About the property

Penthouse Apartment in Central Berlin, Germany - Overlooking Quiet Courtyard, 10 mins Walk from Museum Island, Alexanderplazt, Bustling Area

A 80msq 2 bedroom duplex penthouse overlooking a courtyard and located in the trendy area of Mitte. Upstairs, an open plan sunny sitting/dining area opens onto a south-facing terrace. There is one bedroom on this level with views of the TV tower and neighbouring garden, while downstairs there is another large studio-bedroom (with cable TV)and bathroom overlooking the hof (courtyard). A beamed ceiling and terracotta floors throughout, with contemporary furniture and a well-equipped, wooden fitted kitchen create a possibly Tyrolean-Spanish atmosphere. This is particularly so when the big glass sliding doors are open onto the balcony and one can breakfast al fresco. The apartment is very quiet, though the area is bustling with boutiques, bars, caf?s, restaurants and galleries. Alexander Platz, Prenzlauerberg and Museum Island are all within 10 minutes walking distance. The Goethe Institute and the Cervantes Institute are within 5 minutes. Perfect location for short term stays for families of up to 5 members, one or two couples, and two or three single individuals. Please do not request a booking if your group is made up of five single individuals.

GREAT location, rather spare kitchen

  • 4 of 5

(Summary: GREAT location, rather spare kitchen, good choice for people who will be out most of the day/night and don’t plan on cooking much / at all.)

Flat was very tidy. If you missed the “amenities” section, please be aware that this is on the THIRD FLOOR - no elevator. However, on most days we had to climb the stairs once at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. The kitchen has a cook top but it does NOT have either a conventional oven or a microwave oven. It does have a toaster and electric tea kettle. The shower is located partially under a set of stairs so if you are tall (our son is almost 2m/6' 4") it could be an issue. We were initially flummoxed by the combo washer/dryer. These units are not very common in our neck of the woods and we quickly found out that the drying portion simply means it wrings out most of the water. The apartment had some clothes drying racks and we used them to help air dry the clothes. Just be aware if you are staying here long-term do your laundry daily and air-dry everything. All that being said, the location is GREAT. You are 5 minutes from the nearest underground station and 10 minutes from Alexanderplatz underground where you can connect to just about any undergound or tram line in the city. You are ten minutes’ walk from Museum Island and there are many markets, shops and open air stands (weekends) to provide you with anything you might want. We found a great sushi place just west of the apartment and the food was great. The views are lovely from up there and it’s very quiet at night. This place can accommodate up to 5 people depending upon sleeping arrangements. Great for younger people/couples looking for a nice place at a great price (who are not challenged by steps). There is one queen sized bed, one single day bed and L-shaped couch/sleeper that one adult or two small kids could use. Also, just to be clear, this apartment is on TWO levels. The first (lower) level is where you enter the apartment. On this level you will find a large room with a single day bed and large couch as well as the bathroom/shower. You will need to go up one final flight of steps to the main level. The main level has another bedroom (queen bed) and an open area for the kitchen/dining area for the kitchen/dining area and living area. There is also a small balcony which would be pleasant in warmer weather (March was a bit too early). As long as you don’t mind the steps this is a great place to stay in Berlin.

Excellent apartment in fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay - comfortable, well equipped, warm, very quiet yet with bars, shops restaurants and public transport all within minutes.

Easy and relaxed arrival and departure, lots of information about local services, everything from how and where to recycle to the best places to eat, visit and enjoy.

Flat is on two levels, we had plenty of space for three. Weather was not great but heating was simple to use and very effective so we always had a warm and cosy home to return to. Beds were really comfy. Good shower. Kitchen has everything you need, nice place to cook and eat.

Location is excellent - 8 minute walk to major transport centre (for airport or out of town travel) plus local stations within few minutes for whizzing off round city. Supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, bakeries and all manner of boutique shopping on doorstep.

We were amazed by how quiet the flat was at night - barely heard a sound. Place is stylish yet functional - was scrupulously clean when we arrived and was easy to sweep floors/wipe surfaces to keep in shape. Wifi worked perfectly.

Owner very friendly and helpful, responded swiftly and fully to any questions, communicated well before during and after our stay.

Pretty much the perfect base to explore Berlin!

OK

  • 2 of 5

Booked for 5 persons , bedding for only 4 persons no pillow no sheet only a blanket for the 5the person ,you had to hold down the toaster so it would toast, I think you should mention there in no lift, people with walking sticks then have a choice weather they can manage walking up 3 flights of stairs. The young girl that let us in opened the door and then took off didn't get to ask any questions about the keys Rang the owner and texted never got a reply, the shower is only good if you are a child otherwise you have to hold it,the cleaner needs to do a better job.

Owner's Response: As stated in the property description, this apartment is only suitable for 4 people, or a family with a very young 5th member (there is an emergency fold up camp bed, and a travel cot). I do not accept five adults. Also stated is the fact that there is no lift. There are three flights of stairs (48 in all). Guests with a pram can leave it underneath the bottom of the stairs. The apartment also has a staircase. It is on the top two floors of the building. One bedroom is on the top floor (double bed), and the other studio bedroom (double bed and single bed) is on the other floor. So if two couples come to stay, they are totally independent of each other. Likewise, parents and children can enjoy their own spaces. There is a television upstairs and downstairs, and of course wifi throughout. There are two toasters. This morning, I checked both and they work perfectly well. Many guests said a standing shower would be a good idea, so last week I put in a standing shower, and also a new bathroom cabinet. Regarding the cleaner not being helpful or efficient, I have spoken to my caretaker about this, and we have introduced a cleaning check list for both the cleaner, and for guests to leave their comments. I am always available on my mobile, as is my caretaker. All guests receive a Berlin Tips list, and essential instructions about keys, internet and general things in the apartment. The caretaker's and my telephone number are on this list of helpful instructions.

50+ stairs is a real workout

  • 4 of 5

Piers apartment is very central and walking distance to most sights. We enjoyed our stay and the amenities worked fine.

The stairs are very confronting with heavy suitcases and they literally took the breath from me.

I emailed piers to request a taxi be ordered for early morning to take us to the main train station. (We don't speak German) There are 4 of us all with large suitcases, and required a larger taxi to accommodate us. He emailed back the phone number of taxi company and said as he was away, to do it ourselves. I was a little disappointed with response - we ended up walking to taxi rank with heavy bags in tow and waited until a larger taxi was able to take us.

However the apartment is large, beds are warm it is close to central Berlin

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Piers' flat was a great base from which to explore Berlin on foot. It is in a very cool district with design shops and wine bars. The flat is up several flights of stairs so you need to be prepared for a daily hike. The reward is a lovely little balcony overlooking the internal courtyard. The upstairs bed is a slat bed which can be temperamental but was set right fairly easily each time. The shower was also not what we are used to as it was. basically a flexible head in a bath tub. I would still stay here again though as the flat itself, location and value were quite good. Also it was nice and quiet which is good, especially at night.

Perfectly good place in Berlin

  • 4 of 5

I stayed in Piers' wonderful apartment earlier this month. The space was certainly big enough for me and my daughter. All was in order--Piers goes out of his way to make sure that his guests feel at home, including maps and suggestions for local restaurants etc. The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is that there is no air conditioning. This issue is probably meaningless for much of the year, but this September was hot in Berlin, and that made the stay a bit uncomfortable. Not Piers fault of course, but AC would have made a huge difference. With regard to the location, we quickly got our bearings and discovered our preferred ways to get to Alexanderplatz, restaurants, etc. Very central. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
