Scopello, Private Access To Beach Facing Zingaro

Updated: 01-Sep-2016
House in Scopello, Sicily - Home in a Residence with Private Access to Sea

The house is in a lovely location in the small, quiet residential area of Cala Azzurra, on a private road leading to the bay of Cala Mazzo di Sciacca, between the stunning Zingaro Nature Reserve and the historic Tonnara di Scopello. The pretty, pebble beach, just a few minutes’ walk from the house, has a small café, car park and children’s play area and small boats are available for hire. Use of the beach is free of charge. There are restaurants and cafes in the charming village of Scopello – a 300 metre uphill walk or 5 minute drive. It is a 10 minute drive to a well-stocked supermarket with delicatessen and fresh fruit and vegetables. Segesta, Selinunte, Motia, Erice, Mazzara del Vallo, San Vito lo Capo, Gibellina are all within easy reach.

About the Owner

I speak English well enough to understand you also on the phone. Please consider that the Village of Cala Azzurra is a residential area on the beach. The access is limited to residents and I do not live there. So when you get close to Scopello I should know in advance of at least 15min to be at the gate and welcome you. For this same reason it would be advisable that I know your mobile in advance of your arrival.

We stayed in Cala Azurra with 2 children and a pregnant mom. The owner was very friendly and always available. The house is perfect for a family, the beach beautiful and never crowded, just a few steps away from the house.

The steep stairs were of no concerne, even for pregnant mom and the 3 year-old boy. The very large terrace was everyones favourite place, just big enough to play, eat, take a shower or relax.

We plan on staying there again this summer!

beautiful staying

  • 4 of 5

we had an amazing holidays, the house is confortable and with the nice garden we spent lots of time outside in the evening.unfortunately we had to battle a bit with mosquitos but the rest was really good. The beach is just 5 minutes away and the sea just lovely in the all area.

we enjoyed playing tennis and mr Stefano was very kind to find the details of a tennis court 15 minutes driving from home and behind the tennis court the most amazing "pasticceria" were we had breakfast almost every day. Scopello is just a picture and with the car you can reach many of the famous historical location like temple valley and also wine degistations in the inlands...we stayed only 8 days and we are looking forward to go back! just unfortunate that there is no internet in the house but in the village you can pay for the week to access imternet so all good but not free.enjoy your stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks for comments, very much similar to those I directly received from other guests, see below an example. I am sorry for misunderstanding on internet connection. It is freely available with my credentials everywhere in Scopello and Castellammare, in the FAQS I solicite the guests to ask on arrival ----------- We stayed at this lovely villa at the end of July 2014 and beginning of August. It is very private and in a leafy and lush small estate of nicely settled in villas with gorgeous views of the bay. It is a short walk from a great unspoilt beach with crystal clear water and a couple of small cafes for that little snack or drink in the heat of the day. It was busy but in a lovely relaxed Italian way. It is perfectly positioned to explore all this end of the island and we also enjoyed evenings in Scopello which you could walk to - easier on the downhill way back though .... we generally drove! The villa itself was clean and fairly simple and has a lovely garden and everything you could need. There is a narrow spiral staircase which we and our children were fine with, though possibly a little tricky for older or infirm people trying to get their luggage up. The parking was fine. One morning a note was left saying that a lorry needed to get by later in the day (you park outside the villa on a small road) so could we move our car. We left the keys as we were going to the beach and someone moved it for us and they were really friendly, again no problem. Security was not an issue, we felt very safe. I was really pleased that we picked this villa. It was such a relief as you never know what you are really going to get from the pictures but this was much nicer than we had even expected. I had not been to Sicily before and it was everything we could have wished for and at a very good price. J Anderson and family

We drove up the coast almost to the gates of the Zingano nature reserve and met the owners at the entrance of the gated village. They took us to the house and showed us their home, with wine ready on the table. Upstairs the double room with balcony was a lovely place to sit, the bunk room next door was small, with a view over the sea. The shower room was complete with washing machine if you need it. The ground floor was the kitchen dining space with doors opening onto the secluded garden and the view of the sea. The pebble beach at the end of the private road was the best we found. The polished pebbles were just beautiful and from all the rock types in the area. The bay was rocky but excellent for swimming and snorkelling - we were told the swim times to the reserve and the village though we never got that far! Go in May and the flowers were superb, and better still up the hills than on the reserve track, with many birds and fascinating geology. The village cafes were excellent, and the pottery - and there was a goldfish in the water trough!

Yes the spiral stair is steep but I managed with a recently broken ankle! The parking is on the road adjacent to the house which is a oneway system so not a problem. Enjoy a simple holiday.

A wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

We arrived wanting a peaceful break before exploring the Aeolian islands and weren't disappointed. The apartment was great, very well equipped and clean. The beach was beautiful and although open to the paying public it was only busy at the weekend when we enjoyed some great people watching! The beach is very rocky and I would advise shoes for swimming. Amazing supermarket with great deli just up the road and many lovely meals out locally. A very relaxing area.

Great View with Apartment Problems

  • 3 of 5

We rented the apartment last summer. We were looking forward to a week away from the hustle and bustle of the area. The apartment itself if fine, except for the spiral staircase to the bedrooms is steep and a squeeze.

Parking is a problem as you have to park within centimetres of the walled side of the street. If not you are bothered by drivers who cannot get through.

You are asked to trust the locals as you are requested not too lock your front door as the environment is totally safe. We had to put our dining room table against the front door every night to feel safe. We took all our valuables with us.

The owner decide to take a trip to the Alps while were were there. We followed the explicit directions only to find out that we were stuck outside the gates for nearly an hour as the cleaning lady, who was to let us in, was on the beach with her children and did not answer her phone. Some of he garden furniture was broken and we were asked to pay for a garden chair that broke the first time we sat on it. All our problems had to be solved by long distance calls using our cell phones.

The setting is wonderful. The beach is not private, but there is a private lane to the sea.

Owner's Response: I fully agree the house is not for fat people as the stair to the second floor is narrow, however one has the front view to the sea both from the garden as well as from the bedrooms It is neither for maniacs for their safety or valuables. The village of Cala Azzurra is not in the wild, it is a residential area enclosed by a courtain and nothing has ever happened in the 30 or more years I have owned. The furniture was broken by the guests as it was bought just at the beginning of the season and other guests never complained. Probably these guests are a bit over weight. I always suggest to avoid renting huge cars as all the roads within the village are just right. Here I further suggest to renters from overseas to avoid renting cars without automatic gears. My summer trip was annoyed for the first time and only this time while I was spending a beautiful vacation on the Apls.
