About Amar and Elena Djelil

Amar and I met way back in 1980 at university in Edinburgh. He went on to work in education and I went down the path of retail management. 15 years on we decided to work for ourselves and we left city life to build up a small hotel and restaurant in the Scottish Borders. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute (well, most of them anyway!) but 10 years, much renovation, 4 stars, several awards and 2 children later we knew we needed to move on. And so we set up home at Les Crouquets.9 years on we are also now the proud owners of La Tour de Genèbre, a stunning stone built holiday villa just 3kms from Les Crouquets. Exactly how we came to arrive in this wonderful corner of rural France after spending a whole year searching, is another story altogether! Suffice to say that for us living here is a breath of fresh air - we are truly at home and we're sure you will be too. We look forward to sharing it with you soon!

Amar and Elena Djelil purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Amar and Elena Djelil chose Jayac

The area is perfect for that "get away from it all" holiday yet still offers lots to do - more than can be done in a 2 week break. Here you can easily forget the stresses and strains of everyday life. There are several airports within a 2 hour drive and a new airport has now opened in Brive - just 20 minutes from here. With good motorway access, driving is easy too. In spite of the easy access to everything, Our properties are still very much "far from the madding crowd" and also offer a relaxing base to come home to.

What makes this cottage unique

Our heated pool, 9 hole pitch and putt course ,spacious 65 m2 games room and outdoor facilities with lots for all the family means that on days when you don't want to travel far everyone can still be kept occupied. Susie, the donkey, loves attention and is a great country attraction for all ages! A 24 hr laundry room with all the laundry products supplied free of charge makes the holiday washing easy! Free 24 hr wi-fi and internet access means you can still keep in touch with the outside world if you need to!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just a note to thank you for our stay at Les Crouquets. This is meant both from the comfort and style of the establishment and from your warm and convivial personalities.

We very much enjoyed our golfing exploits and the conversation we had together. Hope to see you again in the future!

Fantastic. Relaxation Relaxation Relaxation.

  • 5 of 5

A simply delightful place to stay. Beautiful peaceful location, lovely cottages and brilliant hosts in Amar and Elena. Nothing is too much trouble. A free laundry on site, 9 hole pitch and putt, heated pool, goats, donkeys, guinea fowl and chickens and a lovely play barn. Happy kids and happy parents.

My perfect holiday is peace and quiet, fantastic food and wine, a lovely pool, gorgeous countryside and lots to do near by. This place ticks all the boxes and more.

Cycling, canoeing down the Dordogne or Vezere, caves, castles, and the amazing night markets. Something for everybody. Absolute must is the white picnic. One of the most amazing nights out we've ever had.

If I say 4 of the families who where there the same time as us have all rebooked (and we have as well) then that tells you everything.

Wonderful gite complex, an idyllic holiday !

We have had 3 magical holidays at Les Croquets and couldn't recommend it more highly! A fab location for exploring the Dordogne valley - if you can tear the children away from the pool and their new friends! Elena and Amar are the perfect hosts.

A very relaxing stay in a beautiful part of France. Property was clean and comfortable and being close to so many attraction and things to do meant not too much time in the car. Great on site facilities such a pool, games room, pitch and put, Badmington. All is very good condition. Very kid friendly and they could go off and play. Elena and Amar are excellent hosts and very helpful. This was our second time staying and might well be back next year.

A truly great find!

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from two weeks at Les Crouquets and we had the most wonderful time. We stayed in Le Cerisier which was beautiful and perfectly equipped for our stay. We travelled with 3 young children, one being only 2 years old and there was everything we could have possibly needed on site to make our stay run smoothly. We flew into the new local airport in Brive, 25 minutes away and were let down by our hire car company only weeks before we travelled when they informed us that they couldn't provide us with a car seat for our two year old, so we were thrilled that Elena and Amar then managed to arrange one for us and Amar even met us at the airport with it when we arrived! Elena and Amar are extremely welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them, they truly do go the extra mile to make sure their guests have a fantastic holiday.

The local area is stunning and there is no shortage of things to do with the family but equally if you just fancy spending some days relaxing on site, there is so much to do to keep everyone entertained, they really have though of everything!

We spent a very long time searching for the perfect family friendly Gite before we came across Les Crouquets and we are confident that we made the very best choice. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and will definitely be returning one day. Elena and Amar have created something really very special there!

What a delightful, interesting, relaxing oasis!

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful, interesting, relaxing oasis! We were very comfortable at Les Crouquets for the duration of our two week stay in the heart of the Dordogne region. Amar and Elena were very welcoming. It is clear that Amar and Elena are active and valued members of their local community and it was great that they regularly informed us of local social events such as community festivals, bonfires and markets all with local produce available to enjoy, sometimes in the form of buffet supper. Our delightful stone-built farmhouse was immaculately clean and very well equipped. The wide range of activities available at Les Crouquets kept us occupied throughout our stay and the enormous well maintained pool is fantastic. The pool has shallow steps, a shallow end, a deep end, a separate paddling pool and plenty of loungers and parasols all of which we made daily use of during our sun-drenched stay. Our youngest, Eoin aged 7, particularly enjoyed the toy barn, the swings and slides, and feeding the animals each morning. The environment around Les Crouquets was very safe with good fences , particularly around the pool. Eoin occupied himself around Les Crouquets independently and safely for short periods each day. Our teenagers appreciated having their usual television channels and Wifi available. We all played golf, football, table-tennis, and petanque. Walking, running and cycling along the quiet local roads were all a relaxing pleasure. The Dordogne region was superb yet again. There are many attractions in the area and I would recommend a visit to Chateau de Fenelon with its room of curiosities, Chateau de Castelnaud with its siege/war machines, L'appel de la foret Zipline adventure park and Les Jardins de Marqueyssac at night. Overall our holiday was very enjoyable and Les Crouquets is a great place to stay, it is peaceful and there is plenty to do nearby, I don’t believe you will find better family accommodation anywhere in the Dordogne. Book it! You will not be disappointed.

It was a pleasure to meet you and your family ...the International petanque tournament was great fun for everyone - thanks for that!! We do hope to see you again if you are ever back this way - until then, Bon Continuation!!

Fab cottages, great service

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful setting and accommodation was very comfortable and tasteful. It was obvious a lot of pride had been taken in furnishing and decorating our cottage with lots of lovely touches - it felt like being at home the minute you walked in. Our cottage was spotless and everything you might want (and a lot more!) was on hand; the swimming pool, the pitch and putt course(which was superbly maintained and which we could play on as much as we liked), the animals to visit, superbly equipped laundry room and games barn. I could go on and on... really great value for money. You would expect to pay a lot more for what was on offer. What made it stand out for us was the exceptional friendly and personal customer service - we were given lots of inside information about the best places to go and what to do, with personal introductions to interesting locals and helping out with language translations (and phoning the airport for us to sort out a problem we had with our flights). All things we would never have found in a tourist brochure and we felt that we had a different and truly authentic holiday experience. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday here and that we were able to help make a a little bit more memorable for you! I know Stephane was delighted to meet you all and to be able to share his skills and knowledge about all of his geese! There is still a lot more to see & do here so we do hope to see you again if you are ever back in the area...and the pitch & putt course record remains unbeaten so the challenge awaits ;) Thank you all again , Elena and Amar
