Villa in Archez, Nr. Competa, Andalucia - Peaceful Location But Only 5 Mins Walk To Restaurants, Bars And Shops. Free Broadband & UK TV

Less than 5 mins walk, on proper pavements with streetlighting, to restaurants (including Moorish and Traditional Spanish), bars, supermarkets and pharmacy, but completely private sitting in 2000 square metres of land. Walking distance to 2 other villages with restaurants, shops, bars and banks. The beautiful beaches of Nerja, Torre del Mar and Algarrobo are within 20-25 mins drive. The house is accessed by tarmac road, so no need to rent a 4x4 vehicle. The house is well equipped and furnished and is maintained by a local British couple. The property is light and airy in the summer but cosy in the winter with a wood burning stove and electric heaters. Archez is a 1 hour drive from Malaga airport and 1.5 hours to Granada and 2.5 hours to Seville. The villages of Canillas de Albaida and Corumbella are within walking distance. The resorts of Nerja and Torre del Mar are half an hour away. Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is 2 hours drive and there are two 18 hole golf courses within easy drive.

Why Margaret and Brian McFadyen chose Árchez

After viewing 14 properties in 3 days, we fell in love with this one as soon as we came through the gates. The gardens and terraces are beautiful and the views are absolutely stunning. Because we are driving a lot at work we wanted to be within walking distance of at least 1 restaurant and 1 supermarket. We are lucky enough to be able to walk to 5 restaurants and 2 supermarkets in our own village and a similar number in the next village. I often travel to our villa alone and wanted to have somewhere that was private but not isolated. The real deciding factor though, was the warmth of the local people. Our village is a small Spanish community where the most valuable assets are family and friends.

What makes this villa unique

The fact that the village is very self contained means that we don't always need to rent a car as we can buy everything that we need locally. If we want to take a trip to Granada, Seville etc we will rent a car, but if not, Maria, the local taxi driver, will collect us at the airport and take us back there at the end of our holiday. The majority of our returning guests do not rent a car now.

We were looking forward to a relaxing break and that is exactly what we have found here. The gardens are stunning, the villa very comfortable and cosy. We have really enjoyed pottering about and visiting nearby villages. Had a beautiful paella in a nearby restaurant and made lemonade using the recipe from the previous guests and it was lovely.

Notes on accommodation: The house is comfortably furnished and maintained by a local British couple . This house is a fantastic base for all types of holidaymakers. There is horse riding, tennis and mountain biking available locally as well as some of the best restaurants in Andalucia. Mountain bikes can be hired locally. The area is a walker's paradise and there is a walking guide to the area in the house for reference. Guided walks of the area with an experienced local guide are available from November to April. Pool open from April to end of October. For serious shoppers there are 2 major shopping complexes within an easy drive. If you fancy a swim in the winter, there is a brand new indoor, heated pool less than 10 minutes away. Outside: The villa is in a fabulous location within a couple of minutes walk of Archez village, but with spectacular village and mountain views. Less than 10 minutes drive on tarmac road takes you straight into the centre of Competa. Everything you could need for country living but with easy access to village life on foot or by car. Wonderful outside space with glorious established gardens. As you come through the double gates we think you will love the sight of the private pool surrounded by 2000 square metres gardens, avocado trees and terraces covered in jasmine and bougainvillea. The terraces go on and on round the house and around corners to give you private seating areas at different levels both in sun and shade. There are mature trees and plants including lemon, orange, almond and figs and there's no problem reaching out to pick an avocado for lunch! The pool and garden are well equipped with sun loungers, dining and coffee tables and chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels for the bathroom are provided. Please bring your own for the beach and pool. Beds are made up prior to arrival and a set of fresh linen supplied for 2 week rentals. The house is cleaned before and after occupation. Other: There is travel cot and highchair available in the villa for the use of clients. There is ample space in either of the bedrooms to locate the cot. Please supply your own baby pillow for the cot if you wish to use it.

La Casa de Flores

We had a lovely, relaxing couple of weeks at La Casa de Flores. The villa had everything we needed for a comfortable stay with our two young teenage boys.

The views over Archez and across the mountains are stunning. Each morning we had breakfast on the terrace in the sunshine whilst we decided whether to stay by the pool for the day or get out and about - there are many other beautiful villages to visit as well as beach resorts and places of interest such as the dramatic caves at Nerja. If you have children, the waterpark Aquavelis is also a great day out (expensive entrance fee, but worth it). There are several good places to eat in the village and lots of others in the neighbouring area.

It is a short (but steep) walk down to the village, but the Cafe/Bar Amalia is just a couple of minutes walk down the hill and has the most friendly owners - we regularly walked down for a nightcap!

You will need a car to get around, but the main roads are in good condition - it takes about 20 minutes to get from the house to the coast along picturesque winding roads.

The area is very peaceful during the day (can be a little noisy early in the morning as the sound travels up from the village when the locals are starting their day), and we certainly felt refreshed after our stay in this lovely rural retreat.

