Our cottage LES PEUPLIERS is situated in a quiet rural location and within easy reach of essential services. The cottage has a large comfortable living room, spacious well appointed kitchen, and large dining area with dining table to seat 8. Above the kitchen and dining room area are two good sized bedrooms and a further mezzanine bedroom above the living room. Altogether there are 3 double beds, 4 single beds, an IKEA toddler bed and a cot. There is also a highchair, baby buggy/pushchair, baby bath and changing mat. In the basement there is a pool table, table tennis, and a dartboard. In the living room we have a selection of toys, children’s books, and board games. We have a library of over 200 hardback and paperback books. UK and French Satellite TV, plus DVD. Cottage inventory includes dishwasher, washing machine and separate large capacity tumble dryer. Large family bathroom with bath, bidet, wash hand basin and separate shower cubicle. Two separate toilets one with wash hand basin. Large patio with BBQ.

About the Owner

For many years we dreamed of having our own property in France. In 1999 we were able to make this a reality with the purchase of Les Peupliers.

We are constantly surprised by how much pleasure we obtain from renting out our property to clients for their holidays. When a client tells us that they have had a wonderful holiday experience it means a lot.

The property is very much our second home and fully equipped rather than a holiday cottage minimally equipped.

Rural cottage, great for family groups

Absolutely lovely cottage. We were a family group of myself and my partner and kids aged 13, 11 and twins aged 9 and my dad..

We really enjoyed the rural location, it is incredibly peaceful and tranquil without hordes of holiday makers but within easy drive of any of the more popular tourist sites such as Carnac and Quiberon. In fact despite plans to do more of day trips we mostly stayed around the cottage as it was so nice! There are bikes in the shed to rent and lots of local lanes and tracks barely used by vehicles so we had several bike rides.

There is a lot of 'living' space which is great when you have a large family who all want to be doing different things - a large kitchen, dining room and very large lounge and that's not including the outdoor space - we ate out in the garden most evenings and had several BBQs. It also has English TV channels which made everyone happy during the Olympics. It was clean and well appointed and the large garden was great for sitting out and playing boules. Only slight downside was lack of internet but this is in hand and Roger is waiting for a cable to be put in.

There are only 3 bedrooms but these are all large and spacious - the kids for example had the entire attic space to themselves with a double bed and 3 single beds as well as toys.!

Roger the owner was lovely, very quick to respond to any emails and super helpful. We'd definitely like to go back again next year.

'Les Peupliers'

'Les Peupliers' is a very spacious and well equipped Holiday Cottage - whether it's a pool table, a well-stocked library or an eclectic collection of operatic CDs, it all awaits you!

Moreover, it's an ideal location to explore the historic medieval hinterland or the stunning Breton coastline.

Although not on hand during the time of our stay, the owner was extremely responsive to any request or query that we had.

I would thoroughly recommend this property.

Large property , nice location

Large, clean, and tidy, lovely garden. Lovely location excellent choice for families with children

Roger is very informative and instructions concise as to the use of the house.

As the weather is unpredictable in Northern France and can be cold, especially early season.

Please be aware that you are not allowed to use the central heating system .Well you can if you pay a £100.00 upfront charge. We were very cold, as the house does not retain heat due to the thick stone walls.

There are small electrical oil filled heaters ,but these are inadequate., spent hours chopping logs for the log fires.

There are padlocks on linen boxes, doors, and the shed area, bolts to be undo everywhere, slightly over the top security to say the least.

The padlocks are not of good quality and fail to open. My deposit was withheld because the lock on the liquid gaz tank was faulty; apparently I had attempted to open it! The padlock on the shed containing the house keys was also faulty. Not good when you arrive at 11:00 pm in the dark we were given a number to use but this was one digit out, so it was by luck we managed to gain access to the house.

Roger had been requested by his cleaner to stop buying cheap locks.

The bikes can be hired, as we did. Albeit at a reduced rate, I spent two hours, oiling and repairing the brakes as most of the bikes are dangerous and have not been maintained.

However that's the good and the bad, enjoyable holiday.

Perfect Family Holiday

We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful cottage, the pictures on the website do not do it justice, it is even nicer than the photos suggest! The house oozes character, is incredibly spacious (we were a family of 6 and it never felt crowded). It is excellently equipped with everything you could possibly need. Our children age 2 and 4 were very impressed with the huge garden, perfect for cricket, and the vast selection of toys available. The grown ups loved the peaceful location and made use of the games and books available as well as the pool room. Roger has been a pleasure to deal with throughout, promptly replying to our queries and providing us with useful information and I would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.

Fantastic in France

What a marvellous house, location and region. Our family thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the two-weeks at Les Peupliers. The house was roomy, extremely well equipped and most comfortable. Having the luxury of a choice of bicycles for such a small extra charge proved money well spent. What began the traditional morning cycle into Guehenno (3Km)to visit the patisserie with our two boys, turned into a little more challenging trip to Plumelec . Having the familiar UK TV programmes on TV was a bonus we hadn't foreseen. All-in-all Les Peupliers lived up to all our expectations as a quintessential French country residence....and more. We'll be back for sure!

Fantastic

Our first stay here and roger made me and my family very very welcome. The cottage itself is amazing set in stunning countryside. Would highly recommend using the bikes and getting out and exploring. Cottage is clean and tidy and has everything you could need including that great fireplace in the lounge which is perfect in the evenings. A great relaxing holiday all round made easy by roger.

We wanted our own place in France having visited many times on holiday. We chose Brittany because it was easier to get to and yet very different. The Celtic heritage is evident everywhere you go in this lovely region and is matched by the friendliness of the people.

Coast/Beach:

There are a number of pleasant beaches within easy reach of the cottage, the nearest being at Lac au Duc, a large inland freshwater lake and only 15 mins by car. Slightly further away are the fine long sandy beaches at Carnac and on either side of the Quiberon Peninsular. For photos of the many excellent beaches visit our website.

Travel:

Travelling by car - ferries from Portsmouth, Newhaven, Plymouth, Poole and Weymouth to Cherbourg, St Malo, Dieppe, Le Havre and Ouistreham/Caen. Travelling by air - daily flights to Dinard, Rennes and Nantes. Discounts available on the Brittany Ferries routes.

Distances:

Josselin, a beautiful small town with a fairytale style chateau overlooking the river is just 10km. In the village of Guehenno 3km, you will find bars, restaurants, boulangerie and a boucherie. The nearest sandy beach is 20 mins away at the south end of Lac au Duc, Ploermel.

Further Details:

In Josselin you will find restaurants, supermarkets, branches of the leading French banks, and many small cafes and bars. There is a large market in the centre of the town on Saturday mornings. There is a further large market in Malestroit, 20km, on Thursday mornings. Visit the Resistance Museum just near to Malestroit. In Vannes, 25km, there is a fine indoor pool with water slides and is very popular with our visitors with young children. The area is ideal for cycling.
