A stylish and relaxing place to escape in Scotland’s capital, the 'City Bothy' is situated in Edinburgh’s "New Town", one of the city's most famous historic districts. This studio apartment is a 5-minute walk from Princes St and many of the city’s best shops, restaurants, galleries and other tourist attractions. 'Bothy' in Scots means a small mountain refuge, but you won’t have to rough it. We’ve tried to create the kind of place we would like to stay ourselves: white cotton bedding, a good kingsize-bed, attractive contemporary decoration and modern conveniences such as free wi-fi, a dishwasher and flatscreen TV. This ground floor apartment consists of an open-plan living and dining space with a bedroom area off it. There is also a separate full-sized bathroom, with power shower over the bath. Facilities include a well-equipped kitchen (including electric oven, microwave, gas hob, dishwasher), free wi-fi internet access and a 32-inch flatscreen television with Freeview and DVD player.

Notes on accommodation: We're happy to welcome visitors with babies or a small child, though we don't offer a cot. The apartment looks out onto a quiet, shared courtyard which has some nice planting and benches to sit out on. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Price includes all towels, bedlinen, utilities (electricity, heating, hot water) and a welcome pack (including tea, sugar, coffee and fresh milk). The property is serviced, with towel and linen change, once a week.

A Sweet Get-Away

I loved staying in this flat!

It's cozy, clean, and convenient. I'm 20 and I traveled by myself for a two-week holiday in Edinburgh at the end of January and I never had a problem.


-Location: The Bothy is located in a secluded apartment courtyard in New Town. It is a convenient 20 minute walk from all the big sites in Edinburgh and even less if you want to take the bus (which is a quick and inexpensive way to get around town.)

The flat is right around the corner from a Sainsbury's (local grocery store) so whenever I needed groceries I would take a 2 minute walk and get them. There's also tons of cafe's and shopping just a couple streets down. It's a 15 minute walk to the Bus Station and 20 minutes to the Edinburgh Waverly Train Station.

-Cleanliness: The apartment was spotlessly clean when I got there. All the appliances worked great and the heater worked well and could easily be turned on and off. The shower had great water pressure (which is super important to me!) and the bed had crisp, clean linens on it and it was so comfortable! It felt like a hotel where I could cook! The kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, and any other utensils I needed.

- Wifi: FREE WIFI!! It's amazing how much you appreciate it when you don't have phone service.

- Communication: The owner responded to quickly to all of my emails since I didn't have phone service. He was so accommodating. At one point my internet connection slowed and I contacted him. Right away he got in contact with the company and resolved the problem. It was great! He's a great guy.


- I really didn't have any issues the whole time I was there. The only thing I would suggest to visitors would be, if you're coming in the wintertime, come dressed for the weather. Buy a STURDY umbrella. I LOVED being in Edinburgh in the Wintertime. Everyone said in the summer there's a lot of people and it's more expensive to travel in the summer. Although it was rainy some days and a little cold I just made sure I was prepared for it... The city is kind of romantic in the rain anyway. :)

Thoughts: I would highly recommend going to Edinburgh. It's a beautiful city and I loved exploring. I'm sure in the summer it's amazing but I loved not being crowded and the lower flight prices! :) The flat was so worth having! I would highly recommend this property.

Felt Like Home

My boyfriend and I spent Christmas at this apartment and loved every second of it. Photos and description are accurate. Appliances were sufficient however there was not a washing machine. Very spacious and comforting. Quiet apartment complex and easy to get to though the upstairs neighbors were noisy late at night. Fast internet connection.

Property Manger and the local affiliate were very responsive and kind.

Property was spotless and had more than enough dishes, soaps, cleaning supplies etc. Sheets were fresh and bed was comfortable. The water was hot and the heater worked very well.

This little space was very cozy and quaint. Perfect for a couple and if we ever return we will be booking here again. I would 100% recommend this place to others.

Fabulous accommodation and location.

We just returned from 4 days in this flat in Edinburgh. A marvellous time was had due to the weather, beautiful city and great accommodation. The location allowed us to see the New Town as well as Stockbridge, Inverleith and other lovely areas on our walk to Leith. It is extremely convenient to all the traditionally visited spots. We walked everywhere! We liked the ability to make breakfasts and pack a lunch. We also had dinner here one evening. There is no shortage of convenient food and specialty shops nearby as well as pubs and restaurants. The Stand Comedy Club is a 5 minute walk, Usher Hall/Traverse theatre is a 10 minute walk. The size, ambience,layout, kitchen and amenities , cleanliness, comfortable bed, and convenience make it highly worthy of recommendation. We would absolutely return.

Superb central cosy apartment

A wonderful 21st century bothy with eclectic vintage charm and all the modern amenities you could need. I booked this bothy for my husbands 30th birthday weekend away as he is a great fan of alternative 'hotels' and we couldn't have been more delighted. Just minutes from the bustle of Princes St in a delightful suburban setting; our favourite Stockbridges cafes were literally on the door step too. The City Bothy is spacious, sunny, contemporary studio apartment with beautiful retro furnishings. An ideal residence for exploring Edinburgh.

Booking Notes:
Bookings can be made by email or phone. Payment is made by cheque to the owner, bank transfer or Paypal if preferred (eg for overseas visitors). A deposit of 1/3 of the total rent must be paid on booking. This is non-refundable should the booking be cancelled. The remainder is due at least a month before arrival. Parking can be provided by arrangement at no extra cost.

Changeover Day:
Arrival is usually after 3pm and departure by 11am.

Notes on prices:
We are happy to accept stays of various lengths, as long as they are of more than 3 days (ie you don't need to book for 7-days or 3-days). In exceptional cases we may accept 2-day stays.

We request 50% on booking with the balance payable one month before arrival. Holidaymakers can pay by cheque or bank transfer with details provided on booking. We also accept PayPal.