One of the things that we really like about the location of our house is that we can choose to do as much or as little we want with our days. You have made good use of the close proximity to the coast to visit the water parks during the hot weather and visitors in the autumn often choose to take a day trip to Granada or Seville which are both stunning cities but far too hot in the peak summer months. We also like to have a nightcap in Cafe/Bar Amalia, the owners Imma and Juan are lovely, all of our visitors say nice things about them. After one of Juan's drinks you are certainly guaranteed a great nights sleep!! they also serve lovely churros y chocolate for breakfast at the weekends. It goes without saying that you are more than welcome to return to our house at any time in the future.

Beautiful house, amazing location

Casa de Flores is a perfect villa, beautifully located with stunning views over Archez and the surrounding countryside. Well-equipped kitchen, comfy sofas, good wifi and even a bit of English TV, should the weather not be ideal! Margaret, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful – we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

Extremely clean with everything you need for a great stay.

The villa is amongst the best we have stayed in. Some villas have items missing that you may expect to have but in this villa everything we needed was there. The only down side is the steep hill from the village to the villa but it only takes 5 minutes to climb and you do get used to it. The height gained gives you a lovely view of the village and surrounding mountains.

Wonderful villa in a wonderful location

Here in the little town of Archez you can get a taste of the real Spain. We spent two weeks at La Casa de Flores at the end of March and it was wonderful. Everything you could need in terms of creature comforts ( loved the duvets) and only 5 minutes from town. Easy to do trips to Córdoba and Granada. Margaret was also available to answer our silly questions and give us great advice on places to go, restaurants, etc. Beautiful sun......the only day it rained was the day we arrived! We hope to return next year.

Idyllic location

Beautiful property with everything you would need for a perfect holiday. The outside space was beautiful with amazing views over the villages and countryside. Normally the climate is a bit less intense, heat-wise, in September but we stayed during a heatwave with temperatures in the 40s! Air-conditioning would have been a nice addition but the lack of it did not spoil our time at Casa de Flores (we slept outside on the terrace!). Would recommend this to people who like the outdoors as the walking around Archez is fabulous, just time it for when the weather is not too hot!

I am stunned that the temperature was as high as 40 degrees as it has usually dropped down to a comfortable 27 by then! I am pleased that you loved the views from our terrace, we think that they are stunning. Yes, the walking around Archez is amazing but not in 40 degree heat, I would be submerged in the pool at those temperatures! November to the end of May are the most popular walking months. Hope to see you again in the future

The nearest beach is 15 kilometres away at Algorrobo and the beaches at Nerja, Torrox and Torre del Mar are within 30 minutes drive. All of the beaches have Blue Flag status.


Malaga airport is 55 kilometres away (1 hour driving) and Tarifa ferry port is 70km. Although the villa is within a very short walking distance of restaurants, bars supermarkets etc a car is recommended to explore the surrounding area. We know that some visitors prefer not to rent a car and whilst we cannot provide airport transfers ourselves, we can liaise with Maria,the local taxi driver to arrange airport transfers from and to Malaga airport for 70 euros each way. Maria is an excellent driver

Archez, Canillas de Albaida and Competa are a cluster of white villages featured in the Andalucian wine trail. The cluster provides a wide range of amenities including shops, supermarkets, banks, beauty parlours, fantastic selection of restaurants and bars, pharmacies and even internet cafes and a gym!. Each village has its own market day. There is horseriding, tennis and mountainbiking available locally, as well as winetasting in local bodegas. For museums witha difference try the wine museum or even the raisin museum!. Join in the street parties at the local fiesta days and weeks. the fiestas vary from village to village so you have always got a good chance of a party.

In the Autumn and Winter Archez is a walkers paradise with many superb walks starting from outside our front gates. We have walking guides of the area in our house but if you would like the company of an experienced local walker, we can supply contact details of a British walker who lives in Archez from November to April. Walks can be tailored to experience and fitness level.

A 25% non refundable deposit is required upon booking and the balance, which is non refundable. The balance is payable 6 weeks prior to arrival together with a security and good housekeeping deposit of £150.This security deposit will be refunded approx 1 week after the end of your holiday following return of the keys and subject to the property being left clean and undamaged. Visitors are advised to take appropriate insurance cover for cancellation as all monies once paid are non refundable unless we are able to re let the dates . We will provide you with written proof of your booking and amount paid to assist you if you need to make a cancellation claim against your travel insurance policy. We accept payment by personal cheque, bank transfer or PayPal via the secure paypal site. If paying by PayPal please add 4% to cost to account for paypal charges.

Changeover Day:
Access to the property is at 3pm and departure is 10.00am. Bookings in the peak season-July to end of Sept are from Sat to Sat and in multiples of 7 days but there is the potential for flexibility outwith these months dependant on other bookings.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds including utility costs, however the house and grounds are for the sole occupancy of the people advised to us on the original booking. If you wish to make any changes to your booking in terms of the number of people in your party or the ages of children travelling, please consult with us in advance. Breaks of 4 nights or more are available from Nov to March at a cost of £340 for 4 nights, £365 for 5 and £390 for 6. From Nov to March the house can be rented per month for £1260.00,no discounts are available on this price. In July and August a £50 discount is available for 2 people sharing for 2 weeks or more. To rent for 4 weeks or more from April to Oct, please contact owner for the price.
