonderful!

The views across the Olives groves towards Iznajar are simply breathtaking! The Cortijo was spacious, clean and well equipped. We loved the al fresco dining and especially the barbeque. Table tennis was an added bonus. All in all a very peaceful and relaxing holiday. We will be back.

1 hour's drive to a selection of beach resorts and water parks east and west of Malaga. To the east there are beaches at La Herrudura, Torre del Mar, Nerja and to the west, Marbella and Torremolinos

Travel:

1 hour's drive from Malaga airport and 45 minutes from Granada airport. A car is essential due to the rural position of the house.

Distances:

The hamlet of La Celada is 5 minutes drive and the town of Iznajar is 10 minutes drive. Set on a hill there is a beautiful castle and Church. Rute is 15 minutes away and has lots of shopping, regular markets and an excellent supermarket. The Roman city of Antequera is 30 mins where there is also a wolf park. The cultural splendour of Cordoba and Granada are 1 hour away, Seville 1 hour 30 mins.The Alhambra and ski-ing at Sierra Nevada are both 1 hour 15 minutes.

Further Details:

There are a selection of restaurants and bars in and around Iznajar including Cafe Verdi, Bar Rossi, El Charcon, a restaurant and hotel on the shore of the lake, Mecon de Naranja as you come into Rute and two excellent restautants in Salinas including the old railway station where you can eat alfresco on what was the station platform. These are all very good and offer great value. La Paloma near Salinas is a little more expensive, run by Italians and the food is superb. The kids can swim whilst you enjoy your lunch. There is also The Borbadilla 5 star hotel with three restaurants for a real treat but this is expensive. Worth popping in for a drink just to see it!
