Peaceful Old Farmhouse
About the Owner
Guestbook comments from the owner
It was a great house, so well laid out, very quiet and relaxing. The garden was really lovely and the magnolia stellata looked beautiful in full bloom. Thanks again Sarah, Nord and Alice April 12.
I thought I would drop you a quick note telling you what a wonderful holiday we had at Clos Christina. It has got to be one of the most beautiful gites we have stayed in, and as we've been going to France for the past 11 years there's been a few. The gardens are so beautifully kept and the children had a great time on the swings and playing badminton. Henry Family July 2012.
I wanted to drop you a message to say how much we enjoyed our stay. It is such a cosy, comfortable home, and in such peaceful surroundings - there could not have been a better way to bring in 2010! Your directions and information were extremely helpful. Thank you very much. Anne Burgess Jan 2012.

Peaceful Old Farmhouse
Peaceful house and garden, great for a rest. Flexible accommodation with plenty of room and options for 6 or more. Everything clean and comfortable with everything needed for the house. Great fun working out how to get the range working properly. Fabulous wood fire for cool evenings. Very convenient for the coast as well as the country. Highlights Honfleur, Rouen centre and Monet's garden at Giverny (at its best in June). Bring your own loungers/deck chairs for the garden.
Wonderful quaint Gite
Fantastic rustic gite feeling like you are a million miles miles from everything. The garden is stunning and everything you need is in the gite ready for you. Loved the experience of cooking on the Stanley and the kids loved playing hide and seek. Thank you for letting us stay!
We had a lovely 4 nights at Clos Christina, the cottage is very picturesque, and very well equipped. It was fairly dismal weather but the cottage was warm, and the log fire a roaring success, so much so we stayed in on two evenings rather than venture out we loved it so much!
The garden is gorgeous, the sort of place kids would love, and the donkey next door is very friendly (although he had lost his voice).
The instructions from the owners were extensive and easy to follow, and we all slept very well.
I would suggest bringing slippers if you visit in the colder months.
The cottage is well appointed for visiting Dieppe, Rouen etc, I would love to visit again in the summer.
Quiet Time with Family
Family break with a 2 1/2 year old and the in-laws.
The house was perfect, in a very quiet area, but only a few minutes in the car to the local town, where you can get everything you need. Having the separate living areas allowed the in-laws to get some peace and quiet and not be woken up at 7!.
Weather was a bit cold for spending a lot of time outside, but would recommend a visit to Dieppe and sampling the seafood on offer in the restaurants along the harbour - being able to have Whelks as a starter was unexpected, but much appreciated!
Good area if you enjoy getting out on your bike.
If you fancy popping out for a quick drink, visit Pascal (nice man) at his small bar in Brachy, he was kind enough to keep it open past the usual closing time (7.30!) so that we could watch all the England v France rugby match.
A lovely few days and I'm sure we'll be back.
exactly what we wanted
We had a wonderful week of relaxation and fun times at this delightful cottage. The accommodation was exactly what we wanted with its homely rustic feel with bags of character. Our three year old boy loved the open space of the beautiful and private cottage garden which was great for hide and seek. The location is also excellent with nice local villages and markets just a short drive away. Highly recommended and can't wait to book another holiday there very soon.
A wonderful away-from-it-all
We had a lovely stay with three generations in this cosy cottage with its big garden. Visits to Rouen and the gardens in the neighbourhood are a must. We enjoyed the seaside and its impressive cliffs on beautifull days but it was not hard to spend time inside when it was raining with enough room for everybody to play games or read in front of the big fireplace. Our three boys (aged 9, 8 and 5) could not get enough of the garden to play football in their new (French) players outfit.
Activity and Interests
Quiberville is a 15-minute drive away. Enjoy wide sandy beaches at low tide, and the catches for sale at the fishermen's seafront stalls at any time of year.
The Pays de Caux is famous for chalk cliffs running from Etretat to Dieppe, providing a wonderful backdrop to a number of hidden beaches and coves, with sheltered water for rockpooling for your own oysters.
The small coast village of Veules les Roses is one of the prettiest villages in France, also with the shortest river at 1km.
