One double bedroom, with room for a cot or child's bed (provided by us).
The kitchen has an electric oven & hob, dishwasher, fridge with freezer shelf, washing machine, microwave, etc.
The living area has a comfy sofa, UK satellite freeview TV, books & tourist info.
As this is our dedicated couples' gite, Le Chai has its private outside area at the front of the house rather than at the rear with the other units, and has a BBQ and table & chairs, as well as its own sunloungers.
We have lovingly restored our 200 year-old farmhouse making sure we keep much of its original character.
It’s ideal for groups of 2, 4/5 or 8 people, in one-bed, two-bed or four-bed gîtes, each of which is comfortable & well-equipped with its own private outdoor eating area.
Each gîte also has UK Freesat TV & a DVD player, and the kitchen has a separate oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and coffee maker.
Outside we have a shaded play area dedicated to younger visitors with swings, slide, and a trampoline & lots of toys and games to keep families entertained.
We pride ourselves that you’ll find everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as it can be and try to make sure you need to bring as little as possible with you – linen & towels are included, and any extras you might need for little ones are also available free of charge, just ask.
From here, you can easily reach Cognac, Saintes, Angoulême and La Rochelle to the north, go west to the glorious beaches of Royan and the Atlantic coast, or south to Bordeaux and St Emillion.

About Lisa Elsey
We are Ian & Lisa Elsey and we live here at Chez Augros in Vibrac in Charente Maritime with our two daughters, Katrina and Rebecca who go to school locally. We moved here in 2005, when the farmhouse was in need of near-total renovation and we've done most of the work ourselves, so were able to make things as comfortable and efficient as possible.
We love this unspoilt, rural area that we live in - the roads are quiet and even the towns are fairly relaxed most of the time. The coast can get fairly busy in the summer, but it's easy to visit for a day, then escape back to our rural paradise!
Lisa Elsey purchased this farmhouse in 2005
Why Lisa Elsey chose Charente-Maritime
We chose this area because it's close to so many things to see & do - Bordeaux and Saintes are both World Heritage sites, and we're also within easy reach of the gorgeous sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast but at the same time, we're located at the edge of a sleepy village - we didn't want to be in town, but didn't want to be cut off from civilisation, either! This is the second sunniest region of France, and being sun- and water-lovers it's just perfect for us. The weather is reflected in the large swathes of sunflowers and vines which surround us each summer, and which give us a tranquil landscape we're sure you'll love too.
What makes this farmhouse unique
We particularly love our glorious pool area - we keep the water nicely heated from early May to late September, and find that it's a delightful place to relax & unwind, even in Spring & Autumn. It's also the perfect place to cool off and take it easy after a hot day sightseeing, its views over the surrounding farmland make it a delightful place to chill out.
You'll also appreciate your dedicated outside space - we find ourselves spending most of our evenings outside in the summer and it's important to us to have somewhere pleasant and private to relax.
Reservations may be made by e-mail or phone, and we require a 10% deposit (min £50) to secure the booking. The balance is due 8 weeks before the start of the rental. Payment may be made by cheque or direct bank transfer, in Sterling or Euros.
£35 end-of-stay cleaning is not included in the price, however as many of our guests carry this out themselves, we are happy to take this by cheque, which is cashed only if cleaning services are required.
In July & August changeover day is Saturday, & on any day of the week in other months.
Holiday lettings are from 4pm on the date of arrival, and the property should be vacated by 10am on the date of departure.
Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds.

