This is as good as it gets, Petit Portail is by far the best place we have stayed in France. Linda & Paul have made this home from home. Canada 01/10/10

A wonderful time in a most beautiful place. We have had the best experience of the 4 weeks spent in France at Linda & Pauls gite. The village of Sablet & surrounds have truely opened our eyes to the beauty of this region. Thank you for being such wonderful & helpful hosts. Australia 29/04/10

Wonderful accommodation in central location

A beautiful house in Sablet, perfect for touring the surrounding area. We found it to be very clean, spacious with great views across to neighboring Seguret. The hosts were very welcoming and even stocked the fridge with milk, offered us provisions for dinner (we arrived on a sunday afternoon), and gave a bottle of local wine. Parking is easy with multiple free public spaces in the street below. Such a great part of France, we hope to get back and would definitely stay here again.

Many thanks Linda and Paul.

Petit Portail is very lovely and comfortable. In addition to being very clean and well-maintained, it has beautiful views from all 3 windows. The owners were very generous with their time and most thoughtful - they even provided us with some provisions to get us started because we arrived on a Sunday afternoon when most shops were closed. We really enjoyed Sablet, a peaceful, pretty and clean village symmetrically perched in the Vaucluse. The apartment was always a joy to return to after hours of touring.

The location is good for all tourist attractions within this area (Cotes du Rhone wine trail, Mount Ventoux, walking in the Dentelles, Seguret, Vaison La Romaine & Carpentras etc.) and it is also a good location in the village of Sablet with free parking directly outside, and the bread shop, butcher, pizzeria, restaurant, shops and bar in very easy walking distance (under 2 mins).

In rural France most places shut for two hours at lunchctime (usually when you hope to visit after a late breakfast!), and just as you fancy going out at 9p.m.+ the locals are locking everything up - a late-night drink at a bar seems to be unheard of. Some people find this aspect of life quaint but it drives us nuts - however it in no way affects the wonderful comfort of this property. There is an excellent local wine/tourist store at the bottom end of the village so just stock up and drink at home! The local wines - Sablet, Seguret, Gigondas etc. are of remarkable quality and much better value than the over-hyped Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The property is well-equipped and clean and has a homely ambience. We felt comfortable thgroughout.

The double-sofa bed in the lounge area was fine for our 15 and 13-year-old sons, but although it is full-size I would not trust it to hold 2 heavy adults in comfort without a thicker mattress...having said that, the owners are so helpful that I'm sure they'd soon sort that out if required. There is also a separate pleasant double bedroom.

Three (opening) windows allow plenty of light and airiness into those two areas of lounge/diner and bedroom.

The shower, wash basin and lavatory are in a large immaculately clean room opposite the main bedroom - this room also contains a washing machine and a large set of storage drawers. The shower is excellent.

If you are self-catering the cooking/preparation area is good and well-equipped, and there is a 4-seater dining table and chairs.

Security is good, with a double-locking system.

The nearby streets and alleyways provide an interesting walk.

I totally recommend this relaxed and pleasant place.
