Villa Near Sainte Foy la Grande, Gironde, Aquitaine - Extensive, Enclosed Gardens

The villa has 2 double and 2 twin bedrooms. There is a large kitchen and dining room, seperate lounge with double sofa bed, 2 bathrooms, one with shower, one with bath and 2 seperate toilets. Cot and highchair are provided. Outside terrace with built-in barbeque, overlooks pool, patio and gardens. New full-size private tennis court. Ideally situated for wine lovers, the house is within easy driving distance of classic vineyards such as St Emilion, Bordeaux and many local favourites such as Bergerac, Percharmant. The local town, Ste Foy la Grande provides all amenities, restaurants, banks, cafes, tourist office and full shopping facilities, and hosts one of the biggest and most well known local markets on Saturday mornings - not to be missed! In or out of season, Ste Foy la Grande is an historic, thriving, working town, nestling on the banks of the Dordogne River. Canoeing, boat rides and other activities are available on the Dordogne and there is also an excellent nearby golf course.

About Kate Sweet

We started looking for a place to buy in France after selling our house in London, eventually finding Les Singes Heureux in 2003, which we bought from a lovely French couple who were moving from the area.Our oldest son was only a year old and both our boys have spent nearly all their holidays at the house - learning to swim in the pool, running in the garden and now learning to play tennis on the court (although this often gets abandoned in favour of footie!). We have spent many holidays with family and friends at the house and love showing them the area, although we don't get to visit as often as we'd like.

We have rented the house out since we bought it, and we hope you find it as relaxing and enjoyable a holiday as we do each time we visit.

Why Kate Sweet chose Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt

We love the access to the beautiful medieval towns of St Emillion, Ste Foy la Grande and Duras, and also the ease of getting to the sea - only 1.5 hour drive to Arcachon and the largest sand dune in Europe.

It's easy to reach the house, we fly from Bristol to Bergerac (only 25 min drive) or Bordeaux (1 hour) and can be at the house quicker than it takes to get to London!

What makes this villa unique

We have a large supermarket close by, fabulous bakeries in Ste Foy and a huge weekly farmers market.

You can choose to visit the surrounding areas or just relax in the villa, as the swimming pool and tennis courts provide plenty of entertainment.

Notes on accommodation: Ideal for families with young children as gardens are fully enclosed and villa extends over one level. Outside: Private pool is 10m x 5m, 1.4m depth across the pool. Sun loungers and parasols are provided. Built-in barbeque on terrace overlooks pool and patio. At the end of the garden is a new full-size tennis court with basketball hoop. Utility Room: Seperate utility room with washing machine, ironing board, iron and clothes horse. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included, property is cleaned at the beginning and end of each stay. Please bring your own beach towels for use around the pool.

A great holiday, a great location and great wine

My family have spent several brilliant holidays at the villa. We found it to be both ideal for a peaceful or busy vacation.

The villa was clean and comfortable and the kids love the pool, tennis court and large gardens.

With the town center of Ste Foy only 1.5km away, we either cycle or walk by taking the back lane into town. There is a fabulous market selling fresh local produce or hand made gifts. We ate at several different restaurants or BBQ at the villa.

After a day out sight seeing or by the pool, the place to be was in the back garden drinking a glass of local wine watching the sun set. A great holiday, a great location and great wine!

Fabulous house, really well equipped and the location was superb. The pool, courts and garden kept us all entertained. We had a brilliant time. The local market was really good and lunch in St Emillion was a highlight!

I would highly recommend this property.

Atlantic coast is 1 1/2 hour drive, largest sand dune in Europe. Unspoilt, windswept, white sandy Atlantic beaches. Period sea side town of Arcachon overlooks oyster beds and has superb fish restaurants, is a popular holiday destination of the French.


Airports - Bergerac: 25 minutes (Ryanair & FlyBe); Bordeaux: 60 minutes (British Airways, Easyjet, BMI baby and Ryanair); Toulouse 2 1/2 hours; Limoges 2 1/2 hours.

Use of car/ car hire essential.

Road - Paris-Bergerac: 7 hours; Channel ports: 7/10 hours.

Rail - Bergerac (TGV Paris/Bordeaux/Bergerac): 17 kms.


Ste Foy la Grande is a 5 min drive, Bergerac is 30 minutes and Bordeaux approx. 1 hour. St Emilion is a 20 min drive west and there are many other chateaux offering wine tasting in the surrounding area. There are many places of interest along the Dordogne river (in both directions) and beautiful towns and villages to explore.

All prices are per week and are inclusive of water, electricity, bed linen and towels.
A 50% deposit is required on booking and the balance paid 6 weeks prior to start of the holiday. A refundable deposit of £300 is requested.
No smoking or animals are permitted in the property at any times.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday 4.00pm arrival to Saturday 10.00am departure. Individual requests and changes to these times or days can be discussed.

100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
