The Piano House in Lagrasse

Overview

Property

Updated: 22-Nov-2016
Old House with a piano in Lagrasse, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, Canal du Midi, Cathar Castles, Sea and Mountains

The national heritage village of Lagrasse in the Corbieres region boasts a 12th century abbey, an ancient bridge, market place and glorious views over surrounding vineyards. Our house is in the middle of the village, within walking distance of several restaurants and markets and accessible to some of the best cycling and walking in the Aude region as well as beaches along the river. It is a beautifully refurbished three hundred year old house with three bedrooms, library/study with high-speed internet, walled garden, fully equipped kitchen-dining room, a beautiful stone-walled living room with tapestries, grand piano and many original features. It takes thirty minute drive to Narbonne, nearby Mediterranean beaches and the historic town of Carcassone, an hour from the Spanish border and ninety minutes from Toulouse, the nearest international airport. Ryanair flies into Carcassone and Perpignan, both 45 minutes away by car. We are located on the Route des Cathares near the canal du midi.

The house has an excellent Yamaha grand piano which the owner is only too happy for guests to play. This includes children under supervision. Robert runs a five day piano festival in Lagrasse in July and would especially welcome professionals looking for a quiet place to practise for their next recital or learn crucial repertory. The house thick stone walls offer total insulation.

Lovely home in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we were warmly greated we throughly enjoyed both our home and lovely village of Lagrasse. The house is very comfortable with a very well stocked kitchen so cooking with all the amazing food from local markets is very easy.

Many vineyards in the local area and artisans in the village.

A beautiful home that has already been recommended to friends.

superb

I booked the piano house last year after peering through the windows when I was staying in Lagrasse. my niece and her family stayed there for a week and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, it was everything they had wished for, beautiful house, peace in wonderful surroundings, just what the doctor had ordered! space inside and out made it a great time for the family to get together and Carlos was a gem! the wonderful artefacts made the place, a home with character. the river was dammes and the swimming nearby was great in the heat, Lagrasse is such a beautiful place, and the fireworks on July 13th were just in time for my niece's birthday, go on treat yourself!! we did!!

Living the French Life

  • 5 of 5

We've always wanted to experience living in a small French village for an extended period of time and we found the perfect house and village in Lagrasse. Robert and Fred's home became our home for three months and we enjoyed every minute. We made all arrangement via email and the local property manager was close by to answer concerns. The home exceeded our expectations and we quickly settled into our village routine. We loved the open plan on the main floor with windows on the street and french doors opening to the terrace. With our extended stay we did plenty of cooking and found most needed items in the kitchen and appreciated the the larger than average refrigerator!

We were here "off season" and really enjoyed visiting the area without the crowds but did find that some restaurants and attractions closed for the colder months. November was beautiful as the vineyard changed color and December and January varied from cold and windy to sunny and only needing a sweater.

We used Lagrasse as a home base as we did many day trips and overnight get-a-ways to Lourdes and points west, Lyon, and Figures for the Dali Museum. In addition to that we took the TGV from Narbonne to Barcellona! We enjoyed exploring the surrounding villages, the canal du Midi, learning about the Cathares, and visiting historic abbyes and chateaus. Oh, how could I leave out wine tasting and learning about the wine culture and history! The village has a small Saturday market just down the street and you will find others scattered throughout the area.

The three bedrooms would be ideal for couples sharing the space and the library/den an great get-a-way for a little alone time. I loved reading on the top floor as the sun streamed in through the skylight.

The WIFI was a little temperamental but was a bonus when we wanted to FaceTime family.

We were made to feel welcomed in this multi-national village that includes families from the UK, Singapore, US and Spain along with the French.

Come and enjoy this home and village, you will create many wonderful memories.

Idyllic, quaint and gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

Loved Lagrasse and the surrounding area, never saw so many grapes, vineyards and such beautiful scenery, just gorgeous and highly recommended.

The property was just perfectly French inside, the archway, the walled garden and that lovely lived in feeling that felt like a home from home.

Eating out in Lagrasse town was very good value too. If you go in September though, be mindful that restaurants serve food until 9 pm so go early. Found the people very helpful and friendly too. Would recommend this holiday and gite to anyone who reads this.

Also do try to speak French people do appreciated this.

I want to go back . . . . . .
