About the property

Ideal for family gatherings, reunions or smaller groups enjoying the luxury of space.

The house is in the little hamlet of La Borie, just over the hill from the listed village of Lusignac with its fortified farmhouse, ancient church and pretty restaurant/bar. The house is set in 3 acres of grounds which include a field, orchard and small wood. The scale of the house is impressive and it has all the features you would expect in a 250 year old farmhouse plus all the modern conveniences necessary for a comfortable stay. It's well equipped and the decor is an interesting mix of old and new, paintings by friends and family and objects collected over the years. La Borie is a great location for family gatherings or reunions, as there is plenty to occupy all ages both around the house and in the wider area - wonderful markets and restaurants, historic villages, and canoeing on the river. The Bergerac and Bordeaux vineyards, Dordogne valley including Les Eyzies, and Beynac and the sea are all within striking distance.

But for those who just need to relax, be quiet or enjoy time with the family, the property is spacious enough for even a large group not to feel over-crowded. The pool is big enough for swimming lengths, and there is a shallow section ideal for little ones. The property is arranged over 3 floors. Large farmhouse kitchen and sitting room on the ground floor. The 2 principal bedrooms with ensuites on the first floor, and a further 3 bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor where there is limited headroom. The pool is large and has a diving board and shallo section. There is a separate table-tennis hanger on the courtyard.

About Mrs Helen Harrison

I'm Australian and enjoy gardening.

Mrs Helen Harrison purchased this farmhouse in 1980

Why Mrs Helen Harrison chose Perigord Vert

We bought the house because it was such a contrast to our tiny terraced house in central London.......so spacious. Its elegant lines appealed to my architect husband, while its primitive state provided him with a new challenge.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our young children fell in love with La Borie instantly.......so much space to run around and explore. Twenty years later, they still love it and enjoy bringing their friends. I love the big skies, the absence of traffic noise, the bird song and the cicadas.

perfect, two-family holiday in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

We had all looked forward to staying at La Borie just from its location and seeing the lovely pics and the reality was still better and just perfect for two families of five. There's a wonderful secret garden feel and we were surrounded with the best of early summer in the garden Helen quietly keeps looking stunningly natural. The house has a lovely laid-back, stylish vibe with a huge kitchen, spacious bedrooms and a large comfy sitting room we never needed to use. The shady terrace outside the kitchen with roses and jasmine and every possible seating and lazing opportunity was the centre of 'activities' and wonderful for every meal. Early morning swims with the scent of jasmine and lavender were a particular treat and there were endless pingpong, badminton (and tanning) challenges.

La Borie is perfectly positioned for enjoying local life from markets to canoeing and Perigueux is just an hour away. We loved the Lusignac bar. You won't be surprised to read that we are returning this year!

Another fantastic holiday at La Borie

  • 5 of 5

This was not our first visit to La Borie and yet again we have enjoyed a wonderful family holiday. The house has such character whilst being both spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is well resourced and the sitting areas both inside and outside comfortably sit 10 people. The garden is beautiful and filled with an array of varied and colourful plants and shrubs whilst the pool is large and cleaned regularly by the owner. Yet again we enjoyed some lovely days out to St Emillion, Brantome and Cognac to name a few - and of course some pleasant evening drinks in Vertaillac.

Thank you Helen - we have treasured memories of a fantastic holiday!

The house is fabulous, well maintained lots of character and charm, but well equipped too for modern living. Beautiful pool and gardens and an exceptional host .

We had plenty of sunshine so we were able to really enjoy the beautiful countryside and nearby quaint villages. A really good holiday, thank you Helen.

A perfect house for the whole family

  • 5 of 5

La Borie is much more than a holiday house - a real home beautifully decorated, very comfortable and clean and with a spacious, well equipped kitchen which was a pleasure to cook in. We were unlucky with the weather but it really did not matter, the evenings in front of the blazing fire in the kitchen were as memorable as those that we did spend outside in the beautiful garden where there were two spacious seating areas. Helen made us feel really welcome and went out of her way to provide everything we needed from the clear maps she sent to help us find the house to finding out about kayaking for us and even bringing us plenty of extra games and dvd's when the rain came down on our second day. In spite of the weather we really enjoyed the pool in its beautiful setting and the boys enjoyed playing football in the meadow. The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed exploring and walking through to the lane and up to the small bar in the village. We hired bikes which were delivered and picked up and it was a great way to explore the surrounding countryside and villages. We all hope to go back next summer, there is so much in the area still to see though if the sun shone I don't think we would want to leave the garden and swimming pool! Thank you Helen for a really memorable holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments Nel. Unfortunately good weather cannot be guaranteed in May, but, as you mentioned, an evening around the open fire is a treat these days, and the indoor areas spacious and comfortable enough for even a large group not to feel confined.

glorious holiday at la borie

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't have asked for more from la Borie or its owner Helen. La Borie was tranquil, comfortable, and had everything you would need for a family holiday. The kitchen was so well equipped, it was amazing, the bedrooms were spacious, and beds comfy. Everywhere was decorated beautifully & furnished thoughtfully. There was so much space throughout the house and gardens that even as a large family you would be able to find a quiet spot for some peace. The pool had a great shallow area for the toddlers, the garden was great for exploring. We will be returning next year without a doubt! Thank you Helen!

Notes on accommodation: The house feels homely and I like to welcome guests with flowers, home cooking or fresh produce from my vegetable garden whenever possible. The garden is at it's loveliest in early summer. Outside: There is a courtyard with paved dining area, raised pond, table-tennis barn, barbecue, lawn and garden. Just beyond, there is a great L-shaped pool. It's big (13m x 6.5m), has a diving board at one end and a shallow section in the short arm of the L which is ideal for little ones learning to swim. There is a large terrace with ample sun-lounges and solar shower. The area is tastefully enclosed. Boule and badminton equipment are provided and there is a field for games. There are lots of wild orchids in the field during June. Utility Room: Washing machine and tumble dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and bath towels are provided. The property is thoroughly cleaned between lets, and extra cleaning or changes of bed-linen can be arranged on request. Other: There is a small room across the courtyard which is used as a store-room, and an open hanger with table-tennis and bar-b-que.