Dieppe - ferry from Newhaven (Transmanche/LD Lines), 20 mins drive. Calais - ferries to Dover (P&O/SeaFrance) and Eurotunnel, 1 hour 45 mins drive. Boulogne - ferries to Dover (Speedferries/LD Lines), 1hr 30 mins drive. Le Havre - ferries to Portsmouth (LD Lines, 45 mins drive. Longueville sur Scie - trains to Dieppe and Paris via Rouen, 10 mins drive with easy parking.
The house, in the hamlet of Les Mesnils, is ideally located for a number of bustling characterful Normandy towns and places of interest:
Bacqueville-en-Caux - 5 mins. Luneray - 10 mins. Brachy - 5 mins. Rouen - 30 mins. Dieppe - 15 mins. Fecamp (Benadictine Distillery) - 35 mins. Etretat - 40 mins. Paris - 1 hour 45 mins. Train direct from Yvetot. Quiberville sur Mer 15 mins. Varangeville (Parc de Moutier) 20 mins. Giverny (Monets Garden) 1 hour 10 mins.
Normandy offers over 30 gardens to visitors, all within an hour's drive of Clos Cristina. Some of these are private and only open by request to visitors in June when they are of course at their very best. Two of the best are the Parc des Bois Moutiers, on the coast near Dieppe, where the house and gardens were designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Gertrud Jeykll, and the 'Parc Floral William Farcy, also near Dieppe, which is devoted to roses. A trip to gardens in this area would not be complete without a visit to Monet's gardens at Giverny, and on your return visit the 'Jardin des Plantes' in Rouen, which is of both botanical and landscape interest, with a 19th century orangery and a collection of medicinal plants and rare trees. Cycle routes and trails are well provided for in Seine-Maritime. Two routes pass right by the house in Les Mesnils and there another ten routes within 15 mins. Routes vary from short family routes to more strenuous rides of up to 50km.
To the French the essence of Normandy is its produce. This is the land of Camembert and Calvados, cider and seafood, and a butter-and-cream-based cuisine with a proud disdain for most things nouvelle. All of this can be found in local markets, farm produce stalls and local shops. Dieppe is rightly famous for its Saturday market and nearby Luneray provides something unique in France - shopping and retail opportunities on a Sunday. The famous French pizza van can usually be found in Bacqueville on Thursdays and Saturdays, and at a permanent site in nearby Brachy (park outside the Town Hall). Some of the best seafood in the world can be sampled at the harbour side bars and restaurants in Dieppe. More rustic fare is found nearby in some of the restaurants in the Foret d'Eway and the river valleys of the Varenne and Saane. Supermarkets and banks are available in the towns of Bacqueville and Luneray.

- Notes on accommodation: Arranged as two self-contained units, but rented as one, the ground floor house and its loft studio offer flexible family accomodation for all seasons. Both are well-insulated and cosy in winter, cool in the heat of summer. Furnishings are comfortable and tasteful, yet practical for family use. Antique oriental rugs on the ground floor lend a warm charm to the insulated terracotta tiling. While the loft studio is furnished to a more modern taste and carpeted throughout. Stable doors at the front and off the side of the building give immediate access straight onto the leafy garden spaces and play areas. The house is well arranged for children, though younger children will need supervision on the external stairs. Regretfully, pets are not allowed. As we have stayed at the house frequently, you will find it has a more homely feel and is less like a rental property. Outside: The beautifully planted gardens at Clos Cristina are arranged as separate lawns and areas. Ideal for playing games, hide and seek, or finding a tranquil hidden spot. Children's slide, swings and some outdoor games provided. Choose from two outdoor seating areas as the sun moves around the house - the front gravelled area or the side patio with its picnic table, BBQ and covered citern/well. Sunshades and seating provided. Utility Room: A handy room with washing machine Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Please bring your own towels and linen, and bring duvet covers for the bedding (3 doubles and 4 single duvets provided). The house is thoroughly cleaned for your arrival, but we assume you will leave things tidy on departure. Other: The loft studio provides a self-contained living space over the whole length of the house, and is accessed by external stairs. The bedroom area is separated from the living/ dining/ kitchenette area. Own shower room and WC. Carpeted throughout.
