Large mezzanine with far reaching views over countryside to the south. Secluded garden with large decked area, above ground pool, lawns and borders and separate breakfast terrace. A large covered parking area serves the gite. Gite De Pierre - With five tastefully decorated double bedrooms (2 on ground floor), 5 bathrooms (4 en-suite) within traditional stone built barn conversion. Separate lounge, dining room and fully fitted kitchen, large landscaped garden with pool and views over the countryside. Each gite has its own above ground swimming pool installed in summer 2013. Absolutely brilliant holiday for the family!

The gite was beautiful and exceptionally comfortable and clean! The surroundings were picturesque and the facilities provided were of an excellent standard, a home away from home. Plenty of activities to partake in from wire walking to kayaking to paint balling. Or for those more leisurely afternoons, visits to the historic towns for the lovely restaurants and fabulous scenery. The swimming pool was a bonus on the hot summer days and provided hours of fun for all the family! Joy and Colin were friendly and approachable hosts that were happy to help with any query. We are defiantly revisiting soon!

Brilliant summer holiday!

Well maintained, well equipped, clean property with plenty of parking. Great location for an 'extended family' gathering with loads of space for everyone inside and out. The garden was well used, providing shade and sun to suit all and enough of a grassy area to play softball games with novice batters! The patio had plenty of chairs, loungers etc. for holiday-makers content to supervise the BBQ! The pool was a fabulous asset, used every day and kept clean on an on-going basis by the owners.

Joy and Colin were the perfect hosts, there when needed for information and advice, even e-mailing events beforehand, but low key otherwise.

The area had a wide range of places to visit:- Domfront is a very attractive town with chateau and supermarkets [ food, wine and beer very good], a chateaux trail for history, nature lovers dream with Swiss Normandy and waterfall trails, exercise on the velotrack at Bagnoles d'Orne and the floral displays in St. Fraimbault were more than impressive! Plenty of information was available in the property to help with outing planning.

A wonderful holiday was had by all and I could certainly return to the property and the area and find new things to do.

A home from home

We had such a wonderful stay in the gites, we instantly felt at home and were made to feel especially welcome by Colin and Joy (who are always around if you need them, they have a great knowledge of Domfront and the surrounding areas).

The gite is so large and airy, we went as a family of 7 adults and 2 children so we were concerned we may be a bit on top of each other but this was not at all an issue; the living areas are spacious enough for everyone to fit comfortably and the ensuite bedrooms are spread out enough for everyone to have there privacy.

The garden is large, lovely and well maintained, complete with a patio, lawn, BBQ and a fantastic pool, perfect for a dip after a day in the sun!

The gites location is a definite plus point with domfront only a 5 minute drive away - perfect for picking up award winning crossants from the local bakery in the morning!

We will definitely be returning!

An excellent week

We had an excellent stay with friends at this Gite. The weather was mostly good. The pool was perfect for our needs. The owners were incredibly accommodating Domfront is lovely with some great places to eat. The coast at Correlles was fantastic but leave a good hour and a half to get there and you won't be disappointed.

Another great holiday .....

This was our 5th visit - which speaks for itself! - and we will be back again.

These are lovely gites (we have stayed in both) - very clean and comfortable. The garden is lovely and we made good use of the covered bbq area.

This was our first visit to the gites since swimming pools were installed, and the children were very impressed - they were used every day.

Colin and Joy are the perfect hosts. Not at all intrusive - but always on hand should you need their help / advice.

Although this is our 5th holiday in the area, we are still finding new places to visit or new things to see in places we have already visited! Some of our favourites are :

Granville - worth the drive for the lovely beaches in the area.

La Ferte Mace - 'man made' beach, lake, play area and forest walks.

Fosee Arthur - beautiful walks in the forest and around the lake - and a lovely café.

Bagnoles de l'Orne - lower part of the town has a lovely lake, park and nice restaurants etc. and forest park near the car park. The tourist train goes around the 'upper' part of the town where there is a really beautiful park and chateau (the town hall).

Domfront - medieval castle ruins, Notre Dame church. Pizza place on the main road into Domfront is very good, and the Bistro St Julienne is fabulous.

The owners are horse riders and breeders and can direct guests to a range of riding centres nearby and equestrian events during the summer months.

With abundant birdlife this is a nature lovers area par excellence.

A feature of the area is the production of pear cider and calvados - tours are easy to arrange with tastings.

Coast/Beach:

Domfront town dates back to the 11th century, the first fortification being erected on a sandstone promontory, which overlooked the Varene around 1010.

Domfront was surrounded with deep moats and an enclosed wall built by Guillaume de Talvas. For many centuries Domfront castle was one of France's strong holds due to its strategic position. Today it offers great exploring for young and old, through the winding cobbled streets.

Travel:

Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo are all 1.5 hours easy driving away. The roads are good from all 3 ports with Domfront placed on the Route National 176.

Calais is a 5 to 5.5 hour drive on very good roads.

A local bar / hotel - Le Cheval Blanc at La Chapellle d'Andaine (less than 10 mins drive) offers free wi - fi as does McDonalds at Flers (less than 20 mins drive) offers wi fi too.
