We are Ian & Lisa Elsey and we live here at Chez Augros in Vibrac in Charente Maritime with our two daughters, Katrina and Rebecca who go to school locally. We moved here in 2005, when the farmhouse was in need of near-total renovation and we've done most of the work ourselves, so were able to make things as comfortable and efficient as possible.
We love this unspoilt, rural area that we live in - the roads are quiet and even the towns are fairly relaxed most of the time. The coast can get fairly busy in the summer, but it's easy to visit for a day, then escape back to our rural paradise!
Lisa Elsey purchased this farmhouse in 2005
We chose this area because it's close to so many things to see & do - Bordeaux and Saintes are both World Heritage sites, and we're also within easy reach of the gorgeous sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast but at the same time, we're located at the edge of a sleepy village - we didn't want to be in town, but didn't want to be cut off from civilisation, either! This is the second sunniest region of France, and being sun- and water-lovers it's just perfect for us. The weather is reflected in the large swathes of sunflowers and vines which surround us each summer, and which give us a tranquil landscape we're sure you'll love too.
We particularly love our glorious pool area - we keep the water nicely heated from early May to late September, and find that it's a delightful place to relax & unwind, even in Spring & Autumn. It's also the perfect place to cool off and take it easy after a hot day sightseeing, its views over the surrounding farmland make it a delightful place to chill out.
You'll also appreciate your dedicated outside space - we find ourselves spending most of our evenings outside in the summer and it's important to us to have somewhere pleasant and private to relax.

We were made to feel very welcome and really nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were excellent, the gite was clean and had everything we needed and more. We particularly enjoyed the pool and having a BBQ each evening in our secluded garden. We found the tourist pack very informative and planned a few trips out based on the details provided. I would definitely recommend a stay here. A car is needed as it is quite remote, but that was part of the attraction for us.
Tucked away in a gorgeous and remote area, near Bordeaux is the sleepy town of Vibrac. A stones throw from the main crossroads is a smallish complex of farmhouses, and this is where our story begins.... Pretty soon after booking through OD, we were contacted by Lisa to inform us of a change to our accommodation for the better. We were furnished with telephone numbers, directions (and a map), as well as welcoming words for our impending arrival.
We drove down to the gites, and had we not been informed by Lisa prior to setting out it would probably have taken us a while longer from Calais - very clear directions.
Our stay.. Was amazing. The place was immaculate when we arrived, with lovely touches of personalisation throughout. We picked a particularly hot week to go to the south of France but fortunately there were fans in every room. The buildings themselves are old stone built and so have thick walls insulating the heat but also trapping the cold indoors, and so no air conditioning was required. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could want/need to cook with! Moving to the rear we found a lovely private garden with BBQ, and past that.... A heated shared pool! The pool was the real plus here, with 35degree heat daily and the pool warmed to 29degrees, a quick dip ensured rapidly cooling.
Our neighbours were pleasant, and kept themselves to themselves, and we did not feel at any point that we were sharing the pool with them - it was so non-intrusive.
We loved our stay so much, we are planning to return in 2017. Costs are reasonable, conditions were excellent, what more could you want!
Thank you to Lisa and family for making our stay exactly what we wanted and we'll see you again soon.
I live locally and asked friends to recommend somewhere for visiting family to stay. I was looking for somewhere they could stay together but they werent here for long and not all for the same amount of time so I couldn’t find anywhere for them to stay together that yhey didn’t have to pay the full price for the whole time. I met Lisa & she offered us Maison Augros based on the number of people & nights they stayed, which I though was very kind and perfect for my family. The kitchens quite big so we could all meet up & eat in the garden because there’s enough space outside for 10.
I love this area because I live here, but cam on holiday lots of times before we moved over and there are loads of places to go and things to do, one of my neighbours is from Paris with a holiday home here, and Charente is famous as a holiday area.
Ian & Lisa were very accommodating, not minding my noisy nephews and there were other familys staying so the boys had other kids to play with which meant the adults could just relax and enjoy. I can certainly recommend you come and stay here, next time we have family members who want to visit, this will be the place.
This property was as described, lovely countryside location with pretty towns nearby. Perfect for a relaxing holiday with days out sightseeing.
Recommended to us we booked at very short notice. This wasn't a problem for the owners but good for us as we were put into a much larger gite (the only one left).
I'm recommending this place to everyone I know.
Really enjoyed our break at Mason Augros, it was great for getting together with my brother & his family who live in Madrid, practically half-way for both of us.
The kids loved the pool, even my nephew who's Spanish through & through but the pool water was warm enough for him. Some of the kids attractions weren't open because the French kids were at school, but we still found lots to do - a day trip to the beach was a long way (about an hour) but well worth it, the beach was huge & he kids had a great time playing and running around.
The house worked well for us, enjoyed the deck at the back, and we might even meet up here again in the future.
First time in france and what a perfect place to start, gite had everything we needed and the kids loved the pool and grounds to run around. Loads to do in the area, the boys loved the activities in Jonzac and the lake at montguyon is a really nice day out. Ian and lisa were perfect hosts and I would highly recommend staying here.
