Townhouse in Ostuni, Brindisi, Puglia - Recently Renovated, Roof Terrace, Air Conditioning
A lovely little house that has been recently renovated with a double height “star-vaulted” ceiling, double bedroom area on a mezzanine level, separate smaller bedroom with single bed and a quality double sofabed in the living area below the mezzanine. In an excellent position just a few minutes walk down to the main square, the many restaurants, bars and cafes of Ostuni old town are all just a short stroll away. The lovely Blue-Flag beaches along this coastline are just a few minutes drive away. There is plenty of free parking close by. Our house manager is a very helpful English lady who lives nearby and is always on hand with advice and tips on where to go and what to do!
About the Owner
My wife Mel and I are both secondary school teachers. I teach at Holloway School in North London and Mel teaches at Notting Hill & Ealing School in West London. Mel's father is Italian and owns La Rosetta restaurant in Brentford and we all live nearby in Ealing. We met travelling in Bali in 1992, got married in the Italian church in Clerkenwell in 2000 and now have 3 young sons. We all love travelling and try to make the most of the school holidays. One place we have never got bored of is Southern Italy and we try to spend as much of the holidays there as possible!
Guestbook comments from the owner
“We have travelled all around Italy over the last 18 years, but Ostuni really stands out as being something special” RJ, Islington.
“A charming little house within stumbling distance of the many excellent bars and restaurants that Ostuni has to offer” DF, Woking.
“Italy has many lovely and interesting as towns, with some nearly as nice as Ostuni. But none of these overlook Blue Flag beaches!” AS, Brighton.
From the Owner
“After spending years travelling around Italy at various times of the year, about 9 years ago we decided to take the plunge and buy a holiday home in our favourite part, Puglia. The amazing food, beautiful weather and relaxed lifestyle drew us to the region. The stunning architecture, buzzing atmosphere and proximity to some of Italy's most stunning beaches brought us to the gorgeous town of Ostuni.”
Activity and Interests
The drive down to the sea takes around 10 minutes from the Old Town. There are several lovely beaches near Ostuni including the sandy Pilone 2 and the georgous Torre Guaceto, a WWF protected nature reserve.
Ryanair fly from London Stansted to Brindisi (approx 20 mins drive to Ostuni) or Bari (approx 50 mins drive). Alitalia fly from London Heathrow to both Brindisi and Bari. Easyjet fly from London Gatwick to Bari, as do British Airways. Car hire is available through Hertz, Europcar, National, Maggiore, Sixt and Targarent at both Brindisi and Bari airports.
It's possible to catch a train to Ostuni from either airport and get a taxi to the property from the station, or just simply get a taxi direct
All times quoted are by car and are approximate:
Alberobello (Trulli village) 40 mins.
Fasano (Golf and Safari Zoo) 20 mins.
Lecce (stunning Baroque city) 60 mins.
Gallipoli (beautiful old port town) 100 mins.
Apart from the beautiful nearby beaches, one of the best things about staying in the centre of Ostuni town itself are the many gorgeous restaurants (which are surprisingly cheap!), stylish bars and cafes which are all within walking distance.
Rough Guide (Italy); "one of the most stunning small towns of southern Italy", "a gleaming white splash of sun-bleached streets and cobbled alleyways"
Lonely Planet (Italy); "stunning town of stark, whitewashed buildings", "the seemingly disordered tangle of narrow cobblestone streets, many little more than arched stairways between the houses, recalls a North African Arab medina"
Lonely Plant (Puglia & Basilicata); “Ostuni has a commanding position, its maze of tightly packed streets twisting around a dramatic 15th century cathedral encircled by medieval ramparts. It is the most popular Murgia town, mainly due to its proximity to the coast. In recent years it has become devilishly chic, and has the best after dark scene in the region”
If you like the idea of getting purposefully lost wandering around the cobbled sundrenched streets of a medieval walled town, stumbling across amazing restaurants (with ridiculously low prices!) and trendy bars, whilst catching glimpses of turquoise sea through the gaps between the beautiful old whitewashed townhouses, then Ostuni is for you!

From the Owner
“We bought Casa Alfonso in 2006, a year after we had bought our first house in the town, Casa Zumbini. We spent a year searching for somewhere that had real character, useable space, free parking close by, and yet was only a short stroll from the piazza. Casa Alfonso ticked every box. The fact it a private sunny roof terrace just topped it off!!”