A wonderful property in peaceful surroundings
We had a great time over the Easter weekend staying at this gite. The property was very well-equipped and nicely furnished and we enjoyed using the BBQ in the courtyard garden. Our daughter enjoyed playing in the swings and the trampoline too. There are loads of lovely places to visit in the vicinity so we had some great days out. Finally, the owner Lisa and her family were really kind and full of helpful advice.
Excellent Gite & Friendly Hosts
This was our first visit to Lisa's Gites, the location was rural but not too far away from local amenities, so nice and quite.
The gite was nice and clean and well equipped, during our stay we viewed all of Lisa's gite which were all presented to the same high standard.
As the weather was so good during our stay we spent most of our time relaxing around the pool, which was heated making entry that must easier.
I do not know what more I can say other than we will be returning next year.
One of the nicest gites we have stayed in
We had a really lovely 2 week holiday, staying in Le Chai at Chez Augros. We've explored many different areas of France but this is one of the nicest gites we have ever stayed in. Hosts Lisa and Ian have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible and we wanted for nothing. The pool area was fabulous - with sun and shade available, and we also enjoyed sitting outside our Gite in our own private space. We visited the new wine museum at Bordeaux and made trips to Saintes, Cognac, Blaye, Talmont, Royen and into the Perigord district - we would highly recommend staying here.
After such a lovely holiday last year we returned and had a fantastic time, our son especially enjoys the swimming pool and had a lovely time playing with the other children who were staying there. We can't recommend staying here enough it is a lovely place to relax and unwind Ian and Lisa are so helpful and friendly and we are looking forward to returning. Paul, Elaine & Finn x
A relaxing environment to unwind and enjoy
Le Chai was the perfect place for us to spend two weeks to unwind and relax.
The property is well maintained, and has all of the creature comforts that you could need including; dishwasher, wi-fi, and English TV.
Lisa and Iain were very knowledgeable of the local area, and provided a plethora of leaflets, and personalised places to visit. We worked our way through quite a few, and hope to finish the rest during another visit.
We would both highly recommend Le Chai, Chez Augros as a whole and the local area if you are after a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of life in the UK! Although, we won't recommend to too many people as we want to secure a booking to come back again!

Fantastic! So relaxing and picturesque
We had a fantastic stay at Le Chai. Lisa & Ian were superb in helping arrange our arrival and where to go during our stay. The setup was also beautiful! We stayed in the 1bed gite and we were surprised by just how spacious it was. With there being both My wife and I along with our 16month old son, it is always a worry about space and being able to get time to relax, however the downstairs and grounds out the front allowed for plenty of playing and we never found ourselves feeling like we were on top of each other. With the swimming pool so close by as well, the amount of time spent in our gite was very limited as the pool was a massive draw for all of us. Our 16month old in particular!
With the space, swimming pool and having Lisa & Ian on hand to answer any questions we had and we would absolutely recommend to anyone to stay here if you are in the area.

Activity and Interests
We are 45 minutes by car from the sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast at Royan & 20 minutes from a lake with sandy beach. There are small coves and beaches, as well as harbours and caves that can be visited all along the coast of the Atlantic and the Gironde Estuary.
The nearest bakery is a few minutes from here, and the nearest supermarket is less than 10 minutes away.
The pretty town of Jonzac is 15 mins from us.
Cognac and Saintes (with its Roman amphitheatre) are 45 mins away as is the coast. La Rochelle is 90 mins away. Bordeaux is 50 mins away, & the vineyards of St Emilion and Brantôme in the Dordogne are less than 1.5 hours away. All times are by car.
The local market town of Jonzac, has a full range of shops, banks and supermarkets & swimming complex with a water slide, tropical lagoon, wavepool, bubble spas and saunas.
There is an excellent choice of restaurants within 15 minutes drive.
Between them, the local towns of Jonzac and Montendre hold fresh markets four days a week, and in summer there is a market somewhere near us, every day of the week - including Sundays.
In our local village is a heated open-air pool, with separate shallow bath for little 'uns. It is set in a small wooded area on the edge of the village, and enjoys glorious views of the surrounding countryside.
This area has an excellent sunshine record and has similar weather to the south east coast of France. Outside of the main June, July, August and September holiday periods it can be very pleasant, warm and surprisingly sunny. Because of this, many of the adult attractions are open at least from Easter to the end of October, if not all year round. There are so many things to see and do, it would be impossible to list them all, however if you have a particular interest in architecture, fishing, horse-riding, museums, food, cognac, or anything else, please let us know, and we can provide you with guidance and information to help you plan your holiday if you should wish. Alternatively, if you simply want to relax and breathe in the clean air of French countryside, then you can do so in great comfort.
