Duplex Penthouse in the Centre of Berlin

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
Penthouse Apartment in Central Berlin, Germany - Overlooking Quiet Courtyard, 10 mins Walk from Museum Island, Alexanderplazt, Bustling Area

A 80msq 2 bedroom duplex penthouse overlooking a courtyard and located in the trendy area of Mitte. Upstairs, an open plan sunny sitting/dining area opens onto a south-facing terrace. There is one bedroom on this level with views of the TV tower and neighbouring garden, while downstairs there is another large studio-bedroom (with cable TV)and bathroom overlooking the hof (courtyard). A beamed ceiling and terracotta floors throughout, with contemporary furniture and a well-equipped, wooden fitted kitchen create a possibly Tyrolean-Spanish atmosphere. This is particularly so when the big glass sliding doors are open onto the balcony and one can breakfast al fresco. The apartment is very quiet, though the area is bustling with boutiques, bars, caf?s, restaurants and galleries. Alexander Platz, Prenzlauerberg and Museum Island are all within 10 minutes walking distance. The Goethe Institute and the Cervantes Institute are within 5 minutes. Perfect location for short term stays.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Piers' flat was a great base from which to explore Berlin on foot. It is in a very cool district with design shops and wine bars. The flat is up several flights of stairs so you need to be prepared for a daily hike. The reward is a lovely little balcony overlooking the internal courtyard. The upstairs bed is a slat bed which can be temperamental but was set right fairly easily each time. The shower was also not what we are used to as it was. basically a flexible head in a bath tub. I would still stay here again though as the flat itself, location and value were quite good. Also it was nice and quiet which is good, especially at night.

Perfectly good place in Berlin

  • 4 of 5

I stayed in Piers' wonderful apartment earlier this month. The space was certainly big enough for me and my daughter. All was in order--Piers goes out of his way to make sure that his guests feel at home, including maps and suggestions for local restaurants etc. The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is that there is no air conditioning. This issue is probably meaningless for much of the year, but this September was hot in Berlin, and that made the stay a bit uncomfortable. Not Piers fault of course, but AC would have made a huge difference. With regard to the location, we quickly got our bearings and discovered our preferred ways to get to Alexanderplatz, restaurants, etc. Very central. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Very well placed for exploring Berlin which was ideal for our purposes. Great for 2 couples. We left complimentary beer, chocolate, tea and toilet rolls for the next guests! I'd stay again.

Great Location and Quiet !

  • 4 of 5

We arrived to chocolate and wine which was unexpected and appreciated. The beds were all comfy and everything clean. The location is brilliant for central Berlin as its a few streets away from the main squares and underground. Near bars, resturants and cafes but not so close as to be disturbed. Up lots of stairs so dont take huge suitcases. All the other residents in the appartments seemed to be away or just very quiet. The American Diner is great and not too far away. Easy to get to Train station and supermarket really nearby. Piers communication was excellant so that helped too.

Bright and Breezy in Berlin

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is clean, comfortable and spacious. We were not disappointed - the listing providing an accurate description of the property. We loved the time we spent in the kitchen-diner - it is beautifully bright and breezy; it also has a balcony with a view to the Fernsehturm. The apartment in situated on a quiet street away from the hum of other tourists (which we quite like). The instructions and information provided by the owner were helpful. The only negative was the challenge of ascending the flights of stairs with a toddler, buggy and shopping - knackering! It does not put me off booking the apartment again though.

We had a great time navigating Berlin from here. The apartment is situated near the Alexanderplatz and Rosenthaler Strasse - both good for shopping. The Hackesche Markt is a useful station and only a 5 minute walk from the apartment. This is also where a good supermarket could be found (Kaisers).

Owner's Response: Many thanks, Alexandra, for your kind review and words. It is always good to hear when guests have enjoyed themselves and been comfortable in the flat. Sorry about the buggy! I should have told you that you can store buggies at the base of the stairs, underneath them, completely out of sight, and safely.

First time to Berlin - loved it. Apartment clean, spacious, quiet & safe, based in ideal location to explore and get a feel for the place.

The city filled me with sadness and beauty all at once and the Germans are calm, courteous and kind.

Special interest holidays:

Believe it or not, Berlin has several 'beaches' in summer time, one of which is just minutes away near Museum island.

Schonefeld Airport (Berlin). 40 mins away.

Potsdam is 40 mins away.

Further Details:

Mitte literally means 'middle' and the apartment is situated in the middle of a buzzing world of boutiques, art galleries, bars, cafes and restaurants. Hakenscher Hof is five minutes away, as is the Goethe Inst and the Cervantes centre. Museum Island, Alexanderplatz and the lovely Prinzlauerberg area are all within ten minutes walking. A short cycle ride will bring you down Unter den Linden to the Brandenberg Gate, the Reichstag and the Tiergarten. We recommend that guests hire bicycles from Famos, the nearby friendly bicycle store on Orienbegerstrasse. For Art lovers and collectors, the most important art galleries are located nearby on Auguststrasse. Most of the Berlin biennale and the annual Art forum activity takes place here.
